Do they really think this bring a friend deal is gonna bring in hoards of people? People are already paying premium prices, are they gonna shell out another $100 just to visit GE?

It could, especially during D23 in August. I have 1 free day in August (the Saturday of D23). We wanted to do the parks but refused to pay $150. With the deal announced, we are going to go. $100 seems manageable, but $150 for DL for a day is nonsense to me.

I expected the gunner to have a joystick as well so they can position the laser on the screen. The engineer is supposed to fix things and not merely push buttons. The engineer is supposed to get a separate screen with diagnostics, etc. Or maybe just put it all on the screen so everyone views the screen and can respond to the actions they see. This won't be a easy fix.

Half of the reviewers want more to do, half of the reviewers want less and to just "enjoy the show". Whatever.

You can't enjoy the show if the gunner and engineer are facing the wall to push buttons. Everyone should look at the screen, which you can't do right now unless you just skip out of doing the role playing and letting the pilots run the show.

I said this the other day in regards to the land but it just seems that they tried to check so many boxes that they forgot to ask the basics like “is this a place people want to visit” or “is this ride fun (for all 6 people)?” Like with the Falcon, they decided to give it the 38 inch height requirement so younger people could ride it. They didn’t give it too much movement so people wouldn’t get motion sickness. Then making it interactive of course added a whole other component which led to a fun ride for 2 people but an awkward distracting ride for the other 4.

I just think sometimes when you re trying to check too many boxes it makes hitting a home run difficult.

I can actually explain that, but to do so you'll have to forgive me that I can't substantiate any of this. And since some of this comes from very early on, if I go into much detail it's pretty easy to track who was talking too much.

When the Star Wars expansion was originally conceived, and I believe this goes all the way until about mid 2014, some of the early concepts for how the land could work is that it would be an homage to all nine films... at the time, the prequels, the original, and the upcoming trilogy which WDI only had limited information about The Force Awakens. Now that all changed in early 2015 when Lucasfilm Story Group became heavily involved in developing a story around the land and requiring that it have a definite point in time that it would exist (although I believe there was some compromise made in that the land was made in such a way it could be changed later). Anyway, one of the early concepts that would have been incredible, but which was scrapped due to Lucasfilm involvement, was that the land was going to have a pod racing simulator. The way it worked was that during the queue, guests would design their pod racer engines a la test track. They would then watch videos on the history of pod racing, get a tutorial on the controls (they operated like a zero-turn lawn mower although turning in reverse was not allowed), and finally they would board a two-seater pod racer craft. One person was the pilot, one person was an engineer -- the engineer was in charge of "repairing" damage, helping build up boost power to the pilot, etc. Once you sat down in the pod vehicle, it appeared that you were in a rusted out hangar, and then the pod was pulled via a metal arm along a track through the hangar door. Beyond the hangar door was a 12 foot diamater horizontal dome 8K screen. This screen would have used proprietary 3D technology James Cameron's company had worked on in the past to create a 3D image without glasses by identifying where the pilot and engineer's eyes are and using limited head tracking technology. Anyway, you got to race against the group that you watched the pre-show videos with, which hadn't been determined, but likely would have been something like 16 pod racers for up to 32 guests.

When it was determined that the expansion would only focus on the sequel trilogy, the pod racer concept was scrapped. However, it was reiterated into a Millenium Falcon ride. Originally, the Millenium Falcon would have been the location for a meet and greet with Chewbacca, C3PO, R2D2, and an undetermined face actor. But with the determination that the Falcon would never be destroyed in any film, it was decided to move the idea of differentiated roles and a simulator video game to the Millenium Falcon cockpit. The problem was, there was no evidence in any of the films that there were more than two roles in the Falcon cockpit, so they did what was necessary to get the gunner and engineer ideas in, even though they weren't canonically correct. Unfortunately, to do a video game simulator well, it would have variable intensity depending on how the simulator is piloted. So, to make sure as many people could ride as possible, they kept the ride on a rail system within the "game" and they introduced a bit of delay between inputs and on-screen effects so that they could mask that the ride will never allow the pilots to go to far with nausea-inducing maneuvers.

I can't speak to the rest of your post, but it is canonical that the Falcon is optimally operated by a team of 4. If you only look to the films then you can see this precedent in Return of the Jedi, where there are crew members working behind Lando and Nien Nunb during the Battle of Endor.

WDI did of course add the third row of seats on Smuggler's Run.

Like lengthing a cruise ship, you just cut off the cockpit and extend it out a bit, right?

Saw this picture on another site and it perfectly sums up everything wrong with SWGE for me. This is why it looks like a George Lucas' depressing salvage yard vs a thriving, exciting place to visit. Have no idea what they were thinking.

George Lucas on a Bench

Hey, now. It doesn't seem George Lucas had anything to do with this land. Lucas has always been an innovator on the cutting edge of technology. I doubt he would ever have gone along with the boring static props dumped all over the place.

I'll offer you this. I don't care for the Disney Star Wars movies. I don't like the new characters and I was happy to not see any of them in the ride and various buildings I walked swiftly in and out of. The one character that is featured, Hondo, a guy I had no idea who he was, I actually liked. He felt like a real Star Wars character. Come to find out he's a Lucas era creation.

Ha - Only used George's name for the joke, fully aware he wasn't involved in this mess. We actually have a sense of what George would do if he was involved and it was called "Star Tours" that was amazing, fun, whimsical, full of iconic Star Wars music, and left you feeling happy and loving the brand. Which means it was the exact opposite of SWGE.

Ride posts an hour wait right now. A friend is there and they're using the extended queue. First exposure of Galaxy's edge for her is asphalt with tape and shipping containers...

If THAT'S what you're supposed to see if the wait time is at an hour... they gotta do better.

Or maybe they won't have to?
