Good Evening Folks. Heres one to ponder. We have friends who go to Florida every year and stay in a villa but this year decided to stay onsite at CBR for the first time. They had a fantastic time but came back with this theory. That WDW is more than a theme park. Its a place of escapism, where CM's tell you to have a magical day, where the skies light up every night with fireworks, where you can walk around the parks late at night and your so safe from the real world.Anyway they have booked two weeks onsite for next year.It made me think. Is staying onsite your escape from the outside world one of the reasons.WDW is more than just another theme park,it's a escape from reality. What are your views on this.?:)

Disney is the only place I truly can escape. And, it's not about the rides or shows. I can go on fun rides and see fun shows anywhere. It's the other things that truly make it an escape from life for me. It's that:

(1) My trip is completely paid for before I go; as opposed to other trips where every morning I'm reminded of how much money I am spending on tickets to X theme park, and every meal I reminded of how much money this is costing me.
(2) My transportation is provided to everywhere I want to go. No finding parking spots, paying for parking, walking long distances trying to find your car at the end of the day, and buckling kids in just to have to pry them out when they're asleep.
(3) The food is really good. Like good enough that when I leave, I crave it until I go back. Typical theme park food is crap that you regret buying the second you pay for it because it's so lousy but yet so expensive.
(4) The employees are really nice, positive, and helpful. With the exception of eccentric parents and the occasional rude tourists, the environment is just so positive and uplifting. I'm not used to that between being a laywer and having young, demanding children.
(5) I can sleep. At home, when the children go to bed, I work for a couple of hours until I go to bed. At Disney world, I can't work. We're all in he same room, so when the kids go to bed, I go to bed. It's nice to be able to sleep for that long and not feel guilty about it because you cannot be up with the light on and making noise while the kiddos are catching ZZZs preparing for the next long day of adventure.

Yes, I love the rides and amusement. It's wonderful. But, it's about much more than that to me.

Well, I guess we've learned that we all find magic in different things...be it a completely themed WDW resort, an additional week at the parks off-site, the availability of a car, a chain restaurant with no lines, laundry facilities, WDW transportation or WDW food for every meal. But what we all have in common is the most important thing of all....our love for WDW in general. And its that love for WDW that brings all of us to these boards each time, many of us each day, and why I feel a certain kinship with everyone here.

Well Pooh, you have a way of putting into words what my heart is trying to say.If there ever was a Disney Christmas card I would recite some of these things that you've quoted.Cheers.;)

I've never stayed offsite and always enjoy staying onsite. It gives you a feeling that you can't get offsite. Walking through Pop Century and Art of Animation really makes you feel that you're there. I will never stay offsite.

Absolutely it is, which is one of the worst things about being a local now :( Yes, it's great being able to go to the parks basically whenever we want but we mostly do day trips, maybe a weekend here and there but no "vacations".
