News Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance Standby Line and Boarding Groups at Disney's Hollywood Studios

I know Disney is surveying about the boarding group process. I think it has to remain until the attraction is reliably at 80%+. I do think this should be first come, first serve and somehow be linked to where you are in line once again, but I understand the push to have everything open at 7.

What I would suggest in addition to the boarding groups is a lottery system for the backup groups. Make it so the lottery is open until a certain time of day (say noon for example) and allow you to enter your entire group in the lottery at once.
I agree that they should keep BG until it is more reliable. I think the problem that Disney is facing now that its been open for almost 2 months is that a lot of the people that are riding are repeat riders that are local AP holders and the vacationers/resort people are not riding for whatever reasons...……I agree with some people who have posted other solutions so that others can ride with some version of the following as possible solutions:

1) limit AP holders to one ride per week
2) allow morning EMH for only resorts guests to access
3) spread BG availability throughout the day

While all these have there positive and negatives, it is probably the most fair approach to satisfy most of their audience without alienating any one group

Except for those AP holders such as myself. You're going to tell me that I can't make multiple trips to the studios out of compassion for others? This isn't my problem. It's Disney's for opening an attraction that can't operate the way it should be operating.

1. What about the out of state AP's? The ones that come 2-3 times a year. Is it fair to only allow them one ride during their trip while a person that buys a 7 day park hopper can go every day if they wanted? There are a lot of AP's that are nowhere near local. This isn't Disneyland.
2. You would have to somehow cut the line to only contain 2 hours worth of line. That's approximately 25 "groups". Otherwise, the line would get out of hand quick.
3. Still against this. The person that received BG 60 this morning would have been SOL on this method, needing to wait a few more hours and then be faster than they were. I don't know if people understand how quickly 100 groups go at 7am that have not experienced the process, let alone releasing dozens at a time.

Not saying that at all...…You can go to Hollywood Studios 8 days a week. But you can only ride ROTR once until they resolve its operational issues

I don't know what the exact solution is. From everything I have read, this current system seems to be flawed by alienating some groups and Disney knows that. But it seems pretty obvious they want to improve on the current one they have since they are surveying guests

But RotR is the headliner. If Disney wants to make an even playing field by shutting the thing down, then maybe they should do that. As of now, we all pay our Disney taxes. We all get a chance.

Yes but a lot of their audience is missing out and they seem to be looking for solutions to resolve that until reliability is improved

I understand that the majority of the audience here would be affected the most by changing the existing system and that's an unpopular opinion on the forum. But there is another very large audience that are not on these threads that they are trying to appease

There are solutions that can be fair for everyone
I don't know the exact solution. I was just pointing out what other posters suggestions have been. Maybe just limit local in state AP holders to once per week? limit out of state to 6 rides per year and let them choose how they spread them? maybe only offer a limited amount of BG's for EMH?

They have to alienate some groups. Even after effectively eliminating anyone who can't or won't get there by opening time and preventing same-day re-rides, the demand still far outstrips the supply. Adopting an "improved" system that alienated fewer guests (in other words, one that dangled the possibility of a ride in front of a larger group, with a correspondingly larger number of people disappointed and angry when they were denied) would only highlight how poor the capacity and operational reliability of the attraction is at present.

The fact that they're not even trying to keep it open for EMH (if only to cycle through remaining backup groups), and are begrudgingly dribbling out schedule extensions only at the last minute, as if hoping that an 8am opening might be "good enough" after a few weeks, tells me Disney isn't that interested in improving the situation or making it more fair, either. The surveys are just for show, and will be used eventually as the basis for an announcement along the lines of, "you said you didn't like the boarding groups, and we've heard your complaints! Now, to improve your guest experience, and for just $169/adult and $159/child, we're giving you the magical chance to purchase a Fastpass for RoTR!"

I think they're doing what they did when they started reducing EMH and regularly running rides at half-capacity, years ago: manufacture demand by reducing hours and capacity below levels that are acceptable to the average guest, then after people start to miss the kind of experience they used to have when hours and capacity were higher, pretend to swoop in with a "magical" solution (e.g., Morning Magic, Disney After Hours), framed as a special guest "opportunity" that people have just been begging for (in surveys or otherwise). Deliberately running things at insufficient capacities and for shortened hours just sets the stage for Disney to make guests eager to pay more and more, while Disney provides less and less.

If they stay with the current system; must be there at 7AM and hopefully get a boarding group for 7PM, We will never get to ride it. My family have tried to make rope drop in the past and have only been as close as 10 minutes late for rope drop, Lol, since all boarding groups are filled by 7:03AM we will never make it, lol

maybe some day RotR will have stand by and fast pass..

The good news is now that we have Galaxy’s Edge and the two popular attractions, maybe we can get on to Toy Story Mania, we have only rode that one two or three times because There was never fast passes available and the standby was always 120 minutes, lol

Nahhh, I disagree with you there. There’s really no sense of urgency in B mode. He’s not standing right in front of you and it doesn’t feel like you need to get out of there after he explodes. With the blown out side of the ship and with the wind and sirens, it sells it way better that you need to get out right now.

An idea...
Do the windows in that scene actually have glass/plastic in them? They could make them transparent screens so that when Kylo's ship is there a piece of battle debris hits the windows and they start to crack, threatening to blow out... As you turn and start to drive away the farthest one (least visible at that point) could break which cues the wind.

I think for me it's less that B is an improvement and more that I just can't stand how A looks and feels. The noodle-like motion, the pacing, the ridiculous ceiling - It's very easily my least favorite part of the entire attraction.

It seems like you're jumping through hoops trying to crate rules and restrictions when currently the only requirement is waking up early.
