I think we’ve all come around to the fact that if it comes down to it, Disney will cut the already minimal entertainment & extras that make it an “experience” and just make it a Star Wars hotel with things like Lightsaber training, sending the ship into hyperspace, etc, being an up charge.
Sure. Kind of like a themed niche B&B.

Seeing as he is Star Wars portfolio manager I would guess he was in the meetings. Don't know about lead on this part though

Agreed, but this feels like he isn't the lead on this one because IMO he seems to usually have a much better grasp on things from the other projects he's done, both for Universal and Disney parks. Also, he's usually the one to promote things he's the lead of on twitter, video, etc. but haven't seen him discuss this.

The trick will be ensuring guests experience important story elements but in a way that feels at least a bit organic, and not scheduled.

How do you let someone know they need to be in a certain place at a certain time because they need to defend the ship from an attack, without it feeling contrived?

I say upend guest expectations by waking them up at 3am to fight off a First Order invasion. No reason the bad guys wouldn't attack at an inopportune time...
Disney Play app. They've been pushing that your itinerary will be on the app. It will no doubt ding and notify you of upcoming events.

Based on the negative feedback from the commercials, they will be adding a new feature...
"Eject Bob Chapek into space" simulator.

Passengers will dress up as Resistance X-Wing pilots, capture Bob, and 1 lucky kid will get to push the ejection button to dump him into space.

Hopefully this fails fast enough that they can retheme it to "Pigs in Space" in time for my 2023 trip...
You’re talking my language now! Sign me up!

Unless they are hiding a whole lot and showing us the worst of the worst and the cheapest of the cheap, lipstick won’t help this pig. So why not turn it in to an actual pig theme? :hilarious:

Disney badly struggles with what to do with the Muppets fairly often as well, but Great Moments in History and the Haunted Mansion movie proved they can figure it out sometimes.

Imagine eating dinner and the attack happens right there.. "OH common Vader, not infront of my salad!!!"

When the little girl presses the button even before the cast member could finish asking if they should spare Bob from being ejected.

Not terrible? Look at the background! Look at her face? What species is that?! She is holding a iphone...in STAR WARS!!. Not terrible my butt!
From what I understand voyagers interact with the “datapad” on the Disney play app throughout the stay to get messages from crew etc They make it known you need to have that installed for the trip. Seems like a playful nod to the reality smartphones will be used by everyone on board the cruiser “in Star Wars”. Just a guess. Also what’s wrong with the background?

You know what really bugs me about the buttons on the bridge and the buttons on Smuggler's Run also, like this is a big pet peeve I have had for a while, when they push a button it sounds soo fake and plastic. Like a video game button at an arcade. In the films whenever a button is hit it never has that plastic feedback sound. The button actually does something and makes a noise of some kind. But here it sounds like a plastic button. And it annoys the hell out of me. Even the lightspeed throttle on Smuggler's Run has that plastic sound.

Bleh. I was hoping this would be more like an actual cruise where you can explore the ship and such at your leisure. But with 100 rooms you have to figure on about 400 people going through at any one time and there aren't enough places on the ship for all those people to randomly explore on their own unlike a regular Disney Cruise. There's only a handful of places you can go on-board, Bridge, engineering, training room, dining hall, lounge, "holodeck", so it's going to have to be a controlled experience at all points so, yeah, it's going to have to be through the smartphone. (Ding - time to go here!) (Ding - time to go there!)

I forget - was there an actual observation deck on the "ship"? I don't recall seeing one on the map. The lounge art looks all enclosed with only a few windows to space. if so that's another missed opportunity.

That's harsh reality - in the movies they're plastic switches too but in post production they'll add the sounds in. It's also a generational thing as most people these days work with touch screen interfaces or cheap plastic keyboards on their laptops and don't realize that interfaces like that can greatly affect their experience. On the flip side just playing a "beep" and "boop" whenever you press a cheap plastic control button is going to be even more toy piano like.
If anything they should've just mimicked the falcon's actual cockpit which itself was setup to mimick an airline cockpit with mechanical switches and relays.
huh... speaking of which... Was there a yoke on that bridge?! How do you steer?
