Really? That’s interesting. I didn’t realize you had check in/check out on a specific day. Do you have to be in the hotel at certain times to experience certain things? Like dinner theater?

We don't know this for sure, but it is one possible method of operation.

You will be immersed in Star Wars start to finish. You won't be catching a bus to go see fireworks at the mk for example.

Again, we do not know this for sure. There are some people who think this is going to be a "captive" experience. Personally I believe it will be a little more open, but of course you will get the most for your money if you play along with the experience.

Correct.

I see “positive vibe supposition as fact” has taken hold on this...as it did on the land discussion immediately.

Case in point: go look at the land discussion from 2015 and bottom page one is: “this new planet idea is genius”

Depends on the price...

He specified AoA pricing. Disney would lose money if they operated a boutique 100 room resort at their 'value' pricing. So yes, it depends on the price. And the pricing in the example was what I commented on. Nothing else.

Correct.

Are you going as far to say that even 'Batuu' is a mistake now? Should they have used Naboo?

IMHO, all I hear and see is Cash Grab with anything Star Wars now.

Oh yes, the franchise that literally invented merchandising and NOW all you see is cash grab? Only when Disney does it, right? Not the prior 35+ years of Lucas taking almost every merchandising opportunity he saw.

I think we will finally get a lot of this settled at D23. Going by their normal hotel build schedule, this will easily be open in 2021, if not end of 2020, so they have to get the information out there at some point.

QUESTION 2
Are you going as far to say that even 'Batuu' is a mistake now? Should they have used ******* Naboo?
STATEMENT 1 REACTION
What I meant is $1000 a person a night would flame out within months. By the way...AoA prices are the most overpriced on property...a rather dubious distinction.

So it is a matter of perspective.

QUESTION 2 REACTION And the non-decript planet was a bad idea from the start. What’s with this “now”? Though I don’t believe I ever voiced the concern because I was attempting to be fair/reserved until it was built. And now the gates are open to Jerusalem.

Naboo? No...right ballpark, wrong section. You’re up in the 400 level and I’m down in the diamond club.
CONDESCENSION 3

CONDESCENSION 3 REACTION: They invented cash grab because the movies were the biggest, most cutting edge, possibly most impactful movies ever made in a key cultural and economic window in western history.

None of the applies now. The grading standards and requirements are a “sliding scale”

STATEMENT 4 RESPONSE
And they don’t have a “standard” timeline for construction anymore...they have not built a “stand alone” hotel with full services since the first half of pop and the Caribbean combined service building was constructed in 2001-2002. With dakl being the better example just prior.

Mikey built hotels...bob puts timeshare bandaids on the side of them

You needed to pull the head out of the sand to read it though...that’s a start

We’ll work on “context” tomorrow...as all things lead directly Back to your quotes...which believe it or not I mostly agree with.

Then it had to go “rian Johnson” whiney and all

At any rate, I think this will be an interesting... Experiment. Will they get customers? Sure. Will it sell out - especially on the long term? As mentioned, "depends on the price." If this does pan out for Disney, I wouldn't be surprised to see more of this style of entertainment/lodging, specials events and other stuff pop up around it. Basically, if it makes money - MOAR!

I know an awful lot of people who are planning to book this hotel based on the presumed LARP concept, even at the very high guesstimated pricing. I think it will be booked solid for the first couple of years, but I honestly can't see it maintaining that for more than 2 years unless there's enough variable content that it attracts repeat customers.

I just can't help but think this is too small of a niche market to be viable long-term. And I could also be 1,000,000% wrong and this is hard to book for years and years to come.

Thinking about it more, I'd like it to be just successful enough to keep around, because the concept seems cool, but not successful enough to warrant a bunch more popping up.

My take on this is that this will appeal to a whole new demographic. The Star Wars mega fans, the ones who frequent Star Wars forums, play the MMO games but have zero interest in Disney. My DH happens to love WDW but he is very active on several such sites. The minute this was announced by Disney, these guys and gals were saying “take my money”. Money is no barrier here. If they make this an interactive, immersive experience with sufficient LARPing content, they will tolerate the kids and casual fans as best they can in order to do it.

I would think one idea that we discussed last year would work. Every month, they run a full-on LARPing experience, where the level of immersion is significantly upped. With a warning that would deter your average WDW family who also like Star Wars. They could increase the price, even double it, and these fans would flock to it.

I'm now having serious doubts as to the degree of which this hotel will mimic a murder mystery experience.
I'm basing this on the lack of characters in GE right now.
Unless things change, I'm thinking small Star Wars themed hotel - just as the land is themed and little more.

This would be my concern also. To do this properly would require a good number of entertainment CMs and we all know how Disney likes to cut them from the parks.

Yep. If they don't do this right and make sure they have enough entertainment, they run the risk of looking like Great Wolf Lodge with their wand game (in which there's always multiple major components broken).
