what are the chances this going through another retheme? i know the chances of Alien enounters making a comeback are slim to none, but can the premise of the ride be saved while getting rid on the Stitch theme?

I hope i represent the majority in saying AE was a great attraction.

I know people bash Stitch... but I don't remember Alien Encounters being all that great either... what exactly is the Disney theme behind the original attraction?

i think AI gets a lot of love for a few reasons. it was edgy, it was an original story and it didn't have stitch burping chili dogs in your face. that being said, i was never a big AI fan. i think the challenge in rethemeing SGE would be it's current space. i don't know if it lends itself to more than a show. i would think they'd have a hard time putting a ride as an attraction there.

I'll admit, I do not know much of the backstory with AI

I don't think I'd like it no matter what theme they give it. No matter what I do, those stupid shoulder harnesses always end up too low & crush my shoulders the whole time! I'm not a big fan of the chili dog burp either!

I agree with the shoulder harnesses. Those harnesses bothered my shoulders big time. I had to tell my mom about the shoulder harnesses because it could her fibromyalgia to act up since she likes to WDW with my dad.

I remember as a young kid I was terrified of Alien Encounter. One year, my parents convinced my sister and I to go on it, and I did. My sister and I cried through the whole ride, we got really scared. I think the main reason Alien Encounter got replaced was because it wasn't a kid ride. So they decided to make it less edgier and more kid friendly by adding Stitch. Now as a young adult I do wish it was still there because it was more intense, but more for teenagers and adults. But this is Disney and Disney wants to make their rides for everybody (usually), not just a certain age group. This is probably one of the reasons why WDW got rid of Pleasure Island...

The shoulder harness has to go. Alien encounter sucked even worse than Stitch did and that says something. I didn't like Stitch's Great Escape either. The problem is the area is only made for a show attraction like already mentioned. The other option to tear down the building.

What is with all the "AI" mentioning? Yeah, we can all agree that American Idol is the worst show on property but I thought this was another Alien Encounter thread?

Sillyness aside...

Let us get the acronyms right if we are going to use them. No cruel intent but for the sake of possible confusion... Alien Encounter would = AE.

I believe there is zero chance of any future retheme. I think there is a 100% chance of SGE being torn out within the next few years and a completely new attraction installed to replace it. They are not going to throw even more good money after bad. They knew they had a flop shortly after re-theming. This is ultimately going to disappear completely.

I have the same issue. Those shoulder harnesses are murder. They belong in a torture chamber.

I loved AE. It scared the you know what out of me..but that made it fun. SGE usually gets a negative reaction from the crowd..even those that love Stitch. I think its alright for Magic Kingdom to have attractions that are geared towards older crowds. Not sure where the logic of not allowing thrills at MK came from.

Personally, I was a bigger fan of AE... it was a lot more exciting. I do not care for Stich and wish they would just change the whole ride entirely. How about something different with a better character. It can definitely use a major change.

I do. ;)

But rather than typing it all out for you, I'll redirect you to Mr. Hill, who has been kind enough to type it all out for me.

The short, short version: Eisner wanted a really scary attraction, some Imagineers came up with an attraction from the Alien franchise, other Imagineers poo-pooed using the "Alien" so they make up their own alien, opened it in the Magic Kingdom, mothers heavily complained it was too scary, got watered down to Stitch's Great Escape.
