It's an obvious buffer between the lands but with nothing particularly worthwhile judging from the concept art.

It's what separates the design of SW land from the other lands at DL. You don't see that sort of space in the rest of the park. It's all awkward cramped bottlenecks, but that's what makes it so charming. It's a stretch to say this path through a wooded area gives the edge to DL's version. Like that guy said when they were searching for Titanic survivors, there's nothing there, sir. Ambiance, maybe. We'll see.

Ambiance at DL is tricky. It's virtually nonexistent in its traditional form because crowd levels create an atmosphere unique to DL. We don't yet know enough about what we're dealing with to make any kind of intelligent judgement.

I will say that I would prefer some type of ambiance other than a wooded area.

If this is any indication of what we can expect with Star Wars land, at least in WDW, then it's probably best to experience it in the first few years.

Exactly. And how typically idiotic of Disney's theme park managers; WDI builds them a manly tavern themed to Gaston, and a few years later they devolve the menu into ladies spa lunches and kiddy karbs.

I am sure Star Wars Land on opening weekend will be full of themed food, themed merch, enthusiastic CM's saying nothing but themed scripts, etc, etc.

And two years later it will offer churro carts and Jack Skellington t-shirts and slovenly CM's with neckbeards mumbling "how many? row 2, how many, row 3"

And if they stop asking "how many? row 2, etc." capacity goes down and people start complaining. Cumulatively during peak attendance, every empty seat and every second's delay results in hundreds of people not getting to ride that attraction that day. I knew a cast member who worked Pirates and hitting that 2700/hour mark was incredibly stressful. That's why they left attractions.

Disney fans are a curious lot. I'm not sure I've ever come across a fan base with such a love/hate relationship with the thing they enjoy.

You can love something and criticize it as well when you feel it’s not doing something right.

I think when we get to Heaven, some of us are going to love the place, but within a week, we're going to start griping about some angel who designed a cloud and put it too close to a fountain, or how Tokyo Heaven has better designed Pearly Gates than Paris Heaven.

All kidding aside, anyone who's ran a restaurant will tell you that if product isn't moving, you change your menu. Maybe Gaston's Tavern was a bad idea to begin with, when everyone is going to walk right by it on their way to the $$$$ lunch or dinner at Beast's Castle. Maybe Turkey Legs and Pork Shanks fit a theme, but people don't want to eat Turkey Legs and Pork Shanks. Personally, I think Gaston is a repugnant character to begin with and an odd choice to build a food nook around.

It wouldn't have been so odd if it was an actual tavern serving booze rather than a blatant Butterbeer ripoff.
I thought they did serve actual beer there? I could've sworn I read something when it opened about this being the first time they served alcohol in a Magic Kingdom park.

Anyways, this does bring up something that I don't know if it's been discussed. It's very likely that DHS's SWL will have cantinas that serve alcohol seeing as the park already sell those kinds of beverages. Now I'm very much against selling alcohol in the parks, especially in Disneyland, but what's the likelihood of Disney throwing away tradition at Disneyland in favor of "authenticity" (making money off drinks) for Galaxy's Edge?
