Surprise trip to DW

First post!

Our girls (2 long time bff's . Both 12) think we're going to Disney Land (Ca. natives) at the end of Sept., but Surprise! We're going to Disney World instead! :D Any creative ideas for springing it on them?

Ideally I'd like to let them in on it the night before, while both whole families are together for a couple of reasons. Reason 1 being that my daughter has a lot of anxiety around air travel and will need to prepare for an 8 hour trip instead of a 1. Reason 2 is the dads are sitting this one out and I'd like for them to be able to see the girls' reactions.

I thought about taking them to dinner the night before and having the waiter bring out some kind of special treat at the end of the meal, but I'm not sure what would make a good clue that the 2 girls could decipher. I'm up for any and all suggestions.

Thanks in advance:happy:

Oh how I LOOOOOOOVE a surprise. OK, maybe I think cake for too many things, but I think it could be fun to have a waiter bring out a cake or cupcakes that says something like "have fun at Disney," but have the state of FL piped on. Then again, due to the shape of the state and piping abilities of most bakeries- that could be dangerous. As an alternative, you could probably take a pic of the state of FL (glue it onto some cardboard if you want it to pop more) and stick it on the cake. OK...maybe to obvious? Or maybe just right.

Welcome to WDW Magic!!!

Thanks for the suggestions! One can never have too much cake! Just call me Marie Antoinette!

I wonder if i could do a combination of Disney cupcakes and butterbeer. (I have a wicked recipe that's pretty spot on to the one in at WWOHP) Besides loving Disney, they're huge HP fans. You think they'd catch that clue?

Butterbeer would make a great stealth clue. i.e. a Disney-ish cupcake paired with Butterbeer sounds great. i.e. they'll be thinking Disney but the beer should say FL.

What a fun surprise! Maybe drop a a couple hints and see if they catch on. Of be more obvious and as you are all talking about the trip say, Won't it be fun to have our picture taken in front of Cinderella's castle and when they correct you about the castle you could drop the surprise then.

I like that idea too, though I'm not sure they'd clue in to something that subtle. We might have to go a bit more obvious.

Thanks guys for the great suggestions!

We need time for things to happen.
I got a way that will solve your surprise problem and your daughters anxiety problem and incorporates you dessert idea.

Dessert is laced with sleeping pills. Girls go to sleep. Wake up in WDW. Film wake up send to dads.

Just kidding. I think you got a couple of good suggestions. As you can see I'm not good with surprises.

Welcome!

Welcome!

Bwahahahaha! If I could manage to get her through the airport, that wouldn't be such a bad idea! She actually has an Rx for valium just in case. She's never had to take it, but it's reassuring to know if things get really bad, relief is in sight.

My friend came up with a travel brochure idea that might work. Basically make a brochure that highlights all the fun things to do at the parks. My little princess has been to DW before, so she might catch on.

Way to let the newcomer know that we aren't a creepy bunch on these boards. LOL. :)

How about the waiter reads a poem or something before he brings the dessert.

I am no good at writing these things, but you could put in a line about visiting Cinderella instead of Snow White, a Hollywood Studio far from California, a land with 11 countries and a live action Jungle Cruise.

Love surprises!! Have fun surprising them! I have seen cute things on youtube but I don't really have any suggestions off the top of my head. It would be fun to wait until you get to the airport but I like your idea too! :)

Thank you all for the great ideas and warm welcome! So, I think I've got my surprise plan all laid out.

  1. Dinner with both families
  2. Desert of Micky shaped rice krispie treats and butter beer.
  3. A "travel brochure" that says "Enjoy Your Trip to the World" and contains personalized maps of The World as well as maps of Universal.
Gah! Sept. 20th can't come soon enough!
