Star Trek: Picard (Spoilers)

Episode 3 just sold me completely on this season. As someone who thought DS9 was peak Star Trek, linking back and giving us a sequel bodes well. The Changelings are amazing villains who were fleshed out more than any other, including the fairly one-note Borg.

This season is paced well. My issue with the second season was is started strong, with an action packed premiere and a fun alternate future, then decided they needed eight whole episodes for another 'save the future by fixing the past' storyline.

This season started a bit slower, but has really built to a big revelation in episode 3. We haven't even seen the entire crew yet, yet alone brought them together, so hopefully the best is yet to come.

…I like it. The characters finally have their “flow”…and that’s all we ever wanted. Even Stewart looks not so decrepit.
And won character is just…such a payoff as it stands…love it.

There was never a need to “fix” something so great…
…ahem…Disney can learn a bit more

i loved the line from the 1st episode between riker & picard. something like “your hands are shaky & my knees hurt. we can shoot if we don’t have to stand still.” i’m sure i fudged the line, but it was funny 😂

I did not see the Changelings coming. I don't think anyone had this on their list of villains for the season. But anyone who watched DS9 saw the wobble and knew immediately who the villains were.

I agree, second season felt unnecessary and just kind of the mess. This third season is more what we all wanted from the beginning.

So tongue in cheek. Especially since Jonathan Frakes really has had knee problems for a very long time. Hence this...

Quite a few people thought Riker was "off" in the first episodes and was possibly Thomas Riker. I didn't think they'd go there but now that changelings are in the mix it's very possible that Riker or another character is an imposter.

Between possibly subtle hints and Beverly's "trust no one" warning it's a possible twist. They could also be setting it up as a red herring.

Bringing in Amanda Plummer as the villain is a nice touch as well.

"Beheadings are on Wednesdays"

That line is right up there in the Worf catalog of lines.
Dorn said the angle is Pai Mei from the kill bill movies…
Now I hate tarentino…but I get that reference…

But I can’t help but seeing a take on the Kor portrayal in DS9

John Colicos.

And as we know: ds9 had the most incredible array of supporting characters

I may be wrong on this, but my understanding is the showrunner for this season started off season 2. Then they decided they would shoot season three back to back with it. So he went off to write that after the first few episodes. With the other bunch of idiots taking over season two.

Well that’s typical network stupidity…you just wait…breaking news

Not for me.
There were obvious plot bulldung that made me annoyed.

The ring weapon for example, its clear it has gold "ring" around it when its deployed. This was shown everywhere...
And it magically was transparent just for the very specific area.
Also its my imagination or is LaForge useless as a pilot?
A good pilot in ANY enterprise.. even the fattest starships.. would have manoeuvred to dodge at least some of the torps.
She did not even flinch and kept moving square forwards.

Also the portal scene in this case makes no sense. Since the portal is semi opaque and shows the "other end" it makes zero sense it was perfectly transparent for this plot road.

The other annoyance was.. the lack of phasers.
In the scene I saw.. they only fired a spread of torpedos.. very few for saying "fire them all they got".
Honestly, for a constitution refit more modern than the Voyager.. the ship seems stupidly underpowered.
We did not see phasers firing anywhere.

So either the older captain (the Ricker replacement that got hurt in this episode) was a total moron and didn't train their crew correctly.
Or their crew is incompetent for plot reasons.

The only things that really feel good on this episode.

1) Finally some plot advancement.
2) Finally some real action in both fronts.
3) Worf's line was epic.
4) Most of the scenes were old school and I loved them.
5) Not a fan of the sudden conflict between Picard and Ricker. Kind of weird considering how he was going to go gun-ho in the prior season's finale.
6) The convo between Crusher and Picard.. was damn nice.
7) Wait, the other kid is also dead? ..

The ring's gold outline and visibility might be explained as an flat disk. The video of it destoying the building was from the side. When we saw it used on the Titan it was from the front. Maybe the portal is so thin that it is invisible from a horizontal view.

Wesley is not dead but his mother carries on as if he has moved on from this life because he is with the Watchers and is no longer part of her world.

That was an odd line, because you'd think as a watcher he could visit her wherever and whenever he wanted. He was at the wedding in Nemesis.

Still does not explain the opaque look. In the "battle" part, it was completely window like. Instead of showing the "other side". Which made no sense.

Thats why I imagine they used plot armor to have the Luna class + refit Titan not fire phasers.
Phasers would have definitively affect the portal and reveal its location.

Fair point. I forgot about that. But I seem to remember (maybe I am wrong) in the TNG episode that he left he said that he might not be able to come back for a really long time, if ever. Maybe comeone screwed up on continuity in Nemisis. It was awful and there were a LOT of mistakes on that steaming pile of refuse. :D
