Trip Report Step Right UP! for the Main Event. Did we Blow Niece and Nephews Minds on their Very First Trip to the World?

As Many of you know, We are on a multi year project. This project is to make sure our 4 Niece and nephews get to see the world. For many years, they have been told " you will get to go to Disney" and it never happened for one reason or another. Finally we were in a spot financially, that we could do it. Lets just say this was a very special trip for all of us, not just to see it through the eyes of a first timer, but due to restrictions etc. We will get into that much more later, on why i feel that this may of been my best Disney experience yet. On this trip we had My oldest niece at 17 years, and about to graduate in 2021. and my oldest nephew at 13. They have heard of our trips, seen some photos, but never got to go for one reason or another.

We live in Tennessee, and they live in Maine. If you read my Pre Trip, nothing went to plan on this one ha! There was covid, then my wife's Nana passed away, and the kids came to stay with us far longer than we had originally anticipated, so it made the big countdown actually better, as they were here with us from June, through now. They will go home this weekend, When my daughter goes home to visit family for her birthday.

To say they were excited doesn't even begin to describe it, as they got to be with us through all the final planning, final shopping, and watching our favourite podcaster weekly.

The time finally came, and we were to get on the road! Where we are about 11 to 11 hours with the time change back to EST away we tend to leave pretty early to get settled on arrival day. MY daughter and her fiancee had come over earlier on Saturday and got settled ,as they would be here to watch the dogs, and feed the fish and keep the pool going etc. Wheels up was to be 12:00 AM CST Sunday the 9th. I took a quick nap, as i am the driver, and we got on the road about 11:45 CSt on saturday, and got the wheels on the truck rolling Mouse Bound.

My Nephew had found this cheesy joke card deck on one of our prior adventures this summer, and kept them aside for the ride to keep me awake. This really did help, and the 4 of us laughed and Laughed the whole way through the night.

We do our best to avoid Atlanta, so we go down through Alabama, then in through the panhandle over to where I 10 meets 75, and go in that way. it adds just a few minutes to the drive, and honestly to not deal with Atlanta is nice.

We took our truck this time for the extra room for cargo, and room for people, so it was a new experience from the beginning as we had no idea how many miles to the tank we would get, and how many stops we would have to make. Turns out y thoughts of at least 300 miles per tank was spot on, and could likely do 350 before we have to really get gas. We timed it so we could stop and get breakfast one one stop, so we don't loose too much time. All in all we lost about 15 minutes total in food and gas stops.

On this trip one of the changes was our Hotel. We were booked at ASM family Suites, and well Thanks to Covid, they did not open that resort. Disney stepped up and delivered the upgrade of a lifetime. We got moved to Animal Kingdom Lodge Kidani Village, in a 2 bedroom Villa!!

We had not told the kids where we were staying for the ultimate surprise, but the GPS as we got there, ruined part of it, but they were still super surprised once we got to our room.

Our room ready text had come while we were still a couple hours out, which was super nice so we could get unpacked before we went to the pool for some lunch and some relaxation. We always spend the day at the resort on arrival day, as after driving all day i cant enjoy a park day.

Once we found parking, and a map to our room, we headed up stairs. We were in The Timon Section, 3rd floor, literally on top of the bus stops, but we drove all week, as it was just easier. More on that to come. Here are some photos i took of our home for the week. First silver lining of a Covid world was this amazing upgrade!

We were a standard view, and had asked to be as close to a Savannah view as possible. We had a great viewing window right outside our door, to the left, and got to walk by it any time we went anywhere. Ive got some great photos to come of that for sure.

My nephew said " this is already more than i expected" and this was just the suite. We had not gone to view the Savannah, or gone to the pool yet. That would be next.

Being an arrival day, we unpacked out suitcases into the dressers, and got situated for the week. Next up we were off to view the Savannah, hit the pool, and relax before we went to the springs for our first dining reservation of this trip.

Alright! Its Time for Monday the first park day, and it as to be Magic Kingdom! I mean if you have a first timer or 2 in our case, its a must do to start where it all started.

Not sure how it all worked out, but we ended up visiting the parks in the order in which they opened on this trip.

