They're putting Judy Dench in charge of a fully armed and operation battle station?

I recently read this on a discussion thread on the Aint it Cool News website.

"There have been rumors for months of some turmoil behind the scenes of STAR WARS: EPISODE VII...A lot of us have been skeptical that J.J. Abrams was going to meet a Summer 2015 release date, as production has continued to be delayed and is now scheduled to begin next Spring. That is obviously a short window for a film that is going to require a ton of post-production visual effects work. Reportedly though producer Kathleen Kennedy went to Disney CEO, Bob Iger and asked for a release date delay to 2016. He denied her request because they have a big plan with a lot of money involved and moving EPISODE VII's release date would screw it all up."
...

I am curious to hear what the masses think about this.

I read this and was afraid that Kasdan was NOT going to do the screenplay. Based on the original article, he IS going to write it along with Abrams.

WHEW!!! That was a close one!

If we were getting early 80's Kasdan, I'd be more excited. Here's his filmography post-83:

1985Silveradowriter, director, and producer
1988The Accidental Touristwriter, director, and producer
1990I Love You to Deathdirector
1991Grand Canyonwriter, director, and producer
1992The Bodyguardwriter and producer
1994Wyatt Earpwriter, director, and producer
1995French Kissdirector
1999Mumfordwriter, director, and producer
2003Dreamcatcherwriter, director, and producer
2012Darling Companionwriter, director, and producer

Even mid-to-late-80's Kasdan would be good. But from 90-present - meh.

Actually Episode VII and the parks are intertwined in a way that you would not expect. The entirety of Ep. VII will be film at the ASM food court and the partially constructed Pandora which has been declared "similar enough to Endor that it should do for all intents and purposes."

This has zero to do with the parks and should not be in WDW news & rumors
The articles content has nothing to do with theme park tie ins and I get the feeling he just wanted to post the article (which is full of unverified and exaggerated info btw) the question he asks about it concerning the parks is quite a bit of a stretch and the answer is no. The Star Wars stuff for the parks have been going on their own timetable and wether the movie gets delayed or not has no bearing on those projects.

I love it when Timmy puts on his Thrawn makeup and tries to tell us he's better at this. Since you know all, oh grand admiral, please tell us what confirmed sources you would reference and then post into a rumors thread? You wouldn't because rumors are by definition unverified and exaggerated.

When you say:

"The articles content has nothing to do with theme park tie ins and I get the feeling he just wanted to post the article the question he asks about it concerning the parks is quite a bit of a stretch and the answer is no."

...(I removed your definition of rumors, thanks for letting is know what they are)

I'd like to ask how do you know the answer to his question about said rumor? Do you have a source? No? Oh well that's because it's unverified and exaggerated.

Iger wants to go out with a bang. Pushing back Star Wars: Episode VII risks it being released after he has left his current role and somebody else will get the credit for what is almost a sure thing.

This is exactly it.

Like any business, Disney has long term projections. They can bank on EP VII bringing in $1 billion regardless of how good or bad it is and it is undoubtedly part of the projections for their profits and losses for 2015.

Besides, if Iger leaves before that $$$ comes in, then he has a $5 billion expenditure as part of his tenure that hasn't performed. I would bet he also wants a bit of control over the final product as well.

As a fan, this is horrible news. Ep VII HAS to be a hit. If it duds, it brings the whole foundation down with it. They need to spend as much time as it takes to get it right.

Too much depends on this movie being a success. The ramifications ripple through every facet of the company (and for years and years to come). Rushing it shouldn't be an option.

It's also scary because it means the Arndt script (that Abrams and Kasdan are currently rewriting) must be absolute and complete garbage.

I disagree. He's talking about possible theme park tie-ins and it has everything to do with the parks!

I'm guessing this is a joke?

Even if they went in Mellennium Falcon lightspeed, nothing substantial could be completed in the parks by 2015.

2016 would probably be better for the parks if they wanted a tie-in anyway (which is one of the many reasons why Iger turning down the delay has nothing to do with the parks).

I totally agree that they can't screw up Episode 7. Ep 7 is a guaranteed hit (or as close as you can get in Hollywood), but the success of all the SW movies after that really hinges on the quality of Ep7. This is exactly what happened with the prequels. As much as people might have hated Ep1 it is still the highest grossing Star Wars movie, but the box office for Ep2 dropped off significantly.

As for the Arndt script, I don't know we can assume it was garbage. Good article here presents a different view on the writer switch:

As someone in the business I can say with 100% certainty that Episode VII's production schedule is completely unrelated to the rumored theme park additions. Both projects are moving along independently.

And at the bottom of this page an independent confirmation from Bleeding Cool that the Arndt plot is pretty much intact. The re-write will be focused on flow and dialog.

Don't let people here intimidate you. Just expect that to happen and don't let it bother you. Never be apologetic to those people. They don't deserve to be apologized and that does an injustice to the 95% of the rest of us who aren't like them.

Amen.
