Star Tours vs. Forbidden Journey

I've not seen the new version of Star Tours yet, so my opinion is of the older version, but I think they are 2 different types of rides, no comparision IMO. FB is better than ST.

I haven't experienced the new Star Tours yet, so I can't say. Wait, yes I can say. Forbidden Journey. It's a dark ride, simulator, coaster, and robotic arm attraction all in one. No theme park attraction will ever beat that for me.

Yes
Forbidden Journey - is that the Potterland ride?

If so, that ride made me wanna :hurl: and I'm looking forward to the new Star Tours.

This. Not to say Star Tours 2 is bad. I rode it several times during soft opens last week and loved it. But Forbidden Journey just has so much more to it.

Then again, I'm also a Harry Potter fan, not a Star Wars fan.

I've yet to ride the new Star Tours, but comparing the old one, Forbidden Journey would win.
As bad as this will sound. I think Forbidden Journey had a lot of potential but it just didn't deliver. I fully understand what they were going for, but often times in the ride I could easily pick out things that should have been different, or better. It's almost as if it was rushed, or if they were stumped and figured "this will do".
I've said since I've ridden it, that Disney could have, and would have done it better. I love the concept it's super original and props to Universal for the idea. But, there's always been something to me about the Universal screened rides. They just don't deliver the quality and sharpness that Disney's do. Certain parts of the ride, whether it be moving, or whatever, but I felt as if I was looking through a blurry mask while watching the video segments of Forbidden Journey.

But, overall, Forbidden Journey is winning this currently. I have high hopes for Star Tours, let's see if it can deliver.

If that has anything to do with motion sickness...then you may not want to put your cards on Star Tours until you have ridden it. I have a friend who rode it and said adding the 3-D element to the ride made him sick...unlike the original version.

Either way, both attractions are both worth riding...and even though I have not yet ridden Star Tours 3-D myself, I'm gonna stick with Forbidden Journey as my vote...it's awesome!

Haven't been on either yet but I feel like it's comparing apples to oranges. I think as a whole comparing WDW to Universal isn't possible because people go to both for different reasons.

Not saying one is better or worse they are just different.

That's why I asked a subjective question.

Disney wouldn't have invested the kind of money into that sort of ride system. My roommate works there and he tells me how smart that ride is, and how their evacuation systems are in place (granted no one calls 911) to cycle the ride out using stored battery power that gives enough power to cycle clear the vehicles if the power goes out. All the vehicles communicate to each other and to the ride's computer via wireless connections and they constantly report their degrees of motion to the computer, and if it's off by 2 degrees, the ride stops. I know it has nothing to do with the ride, but it's cool to know the kind of things that go into this. Disney would have most likely built an omnimover (to avoid a height requirement).

I think it is lunacy to say that a 1980's simulator is better than FB. Even though it's 3D and has upgrades it's still just a simulator!

I have not been on either ride. I do think FJ, as America's most state-of-the-art, mindblowing technology ride is clearly one league up from a 3D-fied flight simulator.

Not that I mind. I don't really care for Potter, but I'm a lifelong Star Wars fan. So if Star Tours 2 is only half as good as people say it is it wins hands down for me by default. :D

I grew up with Star Wars, loved it, lived it. Have many a grade school pic rockin' the shirt.

Never really cared for Harry Potter, saw a movie or two, never read the books.

Potter destroys Tour in every possible way, it's not even a contest.

Forbidden Journey, the queue is far better, the ride has many different elements to it that Star Tours could never compete with, and it is original. Star Tours is basically the same ride they had for 20 years with a few enhancements added to it. Nothing about Star Tours 2.0 is original enough to compare to Forbidden Journey. Spiderman will probably even beat Star Tours once the upgrade is finished.
