Nibs - did you read the comments in the photo contest about the pics taken during the ride?
What can you do about it?

Nibbs: What happens if people use flash on a ride like Pirates that they're not supposed to? Do their pictures get pulled from the contest?

I just went to the photo contest page and noticed this. And yeah, I guess technically I do have to let them know their photo doesn't count. (Luckily I think there are only 2 that are in violation...not too many)

4 by my count... but I could be wrong.

I would hate telling people that... poor Nibbs. Good luck!

Well is there anyway to get that quality of picture and not use a flash? I'm not a professional, but aren't there special settings, longer exposures and the like that would bring about the same quality?
Accusing somebody of cheating can have long term effects....

I would assume that since it's a continually moving ride though, that a long exposure would blur the image...

Yes, there is a way to get the shot without using a flash. You have to use a longer exposure, higher F-stop, that kind of thing to achieve the effect. And I can see the difference in when a flash is being used and when it's not, for the most part. I have to not use flash all the time for weddings where churches don't allow for flash photography.

I've gotten LoriMistress and JCorduroy. I'll look at the other two.

I have no idea.

The person who brought it up is a profession photographer (for many years) and is widely published in newspapers and magazines and I respect his work. He has helped many people here (including me) improve their technique, so I guess he would know if that was possible or not.

Not always. Depends on how fast the ride is actually moving and also depends on how fast of a shutter speed you use. I've been able to have a high shutter speed on occasions where even if I moved, the object is usually not blurry. It has a different color to it, (a yellower color) but it's not blurry.

Guess that answers that question.

I may not be as talented as PhotoDave...but I do know a little bit. :D And he's right...there are a few that used flash. I do need to look at the other two though.

I guess thats what the movement setting on my camera does. I've taken photos from moving rides and cars, kids running, and parades and not have them been blurry.

I still stink at nighttime and firework shots though.
