Tommorow May be bad. It’s the last day for gold and below AP before blockout dates till mid Jan
As a platinum holder, this is the exact reason I haven’t tried riding since last Tuesday. The crowds have gotten pretty extreme in the morning with the earlier opening time, holiday crowds, and the gold and below APs upcoming blackout dates.
I’ll be trying one last time for the year on Friday where hopefully it’ll be maybe 5% less crowded with the blackout dates going on. Time will tell!

To give people something else to argue about, I have a modest proposal:

The problem is that too many people each day are trying to ride this ride. What if they limit you to just 2-3 Boarding Groups per month? That would free up a lot of slots for new people to have a turn and possibly reduce the mad rush before dawn.
That preferentially penalizes locals while having no real impact on vacationers.

For those getting to the park in the 430a time frame, are you able to drive in and park in the DHS lots or is Uber/Lyft the only option? I am in town on business tomorrow and hope to ride before heading to work.

So how would you solve the problem? No matter what, people were going to line up early for this ride. This is a fact. People still get to AK an hour before opening to get on FOP. All the Disney parks tend to open a little before their scheduled opening - I rope dropped a park every day last week and there wasn’t a park that didn’t open a bit early.

DHS is now opening about a half hour before the listed opening time... this is well within its established pattern. You could have maybe argued the soft opening with the 8 am scheduled and 630 opening times earlier last week but now they’ve adjusted accordingly with a listed open at 7 and an actual open at 630ish. Pretty normal for DHS. More people are just getting there early than average.

This is Disney. You want to ride the rides without a wait, you get up early. It’s been that way for many years. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. The BG process is so much safer than the sprint to get into the standard line and then the potential hours long wait. I loved it and that 4 am wake up was worth it.

You just sound butthurt that you have to get up early to ride it.

I wont. Im not butthurt i will wait. My life will change literally in no way if i ride it or not. I will ride it when its sane. You point out a good point though. Its been this way for years...why is that? Why has attendance soared through the roof but ride capacity has lagged far behind? The studios park as a whole is woefully under capacity. This is a systemic problem caused by years of poor decision making. And hell they build rides. Look at toy story land and look at FOP and avatar land. They spend a ton of money. In return what do they get? Lack luster ride capacity? This attractions opening is legitimately a victim of its own success.

Enough with the there there in reality with this ride specifically what they could have done differently is do exactly what there doing but not advertise it as open to all. Thats my entire point. My point isnt the boarding groups or the early opening. Its the utter lack of cohensive information from official sources. You SHOULDNT have to be on a fan forum to ride this ride. YOU should be able to go through official channels.
This is the first time a system like this has been used on any scale like this and you ALL act like its normal. Just another day at disney when there is NO precedent.

In summary
Rides great
I dont care if i cant ride for a year.
Disney should clairfy there information
Disney should have called it previews or softs etc so nobody expected to ride

Worked for New Fantasyland. 7DMT still gets long waits, but nothing like FOP.

I can see that being a more viable option in Disneyland, with a huge volume of guests as locals. Don’t really see how that restraint in WDW would really have any material effect.

I agree with this.

Everyone has to draw the short straw and get up at 4 ;)
Nope. CM allowed a man at the front (he was first) wave his hat for several minutes to get the attention and allow 5 people to arrive at six am to move to the front of the line with them. CM even joked about him teasing the back of the line; lady behind them escilated it three times and no avail; so Disney allows placeholders in lines now because it’s too hard to control

Have I told you lately that I 👍 you?

I feel like the cast members are told to treat that like the cashiers in the 10 items or less line when someone comes up with a full cart. Don’t encourage the behavior but don’t confront them either.

It doesn’t really get me upset when someone comes up shortly after the other person in line and the people cutting up are fewer than the rest of the party that has been waiting. But those folks that think their whole family reunion can cut 100 people to meet one person are the worst!