We got up for the day around 7. 2 hours before park opening, which gave us an hour and a half for coffee, breakfast, an showers. My wife and I woke up to everyone excited and up and ready to go. It was a nice surprise for sure for 2 teenagers ready to get moving! They were ready to see what we had been talking about all this time!
IMG_20200810_082503.jpg

During this, There is a saying our favourite pod-caster lives by, and in these COVID times it hits home. I left it behind for the world to see as we headed out to Magic Kingdom.

IMG_20200810_080556.jpg

Though all of this, there is a Silver Lining, always Choose the Good.

We then got in the truck, and discussed which mode of transportation we would let take us to the gates of MK. When we got there, we decided on the Ferry boats. The Line seemed a bit shorter.
IMG_20200810_090156.jpg

This trip was about a lot of firsts for us all, and confession time! We had never ever taken a ferry to the park to start our day. On past trips we have always taken Disney busses.. Short of that time i lost my licence, and had to go over to lost and found to get it, but thats a whole nother story...

I have to say Driving to TTC was super simple, Bag check and Temp check was a breeze, and its super nice to be able to go right to the gates after that at the TTC.

First things first of course!

At this photo i believe there may of been a small tear on my eye. Now this was not only because it was their first time, but that it was finally happening, and i was "home"

The plan for the start was to go to Adventureland, as my wife and I had read that you could still get coconuts to mail to people, and were going to mail my other nephew this as a joke.

SPOILER ALERT... There are no more coconuts, so as the trip went on we had to figure out what to get him instead. More on that later.

The parks felt empty for sure, and not in a bad way, like in this is a nice break, were going to have a blast kind of way.

IMG_20200810_092129.jpg

We made our way down Main Street USA, where once again i tried not to cry. I was finally getting to share this experience with them. Covid and all, there is a silver lining to everything. This may of been the best way to take them.

We took a few photos at the Hub with Walt and Mickey before we headed to Adventureland.

IMG_20200810_092425.jpg

I can tell you this. I have never felt this relaxed. i didnt feel rushed to run to adventureland, or any land for that matter. Crowds were light, and we could really settle in and take it step by step.

I find there are two types of people... The ones that go left to adventureland, or go right to tomorrowland. On this day, we were the adventureland people.

As we entered, we asked the kids what ride they wanted to start with, and they Chose the Magic Carpets. This trip was all about them, so hey when in MK right?

We had bought a bunch of themed masks for the trip which worked out super well!

IMG_20200810_093317.jpg

After our fly over Agrabah, and getting spit on by a camel or 2, or 6.... We were off to meet the 8th wonder of the world!

IMG_20200810_094653.jpg

We had a great Skipper! likely the top one weve ever had.

LOOK ITS THE BACKSIDE OF WATERRRRRRRRR!

IMG_20200810_095157.jpg

To Wrap up our time in Adventureland for the day, we hit up Pirates. This ride really blew their minds. When i asked them later in the week, what the favorite ride is, my Nephew just kept comparing everything to Pirates. This right here warmed my heart.

We had a bit of time before our Lunch reservation was to pop up, so from here, we did the logical thing and headed to FrontierLand.

I checked Wait Times, and we saw that Splash Mountain was around 30, which was the highest of the park, and my wife doesn't do splash, and felt like a nice sit break, so i took the kids on Splash.

The line was not too long, but we did get stuck for a few n the first lift as they did some transfer loading.

Once we got going, we had a blast! I love this attraction. My nephew was not expecting the in the dark drop, and thought that was scarier than the large drop at the end.

Here we are slightly wet!

Big thunder was having issues,or suddenly is what everyone wanted, and it had a large wait. We decided to shove off to Tom Sawyers island next to kill a bit of time before lunch.

IMG_20200810_112000.jpg

We did not stay over there very long, as if anything didnt sit well with them, it was this. Mind you it was like real feel of 107 degrees out, and all those plants....

We headed back over, and headed for liberty Square.

We got a few fun photos while we were over there.

Where did we eat lunch you ask? Well It was a trip to try new things right?

We gave the kids 2 options for this day. Liberty Tree Tavern, or Skippers Canteen. We had gone back and forth on if we wanted a sit down meal each day, and it turned out to work out so well in the heat, that its likely we will do more of it in the future.

And the winner was.... Liberty Tree Tavern!!!

WOW this was good! Maybe it was the heat, but im sure we will be back in the future.

