I kinda hope so...because he was unexplained, useless, and sucks on the darth maul pointless scale as it stands now...
Darth Maul wasn’t pointless imo (nor was Snoke). Besides helping us better understand what a Sith apprentice is, he killed Qui-Gon which was important to Obi-Wan’s journey and probably had something to do with Anakin’s fall since Qui-Gon wasn’t around to train him. Further he was 1/3 of arguably one of the greatest lightsaber duals in all of the movies. Are you sure you like Star Wars?

As am I...and many of us...and i have a legitimate argument here...

...No matter what charts come off the google
Since none of us are prophets (tell me if you are) or the sons of one, I’d say we’re all pretty much just guessing right now. But as i’ve said before, expect this movie to follow in the footsteps of ESB as far as box office drop-off goes (compared to the first movie in it’s respective trilogy). Just a guess though...

Darth maul represents all that is wrong with lucasfilm to me...

He had this pseudo cult following like boba fett...but fett looks like Hannibal lecter in comparison (until they changed his voice which was stupid)

...now, maul is kinda neat in the cartoon shows...but that doesn't give the movies a pass for what was ultimately a low levels enforcer on screen...

Are you sure you were around for the original trilogy? Because "cool ligjtsaber duels" sound like prequel/fast and furious type fandom...

I love the ligjtsaber stuff as much as the next guy...but after revenge of the sith realized it needed to be more elegant again and less CGI...that ending was ridiculous and it was supposed to be the key moment in the entire canon...

Swinging from ropes and and behind the back twirling 2 feet apart? I kept waiting for James Bond to show up...

Now the Mace windu/palpatine thing I can cope with...not terrible..

I meant more the feeling of the arc...and you don't have to be a prophet to identify there.

As far as gross, would you expect a "resurgence" or "legs" to get it to $1.5+?

I don't think you do...but I'd have to also look at international...it's been kinda weak too, no?

It also makes this announcement that he's gonna get 3 more movies look premature. Did Kennedy and iger and Abrams watch this and scream "everybody's gonna love it!!!"
There was buzz starting a few months ago that the reception to this movie was going to be split. They called it "different" and potentially divisive, but that Lucasfilm loved the direction it was taking, even if it might anger some sub-set of fandom. They knew exactly what was coming.

To that end, I think it makes sense that the announced Rian's trilogy in case of this exact type of backlash. It's harder for Iger to have him fired now as part of a knee jerk reaction(not impossible, just harder).

But for all those gen x'rs like me who love the film and can't wait to see Johnson's trilogy, I hope that works out. I'm honestly more excited now to see what Johnson will do with his films than I am to see episode IX. And far more excited for those than any fan-service nostalgia fest stand-alones they try to throw out there with Solo, Kenobi, or Boba Fett.

My expectation has always been 70% of TFA though they could do better than that if this week goes really well. Anyway, just got to Universal so I’m out for a little while. Peace.

Baffles me why their parks close so early! Anyway, I'm excited for Fett and Obi. Especially if the movies cover multiple time periods in the same film.

Yeah, true. They are open till 10 tonight so not too bad. We have the express pass thing on our AP so we can get a lot done in a couple hours.

Can you imagine a Quentin Tarantino Obi-Wan style western? Now that would rock! Not what we’re gonna get, but I can dream.

...he's going to become increasingly vocal about this as time goes on...

‘The Last Jedi’: Mark Hamill “Regrets Voicing Doubts & Insecurities” About Luke Skywalker

Mark Hamill, who made the Star Wars character Luke Skywalker a movie icon, has been expressing his opinion about the portrayal of the Jedi in Rian Johnson’s The Last Jedi. During interviews for the film, Hamill has said that the Luke in the new installment is not true to that of the original character. He has since been criticized and praised for his comments, but recently took to Twitter to set the record straight.

“I regret voicing my doubts & insecurities in public,” he said. “Creative differences are a common element of any project but usually remain private. All I wanted was to make good movie. I got more than that – [Rian Johnson] made an all-time GREAT one!”
My apologies this wasn't in the form of a chart.

I'm guessing Mr. Hamill received a rather pointed call over the holidays that reminded him of certain duties of his contract re: marketing the film he was paid to make.

Or he was horrified that an honest difference of opinion was being used by rabid haters... As if fan bases suddenly cared if Daniel Craig thought about a plot point in any James Bond movie.

Perhaps, but I would point out that Mark was already expressing positive thoughts about the movie and Rian Johnson even when he made his comments about Luke going in a direction that he initially didn’t agree with. Of course the press likes the juicy stuff and kind of glossed over that part, but it’s out there. But I don’t doubt that Mickey called and was like (please read the following in Mickey’s voice), “haha, gosh pal, but maybe you should straighten this crap out yo....gosh.

Aren't force ghosts only open to light side users?

Remember, "force ghosts" was actually the hook Palpatine used to try to sway Anakin with... the 'escape death' thing was teased as a way for Anakin to keep from losing the ones he loved.. but the format was really the force ghosts. Which Yoda tells Obi Wan he has the knowledge that Obi Wan needs to study while he is in hiding. This work in EP III ties it all together to explain how Obi Wan does his trick in EP IV
