Just a tad of oversimplification

1. How much we charging?
2. What’s happens with the franchise?
3. What happens if the two week fever in Anaheim -and later Orlando - subsides before the Hotel shows?

All legit. We can fantasize that Star Wars is “better than ever”....but thats completely incorrect...so we need to look at it from somewhere in the middle ground

Wait... I thought the current marketing slogan was, "Now, more than ever!"? ;)

I honestly believe TPTB view SW as a money-making machine, and no amount of meddling on their part can harm it. It's an amazing show of hubris.

One could apply the same to Universal with HP, the latest movie was critically mixed and made a lot less than the first and yet Universal just opened a new coaster that is getting great word of mouth and the lands are still as popular as ever. Add this to the fact that arguably the HP fandom is smaller than the Star Wars fandom and I think Disney will be okay!

Right down the middle of the plate...I was gonna use this as an example.

Say they announce new tent pole potter movies (one a year) - start off good and have controversy and then a a bomb...

So then major vendors like hasbro and LEGO report a decline of half of product ordered...

Then warner announces a “reset” to tentpole movie development and instead tv is the “best place” to develop new content for years...

So now Potter is in the soup with Star Trek and ...other run of the mill franchises.

Would Comcast then plan/expect and uptick in Potter consumption on kirkman drive? Is that “making the sense good”?

But I think Star Wars will be fine since they will continue to do both theatrical (isn't the D&D movie going to be theatrical, correct me if I'm wrong) and Streaming service. The star wars show will have a leg up being on Disney's streaming service which will attract a lot more people than say CBS all access is right now. The problem with Star Wars is its actually very limited with what you can do, since people will be expecting some form of the familiar, Tie fighters, MF, Stormtroopers, etc. Potter is even more limited since the original stuff revolved solely around the HP character. That is what will be Universal's struggle down the road, relating everything back to HP, which is different from Disney's problem of just continuing to keep Star Wars as a whole in the zeitgeist.

1) Doesn't matter
2) Doesn't matter
3) Doesn't matter

Cantina filled up within the first few minutes of each block.
Lightsabers filled up within the first 15 minutes of each block.
$100 droids flying out the door like they are going to do your chores.
The creature carrier boxes literally everywhere.
The ride is great and incredibly themed. Everywhere from the first preshow forward is amazing. And the first time you are Right Pilot and you do 'the thing' - you can't help but laugh in joy.

This is 40+ years of fantasy and daydreams brought to life.

The best way I can describe my first time actually looking around (after I had made the first cantina reservations - I was one track to do that before I looked at anything), the best way I can describe it is an out of body experience.

Oh, and TPTB is The Powers That Be.

I’ll say this: you didn’t hesitate on doubling down.

One question: what day did you go to the “40 years of pent up aggression”?

I’m trying to be somewhat objective here...which i see IS not contagious...

There are those that shout “Star Wars is dead!”
No...that is clearly wrong. It remains a lucrative financial force and valuable asset.

On the other flank: “it’s never been better! All those new fans and everybody loves the movies...except the ones with the most beloved characters!”
Again...completely wrong. No evidence to support that either.

So in the approximate middle...objectivity lurks. And the IP does matter here. Because avatar has been good (different circumstances) without a large fanbase...does not automatically mean Star Wars lands aren’t dependent on IP. I think they are very polar. What they do matters greatly outside the gate.

7th, 8th, and 9th. All the 8am to noon block.
We booked 3 separate 1 night stays to get 3 reservations.

I saw people carrying out literally every legacy saber and a blade for each. One of each creature. Multiple droids.

The lightsaber scrap experience has such a low capacity that it will be filled forever.

And thats not going into the small touches like the interactions between Vi Moradi or Rey and the First Order. I don't want to spoil anything for anyone, so I'll leave it at that.

I went with one person who is a big Star Wars fan, one that isn't that big of a fan but has a little interest, and one that has only seen the movies in passing. Both of the second two loved it, and are already making plans to go back ASAP (they are far more local than I, unfortunately for me).

So you went to all that trouble...well within the space catalogue grand opening timeframe...and that convinces you it will be packed forever??

Might want to look for more polling data beyond the outlier

It will be packed forever because the capacity is low. So yes.

Guests in large numbers will never tire of the immersive experience. Plus the attractions look to be extremely repeatable. Far more than something like the 7D mine train which still has very long wait times.

WDW has 10s of thousands of guests on property. There will always be a sizable percentage that wants to spend time on Batuu. It is a lock.

We did SR about 15 times. Didn't get old at all. I don't think SR will be the limiting factor though - the cantina is the experience that is going to be the chokepoint.

Yeah, it's about 100 rooms, so if we say an average of 3 people per room, and a two day stay that would be about 55K people per year. That shouldn't be hard considering the millions that visit WDW every year.

I meant Batuu, but yes, to bring it back to the Starship resort that will follow the same capacity issue.

I'd love to see them add street food vendors but fear it will always be too crowded for it.

A second "cantina" for families seems necessary though. The current cantina should be age restricted IMO.

I feel like they have some flexibility here. First, I feel like the price will be artificially set high from the start to accommodate the elevated demand giving them the flexibility to lower price over time to draw new visitors while still maintaining acceptable profit margins. That alone I believe would be sufficient to keep the place booked >80% capacity for quite some time. Then, if they still see a drop in demand, the design is flexible enough to make it possible to significantly change the story and therefore significantly change the experience which would attract new guests (maybe make it a story focused on the original trilogy, or the prequel trilogy or Clone Wars... lots of possibilities). And in the event that Star Wars completely drops out of public interest, is it possible that they make the outside of the building so nondescript that they could drop the story aspect and make this a general "space" themed hotel? You drop the story aspect and you can drop the staff substantially dropping operating costs and allowing you to drop the price (if necessary). A highly immersive hotel that makes it seem like you are staying in a space station I believe would/could be popular for decades without needing an IP and if you wanted an IP, you could sprinkle in some Wall*E or some of the more cosmic Marvel characters (assuming they would have worked things out with Universal by that time).

Not saying they'll ever need to do any of that, just that they would have the option...

It was a little strange seeing kids at the bar, but its also strange to be doing a shooter at 8am. If the rumor is true that they cut the sit down restaurant to keep it to Starship exclusive, then theres your second cantina-style experience.
