The characters in SWL are not the Meet&Pose characters elsewhere. They walk around and interact and purposely avoid having a line for pictures.

Who the heck wants to interact & take pictures with Finn, Rose, & Rey? Again this land **IS NOT** Star Wars! This is Disney's version of the last 7 years of Star Wars. A version that isn't appealing to ANYONE.

It's appealing to a lot of people here. That invalidates your statement on its face.

It's appealing to Disney fans. The same people who keep going to the parks on a regular basis. I'll give you that. But don't expect a boost in attendance. It won't happen!

There's a reason AP holders saw a nearly 20% price increase last year, why a 'lightsaber' cost $200, and why some alcoholic beverages are near $75 in SWGE. Got to milk the same cow.

I've been a star wars fan long before I've been a Disney/Parks fan. And I highly enjoy the new Trilogy. I know I'm not alone in that.

Getting up at 6am to go to a theme park doesn't seem like a vacation, it seems like punishment. Unless you've just flown in the day before from Moscow or Istanbul and are working through a negative seven hour time change.
It’s appealing to me in the sense that I can get out of the parks by the early afternoon, and as someone who loathes the heat, I’d much rather take a nap around 2:00 than sleep in till 10 and bake all day long.

I also can’t complain about the longer hours of operation; it’s almost like the golden days of MK, and the lines and overall experience are benefitting from it.

A enjoyable vacation can be many different things to many different people. I’m confident those different people are extremely grateful for not being confined to enjoying a single type of experience.

no one has an emotional connection to this new trilogy, None.

I do. My two brothers do. A bunch of my Star Wars nerd friends do. A bunch of our kids do. And according to this recent article on upcoming films' social media engagement it's likely that a bunch of people online do.

Star Wars is Star Wars. A Stormtrooper is a Stormtrooper, an X-Wing is an X-Wing. The core elements and design language are all there. The land being set in the ST vs the OT has zero impact on the average park goers impression of the land.

Based on wait times park attendance is down across the board. That's indicative of a problem outside of the scope of Galaxy's Edge.

I don't quite get the people who are so vehemently against the new Star Wars trilogy.

Do I personally think it's good? Not really, no... it's not that it's BAD, it's just sort of boring. I think I'm a huge outlier, though, in that I believe Force Awakens was the problem rather than the Last Jedi. From a film making standpoint the whole Canto Bight scene was a huge misfire that felt like it belonged in a separate movie, but generally the movie was fine for what it was. I wasn't a fan of most of the plot decisions made by Rian Johnson, but almost all of those issues are directly a result of the Force Awakens plot and he at least tried to shake things up. JJ Abrams put the galaxy in the worst possible place; almost anything would have been more interesting than his choice to reset everything back to a small rebellion against a big evil menace.

Regardless, I don't understand why people trash it everywhere. Just because I don't like it doesn't mean it's objectively bad or that other people are wrong to like it.

This is because characters that have been portrayed as humans not in suits in films are never that interesting because suspension of disbelief is harder—even for kids. Chewbacca is a man in a Chewbacca suit. Same with Kylo Ren or Vader. But the Rey walking around is not Rey and everyone can see that except the youngest of children.

Not to get bogged down on the debate here about this, but I just wanted to say that I absolutely agree with this point. I think face characters of live action actors look so dumb because they virtually never look that much like the people. Characters without faces (masks, etc) or ones from cartoons work much better. I think it is better served for M&Gs to be masked characters/aliens/droids - still gives plenty of opportunities for Star Wars.

Personally, even as someone who likes M&Gs, I wouldn't waste my time lining up to mean cheap knock of cosplay Luke or Han or Rey. And same goes with Marvel. It's one thing to meet a masked Spider-Man, Iron Man, Captain America, Black Panther, etc. but another to meet a face character like Captain Marvel, Starlord, etc that don't quite look right. YMMV.

There's a reason that Belle in the parks doesn't attempt to look like Emma Watson

Agree in most cases, but the Rey in California looks enough like Daisy Ridley that I had to do a double take.

