Looking forward to this if true, I always go on SGE but can't so I particularly enjoy it, I would love AE to come back but that's clearly never going to happen.

They moved it from Thanksgiving/Holiday season to pre-Summer. That doesn't sound good.
No, actually March is now the start of the summer Blockbuster season, this is the same weekend Zootopia opened this year along with Batman v Superman, it's a sign they think this new Ralph has the potential to be big

Disney releases a big movie pretty much every March now, I think, with varying success. The last two have definitely paid off with Cinderella (95 million budget with 543 million WW gross) and Zootopia (1 billion + WW gross). I'm thinking they will expect Wreck It Ralph 2 to land somewhere in between those, as opposed to earlier March flops like Mars Needs Moms and John Carter.

Also, I do not believe the tech is close to plateauing. Things will continue to improve in regards to resolution and FOV over the next several years. Assuming VR is not a niche fad (jury is still out, it very well could be), we will continue to see some pretty significant leaps in development over the next 5 years for sure.

Cell phones are already running up against very real heat barriers to running large screens with fast on-board processors, and the FOV of the headsets is going to be somewhat constrained by the practical size and weight of the headsets. They could always go to concave screens, but the second VR headsets step away from utilizing phone/tablet hardware the per-unit cost is going to skyrocket.

All true, but doesn't mean there won't be solutions to these problems eventually. Tethered VR, while a better experience technologically, is impractical for theme park usage -- but so is mobile when you consider the graphical limitations, the need for constant charging/swapping, and of course hygiene issues. Just think about the gallons of sweat that will dumped out by guests coming inside from the gross Florida humidity on these things each day! Yuck.

My point still remaining, Disney should stay away from VR for anything more than a little side show for the time being.

I still think a better usage of VR $$$ is in the home market right now where people who can't make it out to a Disney park can still pay to have a Disney park-like experience. Seems like such an untapped market right now.

im flabbergasted of this move.... why get rid of stitch and replace him with some virtual reality garbage? that desperate disney? sheesh

Perhaps I'm just confused or missed something, but I thought the insiders have already confirmed that this new WIR ride would not be a Virtual Realty. I think people are just talking off topic about VR, but it doesn't have anything to do with the attraction planned for the current SGE space.

Am I wrong? @Magic Feather @marni1971 @MansionButler84

If I am not wrong, then we should refrain from criticizing Disney for something they aren't actually doing.

Ceiling tethers are the only good way you have of ensuring that guests aren't going to drop the headsets into the mechanism of the kart motion base.

It would also greatly simplify the loading/unloading procedure, which will almost certainly be pandemonium anyway.
What's it going to take to staff an attraction like this anyway?

The movie industry in general has decided March is now the start of summer blockbuster season, doesn't mean they "will" make big money, but they are "hoping" too, or that this is when they start rolling out the big budget "tent-pole films" that they believe will popular and potentially big money makers.

It has a lot to do with these "cinematic universe" films, like say putting "Batman v Superman" in March gives them time to run it in theaters, and get it out on Blu-ray and streaming before before the next chapter in that story "Suicide Squad" in August. Both those films did OK at the box office, weren't loved by everyone, but putting "Batman v Superman" out in March allows them to still get "Suicide Squad" out in the summer season... Marvel started it like 5-6 years ago, it worked for them, so now everybody is jumping on the trend
