I know you're joking about the defenders of Galactic Starcruiser getting paid, but I'm never a believer of conspiracy theories. Almost always with messes like this, it's just people with bad instincts doing stuff poorly thus and only have the ability to plan and look out into the future about 30 days in advance.

Sometimes the stuff people do is great because the people in charge are inherently talented and brilliant with their finger instinctively on the pulse of the cultural zeitgeist (Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, Walt Disney, Charles & Ray Eames, Julia Child, Berry Gordy, William Boeing, Elon Musk, etc.) and sometimes the stuff people do is mostly crap (Kathleen Kennedy, Bob Chapek, whoever was in charge of CNN+, whoever was in charge of New Coke, etc.)

All that said, the defenders of the Galactic Starcruiser make me scratch my head and think "Just how low are their standards exactly? How are they so blind to the important missing details here that they can't see this is a messy mess? How low can they go???" 🤔
How much are you getting paid to say that?

Before this started, people were predicting it would fail. And yet, it's still going.

When people saw that dates months ahead weren't 'filled', they said it's failing. And yet, those dates filled up and it's still going.

When people saw that dates months ahead weren't 'filled', and, starting in October, weren't filling up, they said it was failing. And yet, it's still going.

When people now see a dozen cruises canceled for the summer, they're saying it's failing. And yet, it's still going and still taking reservations for months ahead of time.

Eventually, they may be right. But their history is being failures themselves at gauging how this is going.
Sometimes I read the things you write and think to myself that it must be a bit.

If it’s not a bit I have to respect it. At least you stand up for what you believe.

Again, I've said that it's likely that the Starcruiser will run out of whales in the hope prices will come down so that I can enjoy it. I'm not going into long term debt to go. That sounds extremist to you?

Which is different from "Hah! It's failing!!" And doesn't that sound extremist since these people have been predicting failure now for a year and it hasn't happened yet?

People are just mad that their unfounded hyperbolic statements are challenged and not met with a chorus of "here here's!"

People who can't make or understand nuanced positions are the ones who are a bit... much.

Just a reminder that people are defending this:

This is failing. Big time lol.

No, it's clearly obvious what it is as that clip plays out for several minutes, regardless how the dance will be used in the lounge later.

It's not luxury. It's not Star Wars. And it's a failed attempt at being "immersive" for both of those concepts.

I get it, for the fans/cheerleaders of Galactic Starcruiser this kind of stuff is embarrassing to have shown publicly. But this is a big reason why the concept is struggling as a high priced concept that fails miserably at "luxury" and is questionable at "Star Wars".

Well said my good sir. 100% spot on!

They’ll have to do something…it will be interesting to see how far they go to save face?

If you can’t book this 365 days a year - then it’s lipstick on the swine. There’s no way to spin it that has any validity.

The easiest thing to do is a retheme and try again…but even that may be too late.

Disney has simply grossly mismanaged this IP since day one. One of their most vocal shade tossers has been mark hamill…
If the core hero ain’t on your side…you’ve lost.
And If that’s not proof…check the box office charts. Bit of a pattern.

I don't think retheme is that easy. If the idea is to keep things all impressive, you can't just retheme the cruiser and then head to Batu, you'd need that done as well (I know your thoughts on that). I think the easiest is to just lower the price. I'd guess there's almost no chance they couldn't cut this by 50% or more and still make money with all the current offerings.

It's mainly that no one cares about the Disney Star Wars trilogy. No one cares about the terribly written trash stories. No one cares about the characters. Kathleen Kennedy has truly lost Disney billions of opportunity cost because of the terrible movies.
Imagine the new life it would breathe into this project if they opted to retheme to the original trilogy.

Are you saying that line dancing lesson was impressive theming?

We’re gonna see…

I don’t think they’ll retheme it…I don’t think they’ll board it up…they can’t integrate it into the park…

Their go to option will be to discount it some and dig in.

But my guess is that fundamentally Star Wars fans don’t want this. Period. And that’s who you need. I’m not even sure that kinda fan will continue to replenish over time? I mean…the sheen is off that gem in a lot of ways. It’s really cheapened. Less actually ended up to be more…contrary to what we all thought.

None of what we say here matters. Disney under Bob the builder doesn’t care. They’ll do what they’ll do. Critics will criticize and diehards will defend.

Can they discount it and still run it as is? We're all assuming that they're making an obscene amount of profit on this because of the little rooms, the general lack of attractions within the hotel, and the college program labor, but maybe there's an expense here we're not thinking about, like the actors?

(I also think that weirdly a cheaper experience will invite more criticism, because the kind of person who pays $6k is going to say it's good because they're a super fan and they don't want the super pity of others for spending $6k on a subpar experience. $3k, it becomes normal and you can leave a three star review if there are things you just didn't like.)

I think there’s two problems there:

1. Many assume it was gonna be “a gold mine”…and I don’t think that ever was the case. They run much narrow margins on lodging than people think.
2. They won’t want to discount it too much because it’s admitting defeat for a regime that has gotten very comfortable never admitting mistakes.
