Sticking with the name your grew up with?

I'm normally pretty open to name changes on things, but there are a few that I can't get out of my vocabulary.

I don't know if I will ever call Hollywood Studios "Hollywood Studios". It has been MGM to me since I was itty bitty (plus I think it sounds better).

Anyone else have a name related to Disney that they liked better the first time?

I actually prefer 'Hollywood Studios'. For my liking, a more fitting description of the park.
'Disney-MGM' sounded like one-upmanship. The competition has got only one studio in it's name ('Universal Studios'), so let's take not only their idea for a studio park, but also the naming template, but - in a show of force - bigger and better. Let's outdo them with two studio names, double the fun: 'Disney-MGM Studios').
'Hollywood Studios' much better encapsulates the park, which tries to be about a 'Hollywood that never was and always will be'.

My peeves are:
EPCOT. It must be an acronym, all capitalised. Small case Epcot is just a nonsensical word, without meaning. To me this is the mother of all Disney related name battles.

Peoplemover. In my head it is stil the Wedway Peoplemover. But peoplemover will do.

Now that you mention it, "Hollywood Studios" does seem more fitting. I forgot the real name was Disney-MGM, my family always just called it MGM, as in Disney's MGM Studios Theme Park (like Disney's Animal Kingdom).

Is it an acronym?

Originally. Back when it was a planned city rather than a theme park. Experimental Prototype Community Of Tomorrow. (Though sometimes Walt also said "City" - in fact, he says both in the EPCOT video on the Tomorrowland Treasure dvd.)

I agree that Hollywood Studios is more fitting, but it's also more generic, somehow. I still call it MGM, reflexively.

I also refer to DTD as "Disney Village" sometimes. Downtown Disney is a stupid name anyway. ;)

I'm okay with Epcot (never said "Epcot Center" all the way through anyway).

Back when I did the CP in late 90's, we would say it stood for:
Every Person Comes Out Tired.

I really don't see DHS as deserving of a "Studio" name, period.
It's not even a working studio. More like Movie World Germany...it's just a very cool movie/television themed park. But "Hollywood Studios"? I dunno, but it just seems kinda silly for what the place is today. I'd love to see the place actually become a legit studio, and renamed to just Disney Studios Fla.

Not Disney-related, but I still call "Progressive Field" (baseball stadium in Cleveland) Jacobs Field, because that's the name I grew up with.

I agree, Epcot should be EPCOT. Hollywood Studios I can live with (especially since we always just called it "the Studios" in my family) but Epcot needs it capitalization back.

I still call it Magic Kingdom and not Magic Kingdom Park®.

Ambassador Jennifer calls it Magic Kingdom Park® and so should you! And remember, its Walt Disney World Resort®.

The cast members nowadays like to say that epcot stands for "Every Paycheck Comes On Thursday"..

Oh, and it will always be mgm to me.

Wow, I forgot most of those. Disney Village... Dixie Landing... Guess some are not as set in my brain as others.

I will always think of it Disney MGM.. I even have a t shirt that calls it Disney MGM, but I agree if the name has to change Hollywood Studios describes the park.
