Summer Magic with All Our Friends

Thanks. It was an interesting day at Walmart yesterday, I ran into a mom I met this summer when Joel was at his social skills group; I've mentioned her here she has a little girl with autism. She is enrolling her at an academy that is specifically for autism up in Canton. She'll be in their preschool; I asked her about tuition. I guess the preschool is $17,500, and Kindergarten on up is $35,000. :brick: :brick: She's only sending her daughter there because Ohio has an autism scholarship program that will cover the preschool. She told me however that is about half of what it would cost at a school in Cleveland. Oy.

My friend Judy has 4 grandsons, the youngest of whom is autistic.
Last summer she brought them all to the pool, and I remember that John (who is 4) was very into himself, playing quietly in one spot and not responding or even seeming to hear if someone spoke to him.
She brought them to the pool again Friday. John is an entirely different little boy! He laughed and smiled often, played with his brothers and ventured around the pool on his own, even talking to people! What a change!

Indeed.
A little Boris Karloff-ish, but still great!
Walt Disney's Frozen Head-ish sounds better.

Yeah, I have to be careful not to spend it all in one place.
I could have probably gotten at least another quarter, but what's the point? I just want to go. And I'm going!
Bah! I wouldn't stop until at least two dollars.

A year can make such a difference - every small step forward is a miracle! :) Joel will have another week of social skills class before school begins. I'm excited and nervous for him. Having him gone all day will take some getting used to.

I know that John had a lot of therapy and special attention this past year. And I'm not sure of all the details, but he was due to enroll in a special program within the school system next month but his doctor suggested a different, much more expensive program, for him instead. The doctor felt he'd get lost in the mix in the school system. The family is trying to work out the financial end of things so John can get what he needs. It's a shame it has to be sooo hard!

Quick hello.

We've booked a hotel near the airport (Detroit) for tomorrow night, to avoid having to deal with Customs in the morning, and to wake up... eh, who am I kidding, an hour later at most.

In other words, I may not be on here until the 14th, and I'll be loaded with pics from St. Pete!

(Quick goodbye, as well. )
