Would be interesting to know if 138 was truly the last number they gave out. If it was, with boarding groups closing at 9:33am this morning and rle3lunch snagging group 130 at 8:50am, that means they gave out 8 backup groups in 43ish minutes?

Would be interesting to know if 138 was truly the last number they gave out. If it was, with boarding groups closing at 9:33am this morning and rle3lunch snagging group 130 at 8:50am, that means they gave out 8 backup groups in 43ish minutes?

I would not be surprised if the majority of Disney guests don't fully understand the BG system.
I could easily see people being sort of vaguely aware that you need to be there at opening to get a guaranteed ride, but not realizing there's still the potential for backup groups a bit later. In other words, that people just don't even bother looking to get a group because they assume there aren't any if they weren't there at opening.

Does it say in the app that you need to get there at opening? Or anywhere, for that matter?

I have no idea. I also think it's possible that a huge number of Disney guests have no idea the BG system even exists.

Oh, I agree. But this ride has been advertised everywhere, so I'm pretty sure that if someone is interested in riding it, they find out how. (I see commercials for it multiple times per day both on cable and on mobile apps)

Yeah, I don't totally blame Disney for that. There's only so much hand-holding they can do for guests.
With that said, someone probably shouldn't have to go to a Disney fan site to get basic information about how a ride works. They ought to fully explain it in the app (if they don't; they might).

So it seems that the early and late groups will get one hour.
They also open at 9am, instead of 7 at DHS.

I haven't seen a peep. The members of my group just ask if they have a question. No complaints from them really other than the usual "why boarding groups instead of Fastpass" stuff.

Nothing next to “my Status.” Tapped My Status and got offer to join boarding group.
Added three others.
Got #32
Interestingly , guy next to me cheered for #56 as I got #32. Have no clue how that happened.
We took Lyft from Riviera to DHS upon advice of front-desk CM who warned me that while buses started at 6, I would feel more in control if I took Lyft. We were are driver’s 7th run at 5:50. Toll booth knew him. No backup at booth. Driver said it was really bad about 5:30.
We all thought RotR was amazing and that the grief was worth it, and that includes one in our party with an ECV and on O2 who was pleased we forced her to get up and get moving. They came from SSR so used Mears booked the night before for the ECV accommodation.

I wonder how many first time riders would have ridden today if the AP holders were limited to once this week.
wish they would release how many riders today were repeat riders and also repeat riders within the last week.
my guess is the BGs would have been open a lot longer.

Is anyone wondering why you ask this every other hour?
I was on Mon and Wed from a 4 day trip (Sun-Wed). This was my chance to ride because I won't be back until Oct/Nov at the earliest.
As for the return time, I found it on my phone. I was notified at 7:16am with a return time of 8:16am but I checked in within 20 secs of notification so that didn't matter to me personally.
Interesting note on #TeamScratch vs #TeamRefresh. On Monday, my son got BG 8 using refresh but today kept getting an error. I got BG 7 by starting the app from scratch (although 5 secs earlier than 7am since my phone takes about 7 secs to start from scratch) while my son struggled refreshing.
Best success rate is having 2+ people in your group trying different methods at the same time.
