For anyone that has stayed at the Swan & Dolphin or the Resorts on Hotel Plaza Blvd, does it still feel like your staying on Walt Disney World property?Yes I do know the Hotels are on Walt Disney World Resort property but I have spoken to some people who say it's not the same experience as staying at a Resort owned by Walt Disney World because they claim you don't get all the same perks & benefits. So what are your thoughts?

Next vacation to Walt Disney World
August 8-19, 2006 at Disney Contemporary Resort.

Just the opposite. The perks and benefits at the non Disney resorts are far superior (room size, price, newspaper, free breakfast, happy hour, room service, etc.) to anything offered by WDW resorts.

We stayed at the Dolphin in '04 and will be staying at the Swan (in 1 week!!) and really love the atmosphere. Those 2 resorts are right in the middle of the other Epcot resorts, so you get a lot of "disney feel". Walking distance to the Boardwalk and all of it's activities and places to eat, you can see SSE and part of MGM from them. Also, depending on where you are, you can see some of the fireworks from Illuminations and Fantasmic (more flashes), and from the Boardwalk you can see Wishes. Each resort has a Disney gift shop with Disney CM. You can also walk to Epcot, MGM (a little bit of a walk) and the Yach Beach Club resort. Also, you can ride the Friendship boats, very Disney.

You get EMH with staying at these resorts, and can even have packages sent to these resorts from the parks.

You can't beat the comfy beds at either resort....the Swan has 2 queens available while Dolphin has 2 fulls. Guest service is also wonderful. And as Woody states, there are many perks to these resorts.

Hope this helps!

Our favorite Disney resort is Port Orleans Riverside; in my opinion, it just can't be beat for theming, atmosphere and amenities. However, there have been times when price was a determining factor in our choice of hotels. For those times when we had less $$ to spend, the Grosvenor Resort was an excellent alternative. The great room rate, and the hotel's two pools and other amenities, made it an excellent choice for those times when we were on a tighter budget.

If you stay at Hotel Plaza you lose the Disney transportation system. Swan and Dolphin still have it. I know the hotels over there claim "regular" bus service but it is very weak compared to Disney

Not old, just vintage.
im kind of relieved to be hearing these comments right now. I have been SERIOUSLY bitten by the Disney bug again and i'm finding that I dont think I will make it through the summer without a WDW trip. I was there last August and I am seriously considering taking up the wdwmagic.com Swan/Dolphin discount offer for this August. Ive been telling myself EVERY DAY since the end of the trip last year that this was going to be the year that I didnt go to WDW but my willpower is not holding up too well right now. :lookaroun I have always been afraid to stay at the Swan/Dolphin for fear of feeling alienated and very 'un-Disney.' I have always been hardcore about staying on property and have no plans to change that fact anytime soon... 18 consecutive trips and never once stepped foot in a non Disney hotel. My biggest fear is that I am going to get there and be really disappointed by the lack of Disney-ness at the Swan/Dolphin. Anyone have any encouraging words to calm my fears? Has anyone stayed at the Swan/Dolphin and had a bad experience or problems?

We loved staying at the Dolphin and would readily do so again. It doesn't have a specific time or place theme like the moderates or deluxe resorts do, but they do have a whimsical style and architecture that makes them unique and enjoyable in their own right. It's more like staying at the contemporary minus the monorail. The rooms were great, the beds were amazing, and there are some amazing restaurants in the Swan and Dolphin complex. You get all the perks of staying on property except being able to charge purchases to your room key. You get extra magic hours, You get disney bus transportation (same bus line as yacht, beach, and boardwalk) or friendships to Epcot and MGM. You can quickly walk to boardwalk, or take a bit longer hike to Epcot's back door. Disney Guest Services is also missing so it's a little harder for the front desk to help you book dining reservations, tours, shows, etc. The only annoying thing is they keep telling you they aren't a Disney resort whenever you ask them a question.

We've also stayed off site at both on hotel plaza blvd and other orlando area hotels. When you are off site, you're offsite. Even with the shuttle buses we found it much easier to drive ourselves onto disney property. It was never really practical to come back to the room for a mid afternoon nap. But we got a nice comfortable room for a lot better price. So it's a trade off.

What kind of Disney-ness are you used to? Like Poly/GF disney-ness or All-star disney-ness? The Swan and Dolphin offer you deluxe style accomidations for less than moderate level prices with this deal. It's not going to be wall to wall mickey and disney icons like the all-stars or transporting you to another time and place like the moderates and deluxe do. So you do loose some of the theming but really that's about it. I believe there is a character meal somewhere in one of the buildings. The buildings are right between Epcot and MGM so you may have a view of one or the other from your room. So you never will forget you are at Disneyworld.

While I can't really have an opinion as to whether it's better than the other resorts, as I haven't actually stayed in any, I have been going to the Dolphin for every Disney trip since I was four, and the only downside i've found is that I was unable to get an on-property discount at Disneyquest. As for the feel, I think it's just as magical as any other placeon property, as it was said earlier, the place is simply whimsical.

I also did stay once at the Swan, not as good as the dolphin.

Take this as you please though,as it is coming from a sixteen year old, I can't really tell you anything about the value you'd be getting, and there might be some perks missed that I am unaware of.

I was in the same situation 5 years ago. I didn't think I'd ever stay at the Swan and Dolphin because they weren't "real" Disney Resorts. Boy, was I wrong! These hotels may not be owned by Disney but I feel they are just as magical as the Disney owned resorts. I'm so glad that I had the opportunity to stay at the Swan (I've stayed there 4 times so far). The Swan and Dolphin are in the perfect location, the rooms are recently remodeled, the pool is huge and has a waterfall you can swim under, Fantasia Gardens mini golf is right across the street, and the beds are the most comfortable I've ever slept in anywhere. While I love all the Disney resorts I've stayed in (both moderate and deluxe) if I stay somewhere other than the Swan I feel a little sad (not too sad of course I am in WDW after all  ). To me the Swan has a very comfortable and homey feel. I really enjoy it and I am looking forward to trying the Dolphin out soon! Have a great trip!

Just a sidenote- I have a few art history books that have the Swan and Dolphin in them as examples of postmodern entertainment architecture. So they must be good if they make it into text books right? :animwink:
