Surprise, surprise! The Nutcracker movie stinks.

Name calling will only get you reported.

You are already on the internet, the next step is easy. rottentomatoes.com

Start with the over 50!! Fresh reviews.

You've already shown a wanton disregard for the facts as they were already reported. I'm not saying you're lying to insult you or make you feel bad, you've already shown an inability to feel shame. I'm saying it so that everyone else knows how to contextualize your posts.

So how many reviews have you gotten through?

I went through 4 pages and found one review that says it may be something you chance upon on christmas day. But in reality, you should be backing up your own claims anyway, not telling others to go find it.

I updated my post. It was most of the critics I had read so not most in total. Although I still strongly believe you will see it annually on Disney's new streaming service. At the very least.

Over 50 fresh reviews guarantees that.

122 million and counting globally despite the unfair treatment. That is a lot of money. And again, that is without digital sales.

Disney gets less than half of that. They spent $126 million on production and at least $60 million in marketing. A net loss of about $120 million in the theatrical window.

The average user rating on IMDB and RT is 56 out of 100. The average user rating for all of Disney Studio films since 2000 is 65.

It's a bomb.

Not saying you are wrong but where do you get 60 million for marketing?

It's an industry standard that a production company spends about half as much of their production cost on marketing. Given all the prime time commercials on TV for N&t4R, Disney may have spent a lot more.

Oh. I just know that I saw significantly less promotion of this than I do Marvel or Star Wars stuff.

We will probably never know the actual numbers.

It's a rough estimate. E.g., Disney can sometimes wrangle a higher percentage of Box Office sharing, but, internationally, they and other studios regularly get much less than 50% of the Box Office. So, you can give or take about 10% on the numbers. So, Nutcracker's in the hole about $80 - $160 million.

I'll go with 80. I'm guessing 50 for digital streaming because Christmas. 20 for disc. 10 from cable next year. All profit after that.

And I am being partly serious.

PS- 100 posts to go to 20K. Yes I'm counting.

Well then can you link those reviews? You mention 50 fresh reviews, but you leave out that double that number did not like it. Even in the fresh reviews, I could barely find one that stated it will be an annual tradition, let alone most of the reviews.

As for profitability, this may help. I honestly don't know how accurate it is, but it does seem to line up with what @MisterPenguin was saying.

How much movies make

Maybe the most important things are that half the movies analyzed lost money, and these two figures:

I am not saying the penguin is wrong, just that we will never know the real numbers. So we are left with opinions.

I read several fresh reviews and skimmed many more when the meme started that this was a bomb. I translated that to mean it was good enough to be an annual favorite for many, though not necessarily most. This will be true for young girls who like the movie and identify with the central character. I stand by that prediction even if I may have overstated the numbers who clearly spelled that out. It is certainly implied in many fresh reviews.

Now that I know the puritan penguins are hanging on my every syllable, I will be oh so careful with my wording. IMO.

I love the challenge.

Nobody is hanging on your every sylable, you issued multiple challenges to go read the reviews. You have changed the goalposts. You went from most reviews, to most you read, to you are implying in what you read out of your handpicked reviews.

I had no idea if Penguin was right or wrong, I just simply started looking into numbers. And if you are to believe that site I posted, total costs would be much higher. Seems like a closer guess would be it needs $300 mil to break even.

I just find that number extremely hard to believe. Disney knew what they had and studios can adjust marketing budgets accordingly.

Like I said we will never know the numbers sadly. It is not the catastrophe some were portraying it as being.

That's the very literal example of "I reject your reality and substitute my own."

The numbers we've been presenting are based on what those in the industry say is standard operating procedures. You're only rebuttal of those numbers is a wish not to believe them.

Remember when our insiders were saying that SWL was going to be built in DHS by 2019 and we had an infamous and now-banned poster who refused to believe it base on nothing more than his disdain for Disney, and another Spirited poster who refused to believe it would be built before 2021 because of his anger at Disney and his belief that WDW couldn't build anything on a timeline that didn't slip a few years?

They were wrong. Because they based their information on personal feelings, not on facts or evidence or reliable insiders.

I'm not a hater of Disney. I'll tell you all the movies Disney Studios made that were liked by critics and audiences and made a profit. I'll also tell the ones that weren't well received and created a huge net loss in the theatrical window. All based on evidence, not feelings.

According to the article I linked, about half of every movie with a budget over $100 mil in his study of 29 movies lost money. You can have a hard time beliving it all you want, but it happens.

That's someone who is responding based on emotion and not facts. It works both ways. ;)
