Staying Onsite For The Magic.

Good Evening Folks. Heres one to ponder. We have friends who go to Florida every year and stay in a villa but this year decided to stay onsite at CBR for the first time. They had a fantastic time but came back with this theory. That WDW is more than a theme park. Its a place of escapism, where CM's tell you to have a magical day, where the skies light up every night with fireworks, where you can walk around the parks late at night and your so safe from the real world.Anyway they have booked two weeks onsite for next year.It made me think. Is staying onsite your escape from the outside world one of the reasons.WDW is more than just another theme park,it's a escape from reality. What are your views on this.?:)

While the GF is very nice, I would have to agree that you'll want to stay offsite if you're looking for a hotel that truly is a luxury hotel. i.e. The Peabody, The Waldorf, etc. Now you may not feel the "Disney magic" at these destinations, and for that reason, the GF should be your first choice if you want the closest thing to that kind of luxury blended with Disney magic.

That being said, this past trip actually has me rethinking the whole onsite vs. offsite debate. We stayed at WL two trips ago and 'most' of the CMs were between pleasant and magical, we stayed at the Contemporary last year and nearly every CM there kept us in the wonderful Disney magic bubble; however, we stayed at Yacht Club a few weeks ago and the bulk of the staff members we encountered were pretty far from magical. While we found magic in many other places on the trip, it certainly had me questioning the $ I was spending to stay onsite. Seriously, there's a problem when the Motel 8 on Irlo Bronson has more pleasant staff than a deluxe WDW resort. Now, I know this is just our experience and all of our other WDW hotel experiences (from the ones we've stayed at to the others we've just visited) are the polar opposite, but it makes you think...to the point where I started pricing rental houses...which would be a SIGNIFICANT savings. Still, DH and I agreed that our main selling point... convenience...would put us back staying onsite - I just had to promise him that we'll never stay at YC again.

The thing I love about WDW is that when you're on site, you don't have to worry about anything. Want to go to a park? Hop on a bus, boat or monorail. Want to go shopping and still ride the rides? They'll take your purchases back to your room.

Nothing is too much trouble. You are there to relax and let someone else do the work. For me, that's what a holiday is all about.

When I'm offsite I don't have to worry about anything. Want to go to a park hop in the car and drive 10 minutes. Have you read any of the horror stories here about Disney transportation, e.g., long lines, people in scooters and wheelchairs cutting the lines, slow transport on crowded busses? Want to go shopping and still ride the rides? Have your purchases sent to package pick-up or better yet shipped to your home. Don't want to cook, no problem, don't have an ADR, no problem either. There are many, many choices along Vineland and I Drive minutes from our timeshare and we've never had to wait. We enjoy meals in the parks but an ADR is no guarentee you won't have to wait. My magic comes from within and it isn't defined by someone elses idea of what it should be. I truley believe that Disney magic contributed to my beating cancer and I stayed offsite.

Well if you don't know by now, you'll never know.
Maybe if and when this is my avatar, I'll have finally found the magic, so there is still hope.

" Only those who believe in the magic, will find the magic."

There are those who believe in the magic and there are those who make it.

Shocking, that isn't magical.

I truly believe that Disney magic contributed to my beating cancer

Congratulations, and may there be many more happy visits for you to WDW.

Iam truly sorry for those holiday makers that have experienced Horror transportation, long lines, people in scooters & wheelchairs cutting lines. In my five visits ( all onsite ) Ive never experienced any bus problems, long lines,(FP please) people cutting in front of me.I must be at a different WDW than those poor unfortunate souls.:) And by the way..All my visits have been in July.( the busy season )

Gotta get that profile up to date before the Disney police get ya..When you say your a local yokel,I presume you mean Floridian? But the " Older than dirt " now that's really got me thinking. There could be a zillion answers to that one. :)

I can tell you with absolute certainty that sardine packed buses are routine and can be expected during opening and closing time. If you haven't experienced it, you must not be using them during those times.

visits have been in July.( the busy season )

Other than being a gluten for punishment, you must have a really good reason for coming in July.

. Well all I can say is your definitely at another Disney venue than I am..I have video footage of the three of us off to MK at 7.10 am in the bus and were the only ones in it leaving PORS.As far as night time goes,we're not late night people so I can't comment on that..The reason we go in July is quite simple. Our school holidays are July/ August and my DS attends school and my DW works at a school.

:( Ever wondered what something tasted like but never have tasted it.Well that's the difference between Onsite & Offsite.;)
We have often considered the option of staying onsite. Considered the Contemporary even, but when we broke it down that we could stay for two weeks offsite compared to two nights onsite we have to step back and think what we want more. We realize how beautiful the resorts are, we've read and seen the videos. But our choice is time over $.

Whit the H... 2 weeks off site for the price of 2 nights on site.If its costing you that much over there, then I don't blame you.For us 2 weeks staying at PORS is about $750.00 more than 2 weeks at Wyndham on I- Drive.Thats about £500.00 to us,and I don't mind splashing that kinda extra for two weeks of total stress free Disney magic.;)