After we Enjoyed this fabulous meal, there's only one place you can go! That would be the HAUNTED MANSION!! my personal favorite attraction. If you couldn't tell by my mask HA!

I always love this attraction, and it definitely got the kids attention too. It wasn't pirates good to them, but still one of their favourites of the trip. I was just happy to share it with them!

We grabbed some Haunted Mansion Pins in the shop, and i checked to make sure they had the blankets. I decided to get anything big on our last day so i wasnt carrying it around all day on day 1.

Next Up we we would be off to Fantasyland! Stay tuned for our many adventures, some with POOH and Tiger, and some without!

Next up was to be FantastyLand! Likely my wife's favourite area. She loves her some PAN! Pans line wasn't too bad, so we jumped in and made our way to neverland.

IMG_20200810_141416.jpg

When was the last time you saw 20 minutes on Pan?? We had a blast per usual. I even made my own pixie dust to get the lap bar to release after the ride. The cast member was very impressed!

Since we were in the area, i grabbed this shot. Man ive never ever seen the parks this empty, not even Extra Magic Hours!
IMG_20200810_145059.jpg

It was time to really ruin their brains now, and get ' the song" stuck in their heads. To its a small world we go!!!!!!!
IMG_20200810_142845.jpg

IMG_20200810_143246.jpg

By this point in the day, we had swapped to our pre packed second set of masks. This worked out really well all week. Paired with some face wipes to bring down the body temperature, we had a winning program.

After we tormented them on Small world, we headed over to Philharmagic to get a break from the heat. My nephew loves anything 3 or 4 D so they both really liked it. It was a nice break for us as well.

Now i have another confession to make... Weve never ridden the carousel. Shame i know, but on this day we did! Really alot of fun, and the breeze was very welcomed!

IMG_20200810_145603.jpg

Who doesnt then love to go on an adventure with Pooh, Rabbit, Piglet and TIGGER!! We were off to do some bouncing after the Carousel.
IMG_20200810_155143.jpg

Im a huge pooh fan. It is a simple attraction, but hits you in the feels. Its usually a must do for us.

From there there was only a 30 minute wait for Mine Train, and that was as low as it had been all day, so we headed over there. It was their first, and my second ride on it. Always such a fun attraction!

The kids had a blast. I love this one too! My wife does not do coasters, so she got a pan float and waited for us. Next up was to be The little Mermaid.

It had next to no wait so we made our way past beasts castle, and on our way under the sea. Had a blast as always, and the AC is always a nice treat!

Next up was another first for us. Shocker!! We had never ridden dumbo ever! Well my niece is a giant dumbo fan, so off to dumbo we went to sail away! I loved this so much The views were really cool.

IMG_20200810_165604.jpg

The kids wanted to do barnstormer, and i needed a break, so we sent them on to do barnstormer, found the relaxation station, for a few mins of AC, hit the bathroom, and i got a photo of Tron construction.

IMG_20200810_170958.jpg

Pretty excited for this one, and really cant wait to book another trip once we know opening periods.

Once we got the kids from the hands of Goofys flying school, we headed to the teacups. It was the last attraction we would do before entering tomorrowland! What kind of Tomorrow will we find? Stay tuned to find out!

enjoying the tag along - great pictures
Thank you!! I ended up taking about 1500 photos this trip. I'm still close to 1200 once I went through them to edit some. Glad your enjoying it! We were not sure about buying memory maker with the masks, but it worked out well, and gave a nice souvineer to send back to my sister in-law. We bought a really nice photo album and built her an album so she can always remember thier trip.

They have great taste! Carrots of the Pirabbean and HM are my two favorites. And Liberty Tree Tavern is soooo good. Curious.....how was your mac and cheese? That was the one thing we didn't eat because it tasted like wallpaper paste. We devoured everything else, and I'm a huge fan of stuffing, which I can't get here, so that is a huge treat. I ate a lot of it!

I hate when places here try to cater to the Brits and Americans and make « stuffing » - always tastes AWFUL
I've never seen anything resembling stuffing over here! I buy it when I'm in the US and bring it back, or buy it at a specialty store, but all the specialty stores have been out of it for months because of Covid. They can't get shipments in. :( I can make it from scratch, but it's just not the same.
