Lightsaber Hilt Pieces Now Being Sold Separately As “Scrap Metal” at Savi’s Workshop in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge

So you made reservations and got to build your own, custom lightsaber with the help of the Gatherers at Savi’s Workshop in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. You’re probably proud of your creation, but over time, you may want to further customize it. Maybe you’ve communed with other sides of the force and would like to meld both styles together.

Well, luckily, the Gatherers are open for business (well, except when the First Order is around) and are now selling separate lightsaber hilt pieces at Savi’s Workshop. How do you go about purchasing them? It’s easy. Just walk up and ask for “scrap metal.”

The pieces cost $19.99 each and you can have your pick from any of the four themes available.

This is honestly really sad to look at. Clearly something is wrong here and Disney needs to fix it.

First, off not sure we should trust that source. Since they made droid depot look bad, but the reason it’s like that is because they are out of customizing pieces apparently. Secondly, it’s an amazing STAR WARS themed land, I’m not sure I buy it’s that empty...what would make it this empty?

I honestly don't understand... This is a brand new ride based on one of the biggest franchises in history. Is it really just not that good? I was never that excited for the Falcon ride, but this makes no sense to me.

Not that I want Tatooine (I'd much rather have a more tropical Batuu), but since immersion isn't the goal I don't see how rain is a problem.

Falcon is the longest line in the resort today, occasionally only tied with Radiator Springs Racers. Almost all of the major attractions at both parks have been sitting around 20 minutes all day. It’s just dead. Between blackouts and raising prices Disney did too good of a job managing the crowds. Give it a few weeks, they won’t let it last long.

Let's just cut to the chase. Are you suggesting the photos posted in that Tweet from this afternoon are faked? Are you suggesting that the information from multiple sources the past 48 hours about 30 minute or less wait times for the Falcon ride are part of a grand conspiracy?

The photos speak for themselves. There are more CM's in those photos than paying visitors.

But seven years ago in late June 2012 when Cars Land was a few days old, it was impossible to take a photo of the land that didn't include a sea of people.

I can only imagine the level of panic that has swept over TDA's executive suites by midweek here.

Maybe it’s more so that I’m in shock...their isn’t anything wrong with the land...it’s not like it’s bad or anything. I’m more baffled that it’s empty everything has been done right...what gives?

Ah, okay. It is shocking. I'm shocked myself. No one could have predicted this (except @Phrubruh).

I've been an observer of Disneyland and Disney theme parks online for decades. I've never seen anything like this. Even minor new land makeovers (Pixar Pier '18, WDW New Fantasyland '13) and random D Ticket openings (Little Mermaid '11) generated dramatically more opening excitement and crowds than Star Wars Land has.

I think we are all trying to formulate our thesis over what went wrong this week. My opinion is that their defensive marketing message, grounded in sheer panic from the operational folks, really messed them over. Don't Show Up Without A Reservation! Reservations Were All Booked Out A Month Ago You Slowpoke! If You Don't Stay At The Disneyland Hotel You Are Worthless Trash! Now Use The Virtual Queue! Download the App.... Uh, Never Mind. It's Open! Ahora! No lines. Did we mention the new summer Churro flavors in Cars Land?

Eventually they'll be able to get out from underneath that messy marketing message and move on. I also think there is some merit to the opinions that creating a planet no one saw in any movie, plus focusing on the latest Virtue Signaling and heavy movies of 2015-2019 instead of the lighter and wittier movies of 1977-1982 puts a thematic pall over the place.

The reviews for the one ride open have been good but not groundbreaking. This is not Indiana Jones in 1995 when the buzz in SoCal was "Oh my gosh, you've got to get to Disneyland for that incredible new ride they have!" nor is it Radiator Springs Racers in 2012 when the buzz online was the exact same excitement.

Getting the Resistance ride open, which apparently is still months away, should give them a good shot at re-launching this place. A big do-over, if you will. And then we'll probably be complaining about the huge crowds again come November.

