Thanks for the post. From the article it seems the conversion from AE to SGE not too much is entailed, for instance they are using the same effects, lasers, spit (water spray) and the air for now stitch breathing behind you instead of the alien. I hope they open soft previews in July!

Thanks for the info...

I go in Mid-late September, so it might have had it's hard opening, but at least its soft....

Not to be picky, but where did AE use tracking cannons that shoot lasers? In fact, I don't remember any part of AE using lasers, but my memory might just be playing tricks. Otherwise, it does sound like most of the effects will be similar....but I think we all knew that from the beginning. I'm really hoping this one is good...as good as if not better than AE. I hope all the effects aren't the same otherwise it will seem like just a rehashing of ideas. The new tracking cannons that follow Stitch should be neat and I can't wait to see the new animatronic figures.

Thanks for posting that. It looks like its going to be fun. So much for the scary effect. But if it will be funny, it may still be a good ride.

So CoP is open now to make up for Alien/Stitch. If Stitch does soft openings in the summer, will the CoP close, or will it wait for the official opening?

I agree with CTXRover - can someone clarify where lasers were used in AE? I did read they were part of the containment field, but they never worked when I went.

There weren't lasers in AE!

And besides the story, the ride sounds the same. Hopefully it's still a little scary and the darkness part is still here.

I hope a soft opening is done in June. That's when I'm going.

I see a technical mistake already for this attraction. It's called "Stitch's Great Escape." But the ad says it is a "pre-qual" to Lilo & Stitch. Stitch wasn't named Stitch until Lilo named him. He was only known as Experiment 626.

:animwink: Anyone else notice this? Maybe I'm just a geek.

Hmm interesting catch. But it could mean that it is the creature *we* know as Stitch, and his escape. Maybe they'll still call him experiment 626 in the attraction. Maybe.

I don't know of any way to prove it to you, but there were lasers originally when the containment field was activated after the glass 'breaks' in the chamber. I remember it from the first few times I was on it. There were probably a half dozen that shot vertically from the base of the chamber to the top of it.

In later years they did not work for whatever reason.

My memory of AE is a little sketchy. I know the tracking cannons are 'new effects' but really they are just preprogrammed things that move. I was pretty sure there were lasers in AE, and from some of the responses it looks like I'm right, but since I haven't been on the ride for 5 years, they were probably wokring when I last went on! Anyway apart from the tracking cannons, the other effects seem very similar to what I remember of AE.

In conceptual art for Stitch's Great Escape, you can clearly see two large lazer "guns" in the theater--- something AE did not have.

And yes, since this is a prequel, the alien will be called "Experiment 626"--- not Stitch.

Although the new attraction (why do people insist on calling it a "ride"?) will share many of the same AE special effects--- Imagineers have been given a hefty budget to make it truly spectacular. There will be many new and improved elements.

Although it looked good on paper, AE never achieved the success Disney hoped. Remember, it was closed shortly after its grand opening to be redesigned.

Here's hoping "third time's a charm"!

D'OH!!!

From the title of the post, I thought the STITCH attraction had a new corporate sponsor!

"Stitch's GE brings good things to life! There are still good viewing locations around the World Showcase Lagoon..."

You were right, I now remember the lasers too after hearing some responses....or they may have just been beams of red lights. It was after the alien broke the glass and they had to "activate the forcefield" and probably 4 beams of red light surrounded the chamber so that "as long as those beams are on...the alien cannot fly out!" I forgot about those....but really I'm not sure if they were even lasers or not. But it sounds now that the lasers used in SGE will be quite different than AE as they shoot all over the chamber and come from new animatronic tracking cannons in the ceiling.

I remember the beams being white light and they were on the base of the pod thing. I thought they were just lights. Apparently, those are the lasers. That would make more sense.
