Staying Aboard While Dream is in Nassau

We are taking our first Disney cruise in 34 days, leaving from Port Canaveral on the Dream for a four night trip to Nassau and Castaway Cay. NEedless to say, we are really excited.

We have been on other cruises that stopped in Nassau, and we were planning to spend the majority of the day on board (instrad of going on an excursion in Nassua). We thought we might be able to avoid some lines at the Aquaduck and generally have a low-key, less crowded day. If we really get bored, I suppose we could hit a few shops on land.

For those of you with more experience, has anyone done this before? Does the ship generally accomodate this strategy by keeping things open, etc.?

All help will be greatly appreciated.

We did the same thing on our last trip, relaxed on the ship, couples message, pool, hot tub, pool, hot tub, rode the aquaduck about 20 times and just relaxed on our verandah.
Having been to Nassau before and enjoyed things there, this was a nice relaxing way to spend the day in Nassau also.

That's great to hear! Thanks for replying.

It is a good time to stay onboard! The ship isn't nearly as quiet as it would be at other ports because lots of guests do the same thing in Nassau. But it's still quieter than a sea day and everything is open. :)

We were on a 3 day Dream cruise in September for our first ever cruise. I'd say probably 2/3 the people on the ship didn't get off at Nassau. I had read that Nassau isn't the cat's meow, I'm not a beach person, and we booked the cruise to experience the ship. Honestly, I sorta wonder why Disney even bothers with Nassau because soooo many people don't leave the ship. Had a fab day onboard the ship.

So maybe we still will be dealing with the crowds a bit? Oh well, 2/3 is better than 3/3, and I'm sure we'll have a blast! Thanks!

A little bit! I've stayed onboard at another port and the ship was empty. It's definitely not empty at Nassau. But still, definitely not as full as a sea day.

You will definitely have a blast!:)

I recommend Blue Lagoon. It's cheap and good for a change of pace. It's not a big ocean view of course.. it's a sheltered lagoon about the size of a decent marina... but it's beach, it's warm, it's clean water. Plus they have various activities, etc there. For the $45 or whatever it is.. its a nice diversion.

They have their full gambit of activities going on the boat. Your navigator sheet will outline the activities for the day.

Thanks. That sounds like a good option if we get cabin fever.

Like Tammy said, there's still a good number of people onboard at Nassau but its still a good time to enjoy things. We were onboard during the day for a bit while at Castaway Cay and we definitely felt like we were one of maybe 5 people left onboard then. LOL!

I thought blue lagoon was just ok, I probably would not do it again personally. Its a bit of a herd going there. I think i would rather do the Atlantis beach day.

FYI, we've done the public beach next to Atlantis on our own. It was a grand total of $6 a person roundtrip (a few years ago, could be a little more now) for the water taxi to essentially the same beach. :)

Here's the beach:
