So is that the black spire or is it one of the yet to be built spires? The one they are working on isn't quite black.

In any case, this land is going to be impressive to say the least.[/QUOTE]
The blackest spire will be in the retail area. Those more colorful peaks are concentrated above the millennium falcon ride entrance.

ESPN runs an annual auction to benefit the V Foundation. This year the auction includes an opportunity to attend the opening of Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge. If you notice though it says at Disney World. What are the chances the winner doesn't realize it opens at Disneyland first?

Current bid is over $16,000

The Target-exclusive edition of Solo: A Star Wars Story (coming September 25) will have a bonus feature on the making of the Millennium Falcon attraction at Disneyland's Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge:

The Millenium Falcon: From Page to Park – An exclusive look at the history of the most famous ship in the galaxy, its origin and development, and how it will translate in one of the most anticipated expansions in Disneyland’s history.

My cynical guess is that it's 99% recycled clips from previous movies/BTS featurettes and then they'll close it out with some kind of soundbite from Imagineering while showing off the same concept art everyone's already seen with a COMING SOON TO DL AND WDW IN 2019! Would be cool if it was a real first look at the attraction though! I guess we'll see in about two months, eh?

Cannot wait. Honestly I hope that Disney one day releases a how it was made book. Love the behind the scenes stuff.

Agreed! I think SWL will probably beat anything Disney has done in the last 30 years in terms of aesthetics, immersion and story. The last time I was this impressed was the opening of TDS which is still impressive of course. But this is Star Wars, something I grew up on and loved. To see an entire land in this much detail is astonishing!

Random question: Does anyone know if the ride vehicles for Battle Escape will have simulator-like hydraulic movements (like Transformers, Spiderman etc.) or if the vehicle will just be stationary like Mystic Manor/Luigi's?

Not sure if anyone knows the answer to that just yet unless Marni does.

However here is a picture of the vehicle model from D23 last year:

In my opinion I'd expect the vehicle to shack and bounce a bit with the action like with exposition and laser blasts.

Thanks for the pic! It looks awfully similar to other trackless ride vehicles. Others do not shake or rattle so if this does, it will be the first of it's kind. If not, it would call for a very underwhelming battle experience. I've been on Mystic Manor in HK and of course Luigi's and it almost feels like the vehicles take a second to think about what they have to do next. Also, trackless vehicles have a hard time accelerating and mimicking dramatic movements :/ We will just have to see how this will compare.

Well they are going for many "firsts" with this attraction. However there are different types of trackless systems, just look at Pooh's Hunny Hut in Tokyo. Pooh's uses LPS instead of guide sensors in the floor like in Manor. So the vehicle motion is more fluid and has less hesitation. Also systems have advanced even from just 5 years ago. So I wouldn't expect there to be anything less than fluid movement.

I've mentioned this before, but I'm growing increasingly concerned about the general health of the new berm. A quarter of the trees still look questionably dead. Another quarter look very sad.

Could someone water the trees please?
Agree - I’ve monitored these trees as well. It’s also natural for transplanted trees to have shock their first year. It’s natural too for a planting project this large to lose a few trees as well. No doubt Disney landscapers know this. I assume ( hope) some of these trees will be examined and replaced as needed as part of the final landscape plans for the area over the next 6-8 months.

It better do some of this. Otherwise can it even be better than Indy? With that said, I’d rather have a little speed if possible. How fast do we think these vehicles will top out at? 6-7 mph?

Pirates in Shanghai is just a rotating boat... and I think many who have been on it would argue that it's better than Indy. Wouldn't write anything off just bc of the vehicle type. If it's not supposed to be a high energy, rocky, adventurous type of thrill ride, you wouldn't really need a vehicle that does all that. We really have no idea what's going to be going on in that show building just yet.
