Studios Backlot Tour Refurb

I've been MIA on the WDW news scene for the past few days because of the holidays, but while I was trying to catch up, I caught this on the homepage:

"Beyond the press releases from today, there are a number of interesting attraction refurbishments already announced for 2010. Splash Mountain at the Magic Kingdom is rumored to receive lap bars for each log during it’s 1/3-2/27/10 refurbishment, Epcot’s Test Track is closed 1/11-1/17/10 and Living with the Land is closed 1/18-2/5/10 (both for unknown reasons), and the latest surprise has been the announcement that both the Studio Backlot Tour and the Studio Catering Co. at Disney’s Hollywood Studios will be closed for refurbishment from 2/15-3/28/10. Stay tuned for more details on all of these refurbishments as they become available."

Haven't seen this mentioned on here, so figured I'd post.

We all know the backlot tour is in rapid decline, and its days are continually rumored to be numbered.

Will we see anything new? Could this be a prefurb to something else? :)sohappy:)

I guess we'll have to wait and see

There is no such thing as a prefurb. Only cheap refurbs.

I heard the playset, catering co., and backlot tour are suppose to be all closed at the same time. Is this the continuation of Pixar Place?

I've also heard the playset was to be transformed into A Bug's Life theming, but I've yet to hear a time frame.

If it gets announced that the playset is also going down around the same time, I'd say backlot tour could very well become a part of pixar place. (Cars? :lookaroun)

For now this could be the beginning of the end

...or then again it could be nothing

I can only hope the pre show is changing. Pretty sure it wont. But I can hope. :D

As for Living with the Land. That refurb is complete work that was supposed to be finished in its previous rehab. New boats and such.

There`s several short to medium term items in the works for the backlot tour. The long term only signals one thing though.

What can they do for 6 weeks? My first thought is just repainting stuff and maybe new props to showcase...

Personally, I am more interested for the Splash Mt. and LwtL refurb because of the rumored 'additions'.

The Backlot Tour and Studio Catering Company refurbs have been added to the rumors thread.

This is pretty interesting news, a refurb to the Backlot Tour seems odd right now unless it's to do some site prep for another attraction.

Edit: What were the press releases they were speaking of?

Personally I'd wish they'd consider investing in Special Effects showcases and maybe a post and editing room, all new pre shows instead of the water tank. the rest is still pretty interesting. In any case, don't give up on Backlot Tour. Invest in it. 3/4ths of it still goes through busy working areas anyways.

What? Is it getting something thematic? I thought it was only getting the bars.

I'm hoping this occurs. All I can say is the end is near.

Please don't build Carsland in DHS. Spend the money on another big E-ticket on another movie. Maybe the Incredibles or something.

Oooh! The island from the Incredibles!!! It could have a nice way of entering the land using the Peoplemover type thingy from the movie. I love that.

This has been talked about for as long as I have been a member on these boards I believe, yet it still hasn't happened. Surely it can't be that extensive of a change that it is yet to happen?

Just shut the thing down!

There is nothing "backlot" about it. The only reason to ride it is for Walt's plane.

The props in the vehicle section-most are insignificant and from movies half the guests have never seen.

Disney has 2 options. Improve or remove.

The catering company and the backlot tour are just screaming to be part of Pixar Place. It's a huge area!
