I think the actual plot revolves around Brer Rabbit trying to escape in the log with you. I don't think he is thrown in to the Briar Patch, I think he escapes in to it with you. But I could be wrong.

reverse psychology

Brier rabbit is using reverse psychology. Oh no please don’t throw me in the brier patch (he says that at the top like in the movie/book). Sure enough brier bear does. All along brier rabbits home is the brier patch. Hee hee, hee. HEE, HEE, HEE the laughing place HA HA HA. Throughout the ride the bear gets caught in trouble because he is stupid and the fox yells at him for being stupid.

The racism is put in when you put the bear in as a stereotypical slave and the fox is slave owner, otherwise you don’t see the racism unless you watch the movie.

But even the racism is in a historical context (as in it's not propogated).

BTW, the bear cannot be considered a slave since Brier Fox speaks with an afro accent.

It has been a long time since seeing the movie but Bear is definitely the stereotyped african american slave. Bear is suppost to do the work and gets yelled at when he is too stupid to get it done right.

They both could be african american.

BTW, folks, it's Br'er or Brer Fox,( Rabbit, and Bear), short for Brother. ;) I'm assuming that you're thrown into the briar patch along with Br'er Rabbit. Br'er Rabbit was born and raised in a briar patch, so he knows how to get around in one without being hurt or trapped.

I thought brer was was bobonics for brier.

I am not trying to offend anyone, but I thought brer was was bobonics for brier.

Co'se Brer Fox wnater hurt Brer Rabbit bad ez he kin, so he cotch 'im by de behime legs en slung 'im right in de middle er de brierpatch. dar wuz a considerbul flutter whar Brer Rabbit struck de bushes, en Brer Fox sorter hang 'roun' fer ter see w'at wuz gwinter happen. Bimeby he hear somebody call im, en way up de hill he see Brer Rabbit settin' crosslegged on a chinkapin log koamin' de pitch outen his har wid a chip. Den Brer Fox know dat he bin swop off mighty bad. Brer Rabbit wuz bleedzed fer ter fling back some er his sass, en he holler out

Sadly that was better than some people's post I've read.
