start up dates announced for nemo ride and stage show?

Anyone know if they've already put out the call for CM's for the Epcot attraction? I'm trying to think backwards from day 1 of soft opening. You need, what... A couple weeks of interviews and hiring, maybe a week and a half of training? I'm guessing, of course. I'm just trying to do the math of how long from the day they start interviewing till that first crew is trained and able to handle a soft open.

Anyone?

yes that started on friday july 28, when I was last there!

Iam not that excited about a musical nemo show at AK- anyone else with me?

I'm looking forward to it. I saw Avenue Q on Broadway and it was very clever, hopefully this will be a good show as well, without the tag line from Avenue Q..."The Internet is for *&%$"...those of you who have seen the show will know what I mean!

Is this because you don't like shows and would rather another ride?

I shall be reserving judgement until I get to see it. Nemo is not a favourite film of mine, so the subject matter does not grab me, but as long as it's not another lite version of the film and they do something theatrically interesting with it then it should do the trick.

Let's just hope that Disney will tone down the writer's lyrics for Nemo as opposed to Avenue Q. I don't think WDW vacationers need to hear about racism, , homosexuality, full frontal nudity and an assortment of other contraversial issues. ...although I've seen AQ and loved it. :lookaroun

Ave. Q was great, but keep in mind, fish don't wear clothes, so the puppet nudity may still be an issue :lookaroun

I think both will be great!

I hope the fish nudity doesn't go too far, or they at least handle it tastefully.

I've also heard that Dory is a Lesbian. I wonder if they'll adress that in the musical, or just gloss over it?

Lee - So if they're already hiring CM's for the positions, realistically how far off could they be?? I'd assume they're not going to get to that point till they're almost ready to hand over to ops.

Soft openings might be closer than we think on this one, no?

Based on what I've heard...some sort of openings (soft, AP or CM) no more than 6 weeks out....probably less.

There is no official date for the opening of the Nemo stage show in DAK. WDI and Walt Disney Entertainment are only forecasting that 11/2006 will be the opening. The theatre has extensive work left on the exterior and interior. The show is not planned to be pushed back so I highly doubt a 12/2006 opening. It seems like they want it up in time for the Thanksgiving rush. CM's have not been assigned or have even been close to being assigned a position on any sort of opening team; you are still looking at at least mid-October at the earliest for any sort of preview let alone a soft opening.

Yes, according to those who are going to be working IN the show (meaning Performers, not Cast Members assigned to the theatre), rehearsals start in September. For most professional theatre, performers are given about 2 months (sometimes less) to rehearse until the show is put on. I don't think the Soft Openings are going to be weeks in advance like they were for Everest. I think a soft opening to preview the show will be maybe a week in advance, perhaps even a couple days. If anything, they would want to get the show open to all guests in the park as quickly as possible.

As for the jokes and blah about the writer of Avenue Q doing it, I know what y'all were saying was all in good fun ^_^ But seriously, haha, the reason why they chose him to write the music was because he puts quirky jokes in his lyrics that people catch, and laugh at, and love. This was kinda what Finding Nemo was all about. The fact that almost every Pixar movie deals with an "out of the ordinary" subject (like Fish, Toys, or Monsters) and personifies them as humans was sorta what Avenue Q did.

Avenue Q was, haha "Sesame Street: Uncensored" if you catch my drift. The puppets (though obviously being puppets) were just like humans (including nudity, sexuality, etc etc.) and then there were those happy-go-lucky messages they added in there, and didn't sugar coat. It's like smiling at your friend, and in a cute, sweet, honest voice, saying "It's not that I think you're fat, I just think you're morbidly obese" and then breaking into song about it. It was these sort of things that were quirky and funny, and attracted Disney to the writer.

They thought "Gee, how great would it be if we could break into song in the middle of a moment in Finding Nemo? Wait a second, didn't Dory do that? How perfect!" And they chose the best writer for it.

Now don't get me wrong, I love Finding Nemo, I think the writer is gonna do amazingly, but I don't like Avenue Q. There are many reasons why, and as a theatre person, I can say, honestly "Avenue Q was great" but it's only directed at certain types of audiences, and while I can say it did well, their company cheated certain OTHER shows out of certain awards, and yet they're still not doing as well as those OTHER shows, who have been running just as long, and got to where they are now WITHOUT the marketing strategy that Avenue Q took.

Anyway, haha, I can't wait for the show to start! I'll be back in December, and LOTS of new things will have started.

But a regular theatre show will be a couple of hours in duration, Nemo I imagine will be around the thirty minute mark, so technical problems notwithstanding they won't need as long to rehearse.

They really have not kept this a secret. As was posted earlier it will start previewing on the Nov 5th and open officially for the press and general public on the Nov 12th. In the theater world you set a rehearsal and tech schedule and you stick to it.

While it is a short show there is a LOT to do in the six week reharsal process. Most importantly mastering the vast array of puppetry styles in the production. Plus there will be two full casts and understudies. It will also need a long tech process as there are so many complicated special effects in the production. This is a fullly mounted production that will blow many broadway shows out of the water - so to speak.

I'm hoping you get some good pics, too, Kris. ^_^ Like I said, I'm excited for this, and won't be there until December, but since I'm familiar with the technology they're using, and have heard one of the songs from the show, it won't ruin any of the magic for me. :) I don't know if you all saw the post I had made before with the video of one of the songs from the show, but if you'd like to see it, please feel free. I love it, I think it's cute, and if you imagine the person playing Nemo as JUST Nemo, and not the person singing it, the voice sounds cute:

OMG! Thanks so much for the link! I am more than excited...if this opens 11-12 I will not be working the 13th!!!!!! WAY better than I expected. :sohappy: My son LOVES NEMO!!!! He's three and has made me watch this at least once every one/ two weeks with him for two years. It is so much like the movie that I think little ones will really be able to relate the show to the story. Thanks again.... 70 days to go!

I seem to recall the most recent Mickey Monitor saying something about a early October opening for the Epcot ride. correct me if I'm wrong, but I was pretty sure of this. I really hope that it is because I think that I'm gonna there around that time for MNSSHP

The exact wording in the Mickey Monitor for the Epcot attraction is "Starting this October" (nothing about when in October). There's also a sidebar about a passholder preview, which they said they'll notify is about via email.

An article on the following page about the show at AK just says "late 2006".

I am excited about catching the show. Sounds like a lot of fun. :) Last time we were at Disney, we were limited on time & so didn't have a chance to see any of the shows at AK.

Exactly, Disney, although they are a "Theatre production" is quite unorthodox with the rest of the theatre world. For instance, Dark Days are Tuesdays, not the traditional Mondays (out in Cali), and they find "creative" ways to get lighting and sound equipment to the top of say...Everest or Space Mountain.