Being a rather voracious Star Wars fan, I have to think that Disney is playing the long game here. Look at the attractions. Everything will be post Last Jedi. And there is a reason for that: It's Disney's direct IP. They can add to it. They can control it. They can mold it. They can't do that with the original Trilogy and the prequels. Now.... I do think that that "legacy characters" will become a thing - ala MNSSHP type event within GE, and I would welcome that- but to be able to immersed in the world of Star Wars for a day--I'll take it. ("But it's not STAR WARS") Yes it is. Just not your myopic view of it. IT's special to some people. Luke is and will always be my favorite character and I love what was done with him in Last Jedi - but I didn't at first. Until I realized that life is complicated and does not always follow the same projected path. So get over yourselves. It's a product. It's pop culture. But- it's also a product and as such it can be molded and shaped by those who create it.

It must be costing TDO a fortune to have DHS open for extended EMH and no one is there wanting to take advantage of it in the 6 and 7AM hour.

But hey guest satisfaction is through the roof.
To say no one is taking advantage of it is a bit of an exaggeration. Lines are consistently 45 minutes or longer at 6 AM. I also saw a YouTube video the other day of Ogas Cantina packed - at 6:30 AM. Between Oga's, Savi's, and Droid Depot I'm sure they are doing just fine. The land looked pretty busy as well. And that's 6000 people who line up / get to ride in those EMHs every day. If they were opened normal park hours, those 6k people would be spread throughout the day.

You seem to be looking for reasons to attack GE.. Why such the Debbie Downer?

Try 15 Minutes, with everything else in the park 5. I love your enthusiasm for SWGE, but in its current form the launch has been a bomb. Not as bad as DLR, but no where near expectations. This wasn’t supposed to happen. Boarding groups were expected to be in place till the end of September, they lasted less than 10 hours. Hotel bookings were to be sold out through 2020, they aren’t, all those price increases they expected people to suck up aren’t being tolerated. And all I hear is excuses and apologies for why SWGE underperforming.

My ire is not directed at SW, it’s directed at incompetent leadership at P&R. Their missteps never wind up hurting anyone but guests through cuts and price increases and now they are reaping the rewards of their incompetence.

Things may get better or they may not, but whatever winds up happening with SWGE doesn’t change where it is now.

Just don’t go around towing the Disney line that everything is awesome (sorry wrong brand) because it’s STAR WARS! This failure should be a mechanism to clear out execs in P&R and WDI complacent with mediocrity and stupidity.

Great point!

And it just dropped to 30 minutes. I would much rather wait in the current 30 minute line at 6pm then get up at 6am for walk-on. The indoor queue is very nicely done, especially the Honda pre-show guy, no need to rush through it.

Getting up at 6am to go to a theme park doesn't seem like a vacation, it seems like punishment. Unless you've just flown in the day before from Moscow or Istanbul and are working through a negative seven hour time change.

Not to us. Getting Galaxy's Edge done first thing gives us further time to enjoy the other offerings, it may not be good for you but having the option can't be a bad thing surely?

I looked at MDE multiple times in the 6 AM hour and it was above 45 minutes for most of it. Looking at yesterday, it was at 60 minutes for the first hour.

No one is disputing that the launch didn't go as expected. They bungled several parts of the launch. I would agree with the statement that the launch was a failure. What I object to is the idea that the land is a failure just because the launch was bungled. There is still time to recover and retool and have a majorly successful land that returns on their investment. A lot depends on how well RotR is as a ride. If it's a knock your socks off kind of ride, a lot of what you said will probably happen. MF seems to be the type of ride that appeals to some, not to others. That's fine as the secondary attraction of a land, but not the primary. And to open the land without a signature attraction was a huge blunder. You're right in that they thought that just because it was SW, they'd make bank. And that didn't happen, probably because the ride is not the cutting edge/blow you away type of attraction they need. I've seen a lot of reviews that love the land, love the ride. I've also seen a fair number of reviews where people absolutely love the land, but are meh on the ride. So we will see what Rise brings to the table.

I also know a bunch of people who are not Disney Parks fans who are excited about this and are planning vacations - in the next year or two. I do think the success of the land will be more a marathon than a sprint. If that wasn't expectations, well, their expectations were flawed and/or they didn't do enough marketing (most of the people I mentioned did not know when GE was opening until they saw news reports two weeks ago... Disney did a poor job marketing this, because Bob didn't think they needed it... Well, if people don't know the product is there for a vacation that requires 6 months of planning, what do they expect?)

As far as EMH, I hope they get huge positive feedback on those and make a ton of money on Savi/Oga/Droid Depot, because more hours are better for the guest, don't you agree?
