Out of curiosity what were the dinner time options? 8pm seems late for families with younger kids.
There are 2 dinner times. 5:30 and 8pm. I and I assume most others with children went for the 5:30. My son would be fine eating and staying up late even though he is on the younger side, but many would want to be asleep. However there is also some sort of fireworks or light show at night that a lot of people would be up for anyway.

Umm... as was said. If anyone arrives before check in time, they are bussed to Disney Springs.

If you're in a car (you're own or a rental) you could just drive over to DS and hang out until it's check in time.

If you arrive via shuttle or taxi or Uber before check in time (for example, your plane landed in the morning), they take your luggage and bus you to Disney Springs.

BUT... if you arrive in your own car at the right time, it's valet parking.

I think you're overthinking this.

I think you completely missed the opening line. Parking chokepoint. You aren't going to be able to convince people to show up in a short time window to park. If you are driving, why would you show up so early to want to be bussed elsewhere? So they will have a choke point problem with parking. They have a smaller curb than any of the hotels, and yet will be processing everyone in a small period of time.

Imagine waiting for the valet to get 100 cars at once.

They are going to have to diffuse that load in and load out by spreading people out.

I've always assumed you'll never see any daylight between the loading area the the vehicle. Either that flat area with something pushed up against it, or the protruding square with a collared connection around it.

Sure, but the lack of theming surrounding the door suggests a need to have a much smaller surround abutting the vehicle. That's what stood out to me.

Doesn't look airlock at all.. so hopefully there are other structures that will replace this things view from this side. But then why the basic themeing? Just not seeing the concept they are going for there yet...

If they did that, the price for the Starcruiser would probably quadruple (or more).

It just wouldn't be worth building something like that for the very small number of Starcruiser guests without dramatically increasing the price.

Then you can rotate the itineraries. You wouldn't need the entire park fully staffed just for the Starcruiser; just have one self-contained land at a time.

Folks can then book their Starcruiser experience based on what the port of call would be.

March 7-9: Coruscant - Enjoy an evening excursion to the planet's famous clubs and casinos. Just be wary of unsavory characters that lurk in the shadows, from mere pickpockets to no-nonsense Bounty Hunters. Yet even in the darkness, there can be light....

March 10-12: Dantooine - Quiet, peaceful, serene. Yet the Jedi Enclave contains a galaxy's worth of secrets; are you intrepid enough to discover them?
Lightsaber training, plus the Enclave would feature plenty of hidden rooms and passageways with unique escape-room-style puzzles to truly follow the Path of the Jedi.

They are going to have to diffuse that load in and load out by spreading people out.
People who aren't driving in at the exact check-in time are comprised of:

1. People coming from the airport in a rental car all morning with no other hotel reservation that day. They are at the mercy of their flight times. They could go to DS and hang out and then drive over to the starcruiser 'port.' But some will be arriving first at the port in the morning. So, valet parking all morning and early afternoon for them.
2. People coming from the airport in a taxi/Uber/shuttle. So, no car to valet park at all.
3. People who are in a hotel in the WDW area and have to check out by 11 AM and have their own car or rental. So, valet parking all morning and early afternoon.
4. People who are in a hotel in the WDW area and have to check out by 11 AM and have no car. So, no car to valet park at all.
5. People driving into Orlando who made good time and are early. So, some of them will use valet parking throughout the morning and early afternoon.

That's a significant amount of self-diffusing.

Dinner time wise 8pm seems late. Or maybe it's just because we usually eat sometime between 5:30-6:00pm. With lunch buffet stopping at 4pm, 8pm is for me particularly a long time between.
No kids here, so we chose the later dinner assuming it would be an older scene. Like any other cruise (or trip to WDW), we’ll likely fill the foodless void with alcohol.

That's even less likely, though. Then Disney would be spending hundreds of millions of dollars for stuff that was only accessible to a small number of people.

It's a great idea but if Disney was going to build more Star Wars locations they would absolutely want as many people as possible there buying things. They wouldn't spend that kind of money on something that was going to sit empty for days at a time.

you can't just hang out - you don't have a ticket. You get into DHS as part of the trip VIA the themed transport. You'd have to buy a separate ticket and get a reservation. Who is going to do that? Guests with cars, who arrive early, are "supposed" to check-in, drop off luggage, then take the regular bus to Disney Springs and hang out until anytime between 1-4pm, come back and board.

I'm sure it's road worthy. But box trucks are traditionally loud vehicles with a lot of engine noise and are very rough riding. Choosing that type of vehicle to simulate smooth space flight just doesn't inspire confidence. Seems like the immersion could be broken on this extremely easily.

Disney may be dumb sometimes, but I don’t think their going to put guests in an unsafe vehicle. I’d bet significant modifications were made to the box for safety we can’t see. Also now they can just rechassis the box when the vehicle gets worn out. It’s common with specialty vehicles (like ambulances) where the chassis gets heavy use, but the box has more life.

Yes, agreed.

It doesn't matter what the truck looks like from the outside driving across the CM parking lot to Galaxy's Edge. Because none of the paying passengers inside will ever see it, or even know they are in a box truck. They'll only see the entry door and a foot or two of "ship's hull" around the door as they board and disembark.

I imagine the industrial suspension of the box truck is also able to handle whatever equipment and interior shell they've loaded it with to create the shuttlecraft ride experience happening inside. A box truck, outfitted with upgraded suspension, has a much higher gross vehicle weight rating than a standard half ton pickup, or shuttle bus, or even full ton pickup truck.
