Audition Posting Reveals Story of “The Gatherers”, Lightsaber Craftsmen in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge
April 26, 2019 Matthew Soberman

A recent audition posting has revealed information about the “Gatherers” that will work at Savi’s Workshop at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge:

Show Description:
Within the Black Spire Outpost – a thriving destination for those who would prefer to go about their business unnoticed – a group known as the “Gatherers” operate within a covert workshop. Packed with ancient relics and whimsical pieces collected from the far reaches of the galaxy, the Gatherers are experts in the art of designing and building the lightsaber.

Character Description:
Warm and inviting; capable of leading a structured interactive experience. Gatherers have dedicated their lives to restoring balance in the galaxy. Adept at engaging authentically with visitors. Though slightly quirky and mysterious, the Gatherer is always personable and humorous. Good comedic and improvisational instincts. All abilities, genders and types welcome.

And here’s the sample dialogue that auditioning performers will read for the role (though there’s no guarantee that this is what will actually be used when Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opens.)

“Welcome! My name is Kembe and I’m part of small group known as, the Gatherers. It is our purpose to search the galaxy for ancient relics… and what we find, we bring here to our workshop. What you see here may look like old junk… but let me assure you… some of it is new junk. We do this to hide our findings… So where those who would do us harm see only worthless clutter—those who know, see priceless history.

And in these troubled times, preserving our past may ensure our future. And that is why you are here. To build a lightsaber. The lightsaber has been wielded by some of our greatest heroes, and darkest enemies. It is elegant, and enigmatic. The saber is a reflection of its builder, with the Force flowing between them. Today, you will feel that connection. But enough of me talking. Let us begin.”

And for those who want to know more about Savi’s Workshop, here's the description of the shop we learned about back in February:

At Savi’s Workshop, guests are given the opportunity to draw upon the Force as they build their own elegant lightsaber. At the heart of every saber is a kyber crystal, and during a guided tour, each guest will have four options to choose from: Peace Justice (modeled after Jedi from the Republic era); Power Control (a nod to the Sith); Elemental Nature (harnessing air, earth, fire, and water); and Defense (shrouded in mystery). Will you embrace the light side of the Force, like Luke Skywalker, or the dark side of the Force?

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opens May 31st at Disneyland and August 29th at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
wow...

They're going the full LARP experience with this place!

Or... you can just post the source... ;)

But that site almost never posts their "source" out of fear people will keep their eye out on the real source rather than go to them as they repost public information as if it were insider info.

I remember when they posted that MAMMR was going to be announced months ago at Destination D and then just didn’t bother posting any follow up that they were wrong or why plans may have changed.

Really, it's just Olivander's in space. When described as a "structured interactive experience," I wonder if it entails some sort of minor show that people can watch, or if it's only for those purchasing.

Watch the videos from celebration about the light sabers. They move the buyers through phases... that's likely your 'structured interactive experience'. They make a big deal about which crystal you pick.. and what it does.. then you move to another stage and pick a hilt... and then another to get a blade/accessorize/etc. I imagine it will be a blend of Olivander's type acting.. with assembly line style picks and building.

Oh, I see. I hadn't seen that because I'm trying to shelter myself from information as much as I can. Sure enough, a magazine with a feature on Galaxy's Edge appeared in my mailbox! Now it's sitting on my chair, taunting me.

I have the castle cover, so far my will power has been holding strong.

Think of it as an acceptable risk. Realistically it will be a long time before I can visit Galaxy's Edge and when I do I hope there are some surprises left for me. Naturally I will pick up on a few things around here(though I generally pass this thread nowadays) and I wouldn't have it any other way. It's one of the reasons I come here, along with the spirited discourse that I enjoy about these boards and I believe I would miss it were I to refrain until my next Disneyland trip.
