Outside of maybe my first visit I never notice the sound of the invisible ships taking off. Does it happen throughout the land?

I’ve only noticed it in the First Order area, and near the Cantina, and the Falcon. Basically through the ship port region.

It’s actually incredible. The sound of a spacecraft physically tracks hundreds of feet though the walkways. It actually sounds like a ship if taking off or landing just out of sight. The skill to achieve such an effect must be applauded...

...But I hold my applaud until they active the land with John Williams gorgeous motifs.

Another imagineer mentions the smells and other tactile items we’ll encounter.

What happened to all of that?

How easy it would have been to add a spice market or a pop up candy stall that sold unusual candy. All that research they did i doubt they didn't bump into one of the many , spice, candy, candle and food stalls that are found scattered all over these open air markets in Morrocco and similar places. Make the place feel alive and give guests the feel of a real exotic place. They really needed to take it a step forward and really pull out of the theme park realm, i think people would really enjoy the change.

That large wide walkway that nestled on the south side of the market area can and should be an extension of a market area. Turn the area into a festival place similar to what they do in DCA but minus the wooden stalls - instead add some themed stalls that not only sell merchandise but also food snacks that can be prepared quickly and sold there. Add some small standing room tables and make-shift shelves. The whole place could be a step up from the vibe that Adventureland gave with the Bengal bar-b-que and nearby stalls that existed in what are now stroller areas. make the stalls intimate

When i saw the rise of skywalker the other day, the one scene with the festival seemed like something that should be replicated in SWGE. Imagine how much energy it would add to the land, this whole area should have been the new Orleans of SWGE.

The ship take off sounds and sound effects were much louder when I went opening week, vs any other time I've been. Now it's not as impressive since it's so quiet. There used to be a constant low bass rumble throughout the entire land opening week as well since speakers were so loud.

Which version do you prefer?

I actually wish that scene had been longer. The whole festival reminded me of the Holi color festival in India. It is something that once you experience you can not forget and want to keep reliving.

It’s interesting. Thinking back the festival was probably was one of my least favorite scenes. I didn’t care for the design of the elephant people. Come to think of it outside of the Mon Calamari and Ewoks, I don’t think I dig the design of many of the “animal” looking species in Star Wars. Its not the design so much as when they are portrayed in large numbers. Because I love Chewie but I don’t like seeing 5,000 of him at the same time. Something about it takes me out of the story.

Not to mention the lame "it happens every 42 years" line - Good lord JJ, does the word subtlety mean anything to you? Look he said 42!!!! Star Wars opened 42 years ago!!!! God he sucks.

The opening version. The sound design was amazing and it was a huge part of the experience. now it's barely noticeable. It was super loud before and sounded great, just like how a Star Wars movie should be.

You would constantly hear battles going on in the background (both ground and space battles) and ships taking off and crashing with amazing clarity.
So it is total carnage outside this bombed out little village. People and aliens are being blown up and things being destroyed just outside our view at Disneyland. When I think Disneyland, I always think death and destruction.

How can that work though? An occasional ship taking off maybe but battles? So we re hearing battles but seeing nothing but a huge empty walkway. In NOS and Frontierland when I hear trains and boats I can actually see them too. Now obviously battles and flying ships are harder to accomplish but why for 5 years y’all about this being the most immersive land ever when it’s not even as immersive most of the lands in the same park? My first trip in June was the most weird. Being herded through from Critter Country and just coming upon closed door after closed window after closed door. It had to be the worst possible way to enter the land.

Disneyland should be about abused orphans and absolute monarchical dictatorships and frontiersmen who would never ever use their guns and natives in far off exotic lands lopping off and shrinking heads of other human beings.

I have to wonder how much of the hate put on GE is related to expectations and what Disney originally talked about. It seems that most of the vitriol put on the land is by the hardcore fan who were paying attention from the beginning. Those who knew little to none going in seem to be enjoying themselves. If Disney took a Universal approach and just opened the land without the constant updates by official and non official sources, it would have been much better received imo.

As far as comparing it to NO Square and immersion, I suppose it depends how you define it. The kinetic energy in NO Square is unmatched, however you know you are in a theme park. You can see the other lands and other DL landmarks. There is maybe one or two places you can see other parts of the park. Otherwise you are completely surrounded by the land and to me feels like a real world environment. I believe that is what they meant and under that definition they succeeded.

Don't forget pirates, murderous brides, children raised by apes or sold into slavery and made to sing a song over and over again.

When I'm in New Orleans Square, Fantasyland, Frontierland, or Main Street USA, I'm immersed inside Disneyland, which is much preferable to being immersed inside a war town desert.

I believe we should, as a community, hold Disney to their word.

It’s lkke buying a car from a salesman, who sells you specific color, brand, miles per gallon, ect only to discover you just bought a Toyota Yaris.

If Disney didn’t cheat us, didn’t tell us anything, I think I’d still be disappointed.

I was there during the opening reservation month and itis true that you could hear sounds of ships turning on and then occasionally see them smoke and rattle. You would also here other noises as well as animal sounds but never did i hear battle sounds anywhere in the land.

The noises which were and are still impressive are the sounds of the occasional flying ship.

For me, it's the scale and particular IP - if this was a tiny $50M area based on Bedknobs and Broomsticks, our expectations would be low. This is a billion dollar, 14 acre, largest in park history expansion that required rerouting the ROA about the Star Wars universe by Disney that was heralded as the new standard of theme park entertainment. This is also our last chance in our lives to ever see a Star Wars land at this scale and that is why this is such a disappointing misfire. So yes, based on that, excuse me if not I'm impressed by a lone robot turning turning a spit and R2D2 plugged into a wall.

(BTW, I would totally love a $50M area themed to Bedknobs and Broomsticks)

The comparison makes no sense. A car is a finished product. They are talking about a land that is still in the design phase when Disney was talking about it. All lands/rides are altered in the design phase as well as the construction phase. Disney should really stop talking about their projects so far in advance when things aren't locked.

At its core I am really trying to understand the hatred. I've been to every Disney park and every Universal park in the world along with countless others. There is no doubt in my mind that GE is one of the best themed lands in the world. It is not even close to perfect, but no land is. My best guess is that a lot of it revolves around the expectations that Disney gave it. Expectations that no land could live up.
