Studios search lights missing?

Ugh, those are such a great part of DHS's nighttime atmosphere. :brick: Even the early concept art dictates those should be there.

But then, I guess Disney has proven that they don't care about DHS's nighttime offerings for a while now...

If the searchlights have been removed due to more budget cuts then I have very little hope for the Walt Disney company in the future.

Where will the cuts end?

(what follows is the future Flamingo Crossings with welcoming CM to greet you!)

They weren't on in late September/early October.

I was there also didnt see any. I remember when pleasure island and the studios had them. It was amazing to see all these lights in the sky. Made disney look busy and kinda like a party at night... Interesting Disney used to be awake at night :)

The fact that they have been gone for a year and no one noticed is a little funny. Let's not make a big bruh ha about this then since they have not been missed earlier

Search lights may have been ordered down by the DNR or something. A casino in my area was ordered to stop using them because it interfered with bird migration-no joking here.

Was there this past week (June 30-July 4) and didn't notice them. I really do hope they return; they add so much to the atmosphere.

I'm pretty sure I noticed them on (or at least a few of them) two weeks ago, but can't think of any other time I've seen them on lately.

Somewhat related, I noticed they had pulled the spot lights from CityWalk (bottom of the "stairs" on the water) about a month and a half ago and I haven't noticed them back.

I saw some search lights from CSR in the directions of DHS this past March. Here is a long-exposure I had taken from the bridge that leads to the Cabanas from the El Centro area. Sorry it is blurry, I moved the camera during it :(

The searchlights are very much still up there. They haven't been on in many months.

There were a few fanned out, and then two moving search lights that circled the fanned ones in the sky. In addition, there were two fanned out in a "V" on the top of the Animation Courtyard Arch/Entryway. The latter two came back for a VERY short amount of time a couple months ago, then went away again.

Apparently there are some safety/accessibility issues getting to these units...non-related to an incident or accident. And they were ordered shut off because half of them stopped working...with no way to get to them to maintain them. I believe it had to do with untethered cast members working within 6 feet of a rooftop.

They could install safety equipment and wires to make this safely accessible to get to these "sky trackers". Because of the length that they've been out of show already, one of two things has happened...

(*) They are stuck in a very long structural engineering battle to get these safety wires installed. Sometimes this process takes MANY months...and gets put on the back burner to more "pertinent" issues.

(*) They figured the cost to implement safety features, and lack of guest complaints have deemed this unnecessary...and they've dropped this issue way down the list, or off the table altogether. Seems to be the common way that Maintenance and Engineering does business these days.

Everyone else is neck deep in conspracies so I will get on the ball too. I bet the lights are gone because they are being refurb'ed and they will make a grand return with the hideous hat disappears. It only makes sense right. :lookaroun

That just made about as much sense as props from something defunct showing up in a back lot as a sign that it is returning. :ROFLOL:

Forget the lights... Billy Ray Cyrus is dead center in that pic... Or maybe it's Razor Ramone

Thanks. Was hoping you would see this thread. I'm hoping it is the first scenario, but fearing it is the second. Perhaps there is hope of a return when the hat is finally removed, and the Chinese Theater is looked at again as the focal point of Hollywood Blvd.
