Substitutions on Dining Plan

I'm crossing my fingers for fall free dining and have a question about substitutions. It says you can sub your dessert on the quick service plan for a snack credit. So, if I don't want a dessert at lunch, they just add a snack credit to my plan to be used at any time? So say I didn't want dessert at both lunch and dinner, the next morning could I use those 2 extra snack credits in the food court for say, french toast sticks and a side of sausage? And you can sub your dessert in the same transaction at any time right? Like sub a dessert for a cup of soup?

We've only done the dining plan once before and it was back in 2009 and I know its changed a little since then. And of course I realize free dining may not be offered and this post will not even be necessary :)

No you have to use the snack credit you exchanged your desert for right then and there at the QS meal location. And you can't substitute your TS desert for a snack either. :)

Bummer! So when it says you can sub your dessert for a snack credit what does that mean? Like what are some examples?

Anything marked as a snack at that QS and they all vary in what they have. Could be fries (if you want an extra order from what your entree may come with), chips, fruit, salad, a bottled drink/water (an extra one from what you get with meal) , soup, and many other items. Look on the QS restaurants in MDE or on here to see what they have as snacks or side items and drinks that can be used as snacks etc. ;)

At some table service restaurants I've been able to swap out my dessert for a side salad or soup, depends on the location I believe... but as said by @sxeensweet it has to be done right then and there :) I wish we were able to save snacks for later, that would call for the best epcot day ever! lol

Haha! Sure would! ;). Yes table service will sometimes allow that option forgot to mention that but just not for a snack.

One of the best values for a dessert swap would be the pulled pork fries at Flame Tree BBQ, they are $6.49, but still a snack credit. If you get the $19.99 platter with the topped fries as "dessert" then you could split the meal :)

Great idea! :p

I've often swapped my "dessert" credit for a bowl of fruit where available and tossed it into my bag. It's a great snack for later, or if you can get it into the fridge that + a pastry with the next day's snack credit = breakfast :)

Great idea!

Another great tip I came across in an email newsletter today:

Amy from Baltimore writes: My family of four (kids are 18 and 15) just returned from Disney World. We stayed at Pop Century and had the quick-service dining plan. The best value we found in using our quick-service dining credits was for a whole pizza at the hotel food court. A whole pizza was only two quick-service dining credits and it came with two desserts and two drinks. Since we had our refillable mugs, we traded the drinks for two more desserts. Desserts included hand-dipped ice cream sundaes, milkshakes or ice cream cookie sandwiches, all of which were huge and delicious. We were each able to have two large slices of pizza and a dessert of our choice for only two credits. Also, we all prefer to drink water rather than soda, so we found that when using quick-service credits in the park, we could request a free cup of ice water and trade a drink credit for an extra dessert that we saved for a snack later in the day. Extra chocolate cake from Cosmic Ray's is always a treat!

Just a reminder If they are talking about the resort refillable mugs You can't do that at the parks BUT as they talked about yes you can do that at the resort QS location of course as that's what they are used for. If we eat at our resorts QS location or any resort QS location (you can use them at any resort even if not your own) we visit we bring our refillable mugs and grab extra waters or other drinks we want that come with the meal to have for later. :)

That's actually a great tip! I've always grabbed a bottled water or juice for later but I had no clue you could swap for an extra dessert! That's a great deal.

Ok well I guess that's not bad. I just don't think we will all need desserts at every meal. I'm happy they give you other options now. Thanks :)[/QUOT

not to be a know it all, but don't want anyone going thinking that they can get the pizza meal for two quick service credits. It is two table service credits, so in my opinion not a very good deal, there are way better uses for table service credits. I looked this information up on allears.net and I also called Disney world dining to confirm as I thought I had been missing out on a great deal.

If you have one delivered to YOUR ROOM it's 2 table service credits BUT if bought at QS location you can get it with 2 QS meal credits for the large pizza at the QS restaurant. I have heard that from several people before today. But pizza service delivered to the room is definately 2 TS credits. :)

The Disney cast member on the phone said it was two table service either way.

Odd because I have heard more than one person talk about using 2 QS credits over the years at the QS locations at their resort, but only at the QS location and of course not delivering it to the room. It might depend on the cast members because some might just allow the 2 QS credits at their discretion, and also frankly the CM's on the phone have been known to be wrong many many many times! I have dealt with that myself before. Who knows! Lol
