I think it was PC as well. Anything to do with the word "Dixie" seems to stem feelings of the old South,Rebels, Conderate flags, slavery, etc.

I think Disney felt pressure to change the name by some groups...

Dixie Landings opened in 1992 and was re-named in 2001, so, about 9 years give or take a few months. At that time, a few other areas were re-named. The Colonel's Cotton Mill became the Riverside Mill, and the Cotton Co-Op became the River Roost. It's also when Bonfamille's at French Quarter closed.
