Star Wars VII Cast Announced!

While the EU has been tossed out, I still expected the films to include Mara Jade (not that I know too much about her). From the cast, it doesn't look like there's anyone for that role.

I love the fact that Peter Mayhew is involved. I read last year that he was having some issues with his knees or something, and was having money problems trying to get it fixed.
And on a lighter note, I love that he is there for this readthrough. Ok, now Peter, say your line: "RRRORWWOWOOWORR"
I talked about this a few weeks ago when it was announced he'd be returning. He did indeed have his knee replacement surgery last year. The money troubles he was having was in crowdfunding a documentary about the surgery and his rehab; he didn't meet the kick starter goal (a fact he seemed very sore about when I asked him how the project was going last month at MegaCon).

I'll be honest, after seeing him at the con, I'm not thrilled. He could barely walk, and that was a year after the knee replacement and with his custom light sabre cane. I just don't see how he'll be able to wear that heavy costume and realistically portray Chewie. The only way I see it happening is to incorporate Peter's physical limitations into the character as a result of age or injury.

I didn't really notice any of the originals there, but it was a little unclear. Did I miss them?

It will be him in closeup shots and any shots of Chewie running or other strenuous tasks will be a stunt double.

Look closely at the photo. Ford is right next to JJ Abrams, Fisher is a couple seats away, Mayhew is close to Fisher, and Hammil is in the lower left of the photo. I might have missed seeing Daniels, didn't see Baker (though maybe he is in R2 in the box?!?).

From JJ's past works, I doubt it.
With Kasdan working on it with JJ, I have to disagree. I have to give them the benefit of the doubt on this one. Not that we really know all that much yet, but none of their actions scream money grab. I loved star trek, and I think Abrams will add the perfect blend of story and action that star wars needs.

As far as the cast goes, I like that I really don't know much about any of them except the returning cast. Now the waiting continues for what all the roles are going to be. I really hope this is the start of steady star wars info coming in.

So happy to see Andy Serkis involved. I look forward to seeing what they come up with. I am a little disappointed to not see Billy Dee there. I always liked Lando and would have been great to see him in the new film. Anyway, staying cautiously optimistic!
