What I take from it is that at its opening Disneyland, unlike DCA, EPCOT, DSP, etc, wasn't specifically themed to a unified subject. DL is primarily rooted in broad fantasy, the future, and historic themes. Under this framework SW fits just fine.

IT'S THEMED TO AMERICANA

Just for fun, tell me again how Star Wars doesn't fit into Walt's original mission statement for his park?
I'll bite: Star Wars isn't about the actual past, the future or the hard facts that created America. I guess, though, you could say SW fits nicely into the "Savor" and "Challenge" part, as it conjures the idea of paunchy old SW fans recalling the first time they saw the films as kids or teens... And kids dreaming about becoming film makers when they grow up. :D

Bottom line, though: The balance between Walt Disney-created elements and acquired IPs will continue to shift. The park can still be fun, but at this rate it soon won't really be Disneyland anymore except in name. I can't imagine the current (or future) management even being aware the entry plaques exist.

Where DOES it fit in that statement? Memories of the past I interpret as traveling back in time to old places. Is Star Wars a dream or fact that created America? I'm sorry, I honestly don't see the fit.

Star Wars is a piece of Americana. Not only does Luke represent America in WWII, but the film is rooted in the past with homages to WWII movies, Westerns, Samurai films, and Flash Gordon serials. Its a film that deals with the ideals of the past and using those ideals to fight for a better future.

To all who come to this get more happy place; welcome. Disneyland is a corporate created theme park. Here annual pass holders relives fond memories of the past…and here youth may savor the challenge and promise of the future corporate IPs and acquisitions. Disneyland is dedicated to making money, hocking our latest IP and the commercialism that has created America…with the hope that it will be a source of unending income and profits for our share holders.

I disagree, but even if that's true SW still fits.
Yeah that's why I don't complain about the theme. Do I like that an entire 14 acres being dedicated to two attractions and one IP? Absolutely not. Star Wars, truthfully, belongs in a land themed to an alien planet on the border of Tomorrowland that also holds some Marvel properties as well as original attractions. Rather than being a singular IP land based around one American science fantasy/fiction idea, it would collectively hold all of them and more in the same way Fantasyland does.

Yes, DLR is about 500 acres and WDW is about 29,000 acres.

what i find more interesting is that Disneyland is 85 acres and expanding to about 100 acres with SWGE and Disney's Hollywood Studios is bigger at 135 acres.

Disneyland resort website list for Disneyland park

54 attractions
23 entertainment venues or activities

Walt Disney World website list for Disney Hollywood studios

13 attractions - They are already including toy storyland attractions
22 entertainment venues or activities

some how WDW management doesn't know how to take advanatge of all that extra acreage they have

Disneyland Resort has more attractions than all of Disney World combined. It also isn't hanging on to second hand 25+ year old parades and shows like WDW does.

I'm tempted to write a long boring post about the evolution of brand and its growing importance in Hollywood films and theme parks, but you probably know it all too well, so I'll just skip to the point. Just since December, in less than 6 months, the Disney Studio has raked in an astounding $2.2 BILLION in box office revenue all from established IP, something that would have been unthinkable in 1955. So there's very good financial reasons why Disney isn't mixing these cinematic worlds together and handling them with such care.

Sure, there's a lot of good financial reasons Disney does what it does. But how much money goes into Iger's and other suits' pockets don't mean anything to me.

Well it should. It's the reason big decisions have been made throughout Disney's theme park history. If a certain film had been a box office blockbuster Discovery Bay would be back there behind Big Thunder instead of SW:GE.
