Does anyone think the 5k is gonna lead to hordes of people walking over to lineup in the morning? I’m planning on arriving at 6:20. I can’t imagine even if a significant amount of runners come over that it would be more chaotic than last week.

We dealt with this the week before Christmas. I had always booked all the FPS, tickets, etc, and wondered how my husband would be able to ride with my son. Have him create his own MDE login, then go to guest relations and they’ll easily merge them. He can’t use your login, because if you don’t use your Magic band to enter the park, he won’t be able to get a boarding group.

EDIT:I see he actually can use your login. But I’d still create an account for him to avoid any issues in the future. It only took about 5 minutes in guest relations for them to merge.

You can actually do it yourself with no need to go to Guest Services. If the husband creates their own MDE account, the wife then just goes into her account and under the husband's listing fills in the husband's email address. Husband accepts the friend request and voila! Everything copies over automatically.

Personally, I'd suggest anyone who's going to be accessing the app have their own account to log into. I could see a nightmare scenario where the app decides to log him out at 6:58am and he suddenly has to scramble to get/remember his wife's login info again, rather than just having his own login. (Heck, I suggest all adults travelling to WDW have their own MDE account, even if they always leave the planning stuff to someone else who is linked to them. It gives the most flexibility with a minimum of potential headaches down the road if they need to plan something without the main account holder)

I've read thru nearly this entire thread and couldn't find the answer, so I'm hoping someone can help. If the park officially opens at 7:00am, what time do you recommend arriving to get in a BG? Is it possible to catch a resort bus that early?

The Disney resort busses will be running. My experience on January 1 was busses running a little before 1 hour prior to park open at pop century. Skyliner will not be running and I don’t think friendship boats are either.

You need to be tapped into the park prior to opening... allow 10 minutes for security and lines at the entrance and that means you need to be stepping off the bus no later than 15 min. till park opening.

For what it’s worth, my 1st day trying I was scanned in the park about 3 minutes after park opening and still got a regular BG, but a late one. This was on a 6 am open day, which was much better.

On the 1st I got on a bus at 5:45 thinking the park still opened at 6:00, pretty sure I was in the line up by 6:00 cause I was trying to figure out why the gates at had not opened.

Remember I was staying at pop which is right around the corner from studios, more time would be needed from other resorts.

On Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, with a 7am opening, Friendship boats were running at 5:45

The general consensus is to arrive at the park one hour before it officially opens to be sure that you are past the gate and in the park when it officially opens and you can then compete with the other 2,000 people who are all trying to get a BG at that exact same moment.

Far less than that is safe now as there is no benefit to early arrival (as long as you're through the gate by 6:59). Half an hour is more than enough.

edited to add - unless you want to rope drop the Millennium Falcon ride - then earlier is better. That line for rope drop gets insane by 6:30.

Most of today’s 5k runners would really have to book it over to get there and get in before 7, I’m in the first Corral and still figure my best case is getting to HS gate by 6:30 factoring in travel and everything getting out of Epcot. I doubt the walkers will get there in time. But there could be a big crowd of runners just getting in town that are only doing one of the remaining three races and are using today to rope drop a park and do the expo.

So from reports/pictures this week it seems that if you arrive at the park between 6:15-6:30, they’ve already started letting people into the park, therefore you can easily get through security and park entrance with little to no issue, as the throngs is people are no standing around waiting.

Correct?

Determined to make this work now lol! Let’s hope for a smoother day than yesterday. Checked in 3 mins earlier than yesterday and received a backup 7 groups lower.

It is so interesting showing up at 8:15 rather than 6:15. You would literally have no idea that there was a brand new, sought after attraction that people were in line for 3 hours ago. Both days I’ve gone from the parking booths to into the park in under 10 minutes.
