News Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance Standby Line and Boarding Groups at Disney's Hollywood Studios

This is exactly what should be done. 8 hour standby, so be it. At least guests can then make that decision themselves if they want to wait. The way it is now many people are just completely locked out, even though they were at the park at park opening.

Right now the ride can’t handle an 8 hour standby. Based on my experience it breaks down so often that the 8 hour standby would literally you being in line at 6am and maybe getting to ride it at park closing, maybe.... Not a good look, boarding passes is probably the way to go to minimize impact on guests

But it's the same thing with FoP Rope Drop.

Park opens at 9 am.
But they open the first turnstyles at 8:15 am
Nowhere does it say this.

A rhueb who strolls in at 8:30 thinking they are early is in for a rude awakening as they are looking at upwards of a 2 hour wait even before park open.
Yes, but they don't close the line at 8:30am and tell arriving guests the ride is done for the day. You can still get in a long line afterwards so the analogy doesn't apply. Now, if they opened the actual line for RotR at 8:30 and then let guests in at 9 it would be accurate.

But why wait 8 hours for something you have no chance in riding.
Wouldn't it simply be better to be told no so that you don't waste 8 hours.
There are plenty of people around who would at least like the chance instead of just being flat out denied by boarding groups being closed before they even have chance to join it. Just my opinion.

Once again you are moving the goal posts.

You made some trumped up claim that hotel guests were at a disadvantage when in fact they were let in on buses an hour before the parking people.

I'm not arguing with you anymore. There are many people telling you the process was unfair to people trying to follow stated procedures, including resort guests, and you aren't going to agree.

There are going to be two camps here and no one is changing their minds.

Read through the thread. People are whinging and complaining about every little thing even though Diseny's made a great ride and done a great job.
They built an outstanding attraction. No doubt. Yea!

They have completely fumbled the opening. Boo!

So, I have to call the theme park wars a tie for 2019. Both resorts built great attractions and fumbled the openings. Starting with opening things that weren't ready for primetime. Except maybe Disney did it twice. Once by opening SW:GE without the headliner being ready. Then opened the headliner without it being ready.

It will be interesting to se how (if at all) differently the opening is handled at DL given three experience they are gaining at WDW...

In related news, I saw the full commercial for Galaxy's Edge before a movie yesterday... highlights Rise and SR (And gives away far too much of what actually happens on Rise IMHO). Realky nicely done commercial... was neat to see the "Now Open" comment at the end of the commercial (with the only sub comment being the note about Rise opening in DL in Jan).

You mean like learn something from Universal and make it fair to ALL guests when a new ride opens. ;)

That's just relative since FoP has been around for 2 and a half years.

The procedure and behavior remains the same and consistent by Disney. It's not like, "oh surprise" we're suddenly not following our MO
FOP the next day after opening went to a 2-4 hour wait. The wait time alone regulates how many people will get online. Sort of like market pricing. Too long and people will avoid, too short and people will flock in. It will eventually settle on an equilibrium, probably about 4 hours for the first couple of weeks. Add to the fact that there is no FP and it could be a much better experience than the FOP wait.

Yeah it’s kind of mind-boggling how bad they are at this so far. Hopefully they figure this out soon. I wonder what their long term plan is for the attraction. This is not sustainable IMO, and demand will remain high for quite some time.
I think they should do a hybrid model. Do standby only in the morning - turn all this BS into a madhouse rope drop ('a la FOP). Close standby at 11am and open boarding groups. Start boarding groups at noon.
But they can't have 5,000 people get a multiple experience pass for this so they've gotta get it running right first.

Why can't they allow EMH guest to line up in line and ride for the first 2 hours.. then when park opens at 8 or even "7:30", then start the boarding groups. Have the EMH guest scan their tickets in line, and allow only one ride for everyone, including for the boarding groups.
Good idea in theory, but there are a lot of eligible guests for EMH so there will likely still be a massive line. Perhaps if they made it a random lottery for resort guests for the first two hours via the app that might work, but that requires functionality that would need to be added to the system.

Exactly. I think people just want to wake up late and eat their cake too. Just laziness.

If you have ever been to general admission at a concert or world championship parade getting their early is always the key. None of the staff ever really knows what is going on and things and plans are always changing.

The further the staff let things wait the more line cutters and obnoxious line jumpers start moving to the front which leads to unfairness and fights.
Sigh. No one is saying they want to stroll in late and get on the thing. How can we get that through your thick head.

I don't give a flying fig if they want to open it at 2am. But if you announce a 2am opening, don't open it at 1am.

Here's my final opinion on the logistics of this boarding pass, what's fair/unfair, as not only is my wife sick of hearing me talk about it (and she hasn't been on the ride or to the parks with me the last 4 days) I'm tired of typing it all out too. LOL

No matter what side of the fence you are on, just take a moment to consider this:

1. Disney knows that more people want to get on this ride than they have the capacity for

2. If you tell people 8am boarding system goes LIVE, you know plenty of people are not only showing up way before that but constantly checking their phones over and over well ahead of time

3. If you have resort guests in the park for 2 hours and non resort guests you let into the park 40 minutes early, and all of those people would suck up the entire boarding pass system, why wait? If you wait another 40 minutes and then have say another 2-3K of people, you are not only upsetting 2-3K of people, you are potentially upsetting guests who have waited LONGER than those that showed up last minute. Plus you have guests in the park and upset. Guests walking up to the park have the ability to be disappointed but they've invested zero amount of time, therefore less upset.

4. It's potentially easier to "recover" and upset guest who has waited 5 minutes or arrived at the park at 8am and can't get on he ride, than someone who was there since 6 or 7am.

5. If you take what Disney tells you literally, but everyone else who got a pass didn't, what does that tell you? This is reality, rarely in LIFE do you get the same chance/benefit as someone else who has made the effort to wait a longer period of time.

That's my 4 cents on the matter. I'd be happy to discuss the ride itself going forward. Rode 8X over these past 4 days. And now with boarding system only allowing you 1 per day, that should help ease things out going forward and manage expectations.
