Hi folks, Just wondering if anyone could tell me if they have stayed at the Sun Regal in the Downtown Disney area? We are thinking of booking a room there in 2012, coming from the Uk with 2 children aged 15 months and 10 years old.
1. Can you really see the fireworks from certain rooms?
2. Can you have purchases sent to your room from the parks?
3. Is there complimentary transportation to the parks?
4. What is it like for children staying there?

Any advice and info would be greatly recieved.
Claire

Sun Regal

Yeah, they said they were changing the name of the hotel.
What do you mean added fees?
Are you coming from the UK ? As we would do a whole package deal this end.

Resort fee and Parking

Parking fee/resort fee thats usually not added to your basic bill.
They'll ask for that when U check in. Could add $100 + to your
bill----not good especially when you're not expecting it.
But yes,Like I was saying,we're considering staying here too.
But we're going in Mid April 11. Coming from SC(Usa)

hope this helps

It's actually the Regal Sun Resort.

We stayed there earlier this year looking for a cheap hotel. I personally wouldn't necessarily recommend it. They have one large building and several smaller out buildings. We stayed at one of the smaller out buildings – maybe if we had stayed in the main tower our opinion would be different. The smaller buildings all have outside corridors which are just plain nasty (paint pealing, etc.) and I would definitely make sure you're staying at the large/main building if you have to stay there. The restaurants are pretty much non-existant. The only good thing I would say about it is that it has a large heated pool (and you can tell this by how many pics there are of the pool on their website). The hotel is old but they have done a bit of a sprucing up. The photos on the web site are a million times nicer than the hotel and rooms actually are.

On the other hand, right next door is the Buena Vista Palace. The price is usually comparable (maybe $20 more per night) but it's light years away as far as quality. It's also an older hotel but their renovations are much more extensive. You'd never know it was an older hotel unless someone told you. We stay at the Swan and Dolphin regularly and the rooms are actually much nicer at the BVP. They also have a couple nice restaurants, provide a shuttle to the parks and have some shops on the bottom floor. We've actually watched the fireworks from our room in the main tower from both Epcot and MK. It's also across the street from Downtown Disney.

If you're on a budget, Buena Vista Palace is the way to go. I highly, highly recommend it over the Regal Sun.

isn't it the Wyndham now?

Was considering staying there myself, but they eat you up in added fees.
Still considering the Royal Plaza though, myself.

Yes it is now called Wyndham LBV. It has had other name like Grosvenor and maybe 1 other.

And yes they add resort fees to your bill. only 2 plus marks I know of are it is next door to DTD and they have the Disney character meal option.

Think you would be better with the other hotels on hotel plaza or over on Palm parkway

When we go to Disney, we like staying at the Best Western Lake Buena Vista. It is almost next door to the Regal Sun.

The BW.LBV has really nice rooms, has a small arcade down stairs, has an amazing breakfast buffet, has an in house Pizza Hut, nice pool, and FREE bus transportation to the Disney Parks and Downtown Disney!

We're staying at the Wyndham in April. The location is great since it is right across from Downtown Disney so we can walk there. We used to stay at the Holiday Inn (it used to be Howard Johnson and or Courtyard by Marriot). But that's expensive now. The Wyndhan is offering a 30% off deal right now with a Character Breakfast included. Also, when you are booking, they do mention there are added fees. So, it shouldn't be a surprise to you when you get your final bill. What do you expect??? It's a non-Disney hotel. They have to pay to be on Disney property somehow.

DW and I booked one night here for our last night in Florida. Entire deal was booked online and we received a CONFIRMATION number. Upon arrival, we were told that even though we received a confirmation number, our room was not paid for. All told, I had to lay out $125 in cash to get the room.

We have stayed at the Regal Sun in a suite a few years ago and loved it. Beware of the Wyndham.