It's all highly speculative. My feeling after going through a few times is that the land wasn't actually ready to open and they just opened it anyway. I'm not just talking about Ride of the Resistance but all the other boring static areas that don't have anything going for them, even ambiance. It's like they just cut all the cool features out and said, "Eh, just park some props there and it's good to go!"

Here’s the question:

Would it have been better to hold off on opening the land until Rise was ready?

I think it's obvious that the Resistance ride is still months away. If it was only a matter of weeks, a choice between May 31st without Resistance or June 28th with Resistance for example, then it would have been better to wait until late June.

But it's obvious they know something they won't admit publicly, that the Resistance ride is months behind schedule with serious flaws to overcome.

Realizing that, they really had no option but to go ahead and open the rest of the finished land. I can't blame them for that, and it was the right business decision to make at the time. Especially because no one except @Phrubruh could have predicted what's happened this week with the collapse in attendance.

The good news is the reports of selling out of merch.

For Disney, that is, not the consumer.

Or maybe it's good news for the consumer in the end. They really didn't need a sourvenir set of faux rancor tooth cups in a faux wooden stand for $80.

Yeah...when I go I was hoping to get a saber, droid, all kyber, and a holocron. Hope stock is plentiful reminds me of the banshees. Savi’s is now selling individual “scrap” pieces.

I’m not sure how serious the flaws actually are, things really tend to get blown out of proportion. Obviously they are behind schedule, I’ve heard things like the internet on the cars was being disrupted (I’m serious). From the simulated drop, isn’t working correctly.

I wouldn’t call the areas “static” this land oozes character. I’m extremely happy with how it turned out.

I’m sure they will be VERY CAREFUL with the marketing message they send with the WDW one. The land will pick back up...can’t believe I have to say that about a Star Wars land that was done literally perfect. Hope this doesn’t send the wrong message to Disney...rise will definitely help.

I think a large part of it was the internet scared people away. If you keep repeating a message enough, people will believe it as common knowledge even it's not true. It is just like the '84 Los Angeles Olympics. The news said the freeways would be packed and the streets would be clogged. Dogs and cats living together. Mass hysteria. Everyone left town and it was the best summer ever. Freeways were empty. Advertising a message no matter how wrong it is works.

WDW is a different case because you have captive tourists that must see everything. They may stay away thinking DHS is packed and fill the other parks though.

I’m an east coast guy so less familiar with the details around DL APs, but did the openings of Indy and Carsland have AP blackouts too? Could the crowds be down based on those blackouts? I know if I paid as much as an AP costs I wouldn’t be shelling out another $100+ for a 1 day ticket especially when the headliner attraction is still not open yet.

On a selfish note I’m taking my kids to DLR for the first time in August. Any chance these low crowds hold out that long? I think the AP blackouts are still in place then, but have they lifted them in the past if crowds were down?

Because it ain't done yet? I'm not going until Rise of the Resistance is open and working, and trying to decide if maybe this is the year to give Florida a shot....but....I don't know why....but the period between Flag Day/Father's Day and July 4th weekend has been magic for my family at Disneyland. Seriously, we get there before rope drop in that time frame and just have the run of the place. Got in line for the Jungle Cruise....except there wasn't one. This was our 2nd anniversary back in 2009. Went to the Grand Canyon and Disneyland. We're at Disneyland in 2009 in the morning and just walked onto everything. Poor CM on the Jungle Cruise had to do the whole spiel. Only my wife and I on board, like some private tour. We got off and I heard the CM shout, "Hey, you ever load just two?"

I don't know what it is about this time of year at Disneyland and I probably should be keeping my mouth shut, because this has happened twice -- 2009 and in 2014, but this gap before the Fourth of July? Right after Grad Night? We knocked out every ride in Fantasyland, Adventureland, New Orleans Square and had early lunch at Blue Bayou and knocked out Critter Country and Tom Sawyer's Island before noon (edit...we used Tom Sawyer's Island to dry off from Splash Mountain....still before noon....I got soaked. Always do on these water rides. I'm not even fat or large or anything, I'm 210-220 on a bad day and 5'10"...damn water rides always find me, and I get soaked).
