we also have to factor in the amount of needed space now a days required for ADA compatible evacuations. Buildings have to be bigger now even though the attraction does not need the space
One of my compaints with the recent additions of darkrides which include the very short Winnie the pooh adventure, RSR and monster inc is the lack of intimacy of guest with show scenes. The older dark rides in Fantasyland had tight tracks with show scenes as close as possible to guests as they could get them. Now attractions have the show scenes pushed back to allow extra room for ADA evac as well as to avoid having stupid people damage them. Not only that guests are more careless and are more easily hurt and that is why even older rides are being modified. A couple years ago the matterhorn had to have many of its rockwork re-done to give a bigger clearance from guests. this is an attraction that had been in operation for decades.
