So, I just received in the mail today a letter from WDW advising me that the Stormalong Bay slide would be closed May 2 and reopen sometime in "late May." Now, while I appreciate the notice, "late May" does indeed fall within our vacation time. Does anyone know what the expected reopen date is supposed to be?

I just moved my reservation to the Beach Club Villas yesterday - was looking forward to Stormalong Bay and its slide...

We travel May 13-16....

I don't have any further information, but Disney actually mailed you a letter about this? That's the first I've ever heard of this happening.

Yup, it was signed "The Cast of Disney's Yacht & Beach Club Resorts and Disney's Beach Club Villas" and the return address was "For Your Future Enjoyment." I guess they don't want me switching/canceling my reservation (which I may do because one of the reasons we wanted to stay at the BC was for the pool and slides).....

If you have a reservation and something like a pool refurb takes place, they do let you know.

I imagine you just call the central reservation line. It's odd that they don't provide that information if they are going through the effort to give you the letter...

I remember hearing for other pool refurbs you are encouraged to visit different pools in the are. Granted nothing compares to this pool.

And indeed they have. They've offered the use of the YC pool, the Boardwalk pool (with shuttle service) and the one at the BCV. But you're right, Storlalong Bay and its slides were what drove us to stay there for a few days next month. And the kicker is that I've paid the reservation in full. So, some discussion awaits between myself and the Mrs. Wm49rs.....

Well that's quite the bummer. The Poly has a nice pool area. Maybe you can talk them into moving the reservation there for no cost or discounted. You could also see about upgrading you to a suite at BC. It's worth a shot... the worst they say is no.

Good luck with the Mrs. I hope she is understanding.

Alcohol helps with the empathy, I've found.

Along with a good deal of other things..... ;)

Has there been any news updates on this about a re-opening? I know it was left somewhat vague in the original release ("late May")...

Can "late May" be Thursday, when I get there???

It was still down when I left Saturday.

There is a large white tarp-scaffolding surrounding a middle section of the slide just after it crosses over the sidewalk. I remained there the whole week i was there.

This doesn't affect the pool, right? The way I read my letter (I'll be there 5/31) was that the slide was being fixed but the pool is still fully operational.

Yes the rest of the pool is fully functional. I think the kid slide on the shipwreck is open. And they do have a golf cart to take you over to the boardwalk pool. The golf cart appears to be located on the sidewalk just outside of the pool area. See a lifeguard for info.
