That is too funny, my husband and I just reserved a room for the 19th yesterday just cause we felt like going. My kids about flipped. Gotta love tax season! You could call and check on a room on property, but we had a hard time getting one. AS Sports seemed to have a few. That is where we ended up.

Our December '03 trip we got a wild hair and decided we needed a Disney fix. Called down early evening that day and made reservation for the next day at AKL. It was actually one of the most magical trips so far.

You certainly don't need our permission and no one here is going to sway you NOT to go, so....GO FOR IT! I wish we lived so close that we could do something like that! I'm green with envy. :D

Because of the jobs my wife & I have, it's hard to just get up and go. There are things I do at my job no one else does (which isn't to say they're great things to do, haha), and my wife is a teacher. So we're pretty much relegated to summer, Creaster and the occasional long weekends.

GO FOR IT!! I am so envious! I just think that you should call DIsney and stay on property....There might be an opening at one of the values you can slip right in to. GOOD LUCK!

I have always wanted to do a trip like that. I have tried to get real cheap airfare to fly down over a weekend but never had such luck. Maybe one day. I mean call like Thursday and leave friday.

I had a couple of "wind chill" days (I'm a teacher in MI) this past week and seriously contemplated a spur of the moment trip, but every time I think about it, I think I'd rather save the money for the larger trip coming up after the school year is done...oh well I'll just have to keep saving :)

I've taken spur of the moment trips before but never to Disney. But if you're a disney expert you don't need to plan much anyway. Would be great to take a spur of the moment Disney trip like that though. I would check various travel sites, they often have sections dealing with last minute trip deals. Or just start calling hotels and seeing whats available. Georgia here too but i'm about 7 hours away, Don't know if i'd go for just a weekend, I need atleast 4 or 5 nights.

Go to SmarterTravel.com and have them send you weekly emails with last minutes deals from your nearest airport. I can usually get a round trip deal from Louisville to Orlando for $170. Thats nearly half off! Also alot of major airlines will send you last minute deals too.

Two years ago, over breakfast, we decided to go to WDW, came home, booked a flight and called to make the hotel reservation, and a mere two days later we were in Orlando. Our kids thought we were crazy too, we didn't take them, I think they were just mad! We had so much fun we extened our stay by two days.

We did last min trips to many places in the last 5 yrs. Actually even with the baby we planned a trip to Vegas and Grand Canyon at the last min.

We would do Disney this weekend, since Southwest had good airfare, but I had to be realistic and say there was no way, we have expenses to take care of first.

We decided on a Disney wedding and had it all booked the next day, got married 3 weeks later.

Have fun

Spur of the moment

I'd say go for it, if your finances allow for it. :) DFiance and DD9 and myself just got back from a fairly spur of the moment trip.. Decided to go from the 2nd - 5th, decided this around the 29th.. Had to stay off site, all the cheer/band competitions had the hotels booked solid, but the crowds were AWESOME! Walked on everything we wanted to go on.. In fact at the last minute, the day we checked out of Orlando vista, we decided to see if POFQ had any rooms, sure enough, they did. Got FL resident discounts ($117 after tax) 2 extra nights, and also decided to upgrade the 3 day play passes and some left over 1 day passes to Seasonal annual passes.. All in all, great times.. Some unplanned splurges though! :)

I do it all the time.

As a matter of fact, I just did it this week. I live about 1.5 hours away from Disney World and just booked a room for this weekend. I'm exactly 24 hours from arrival time. Sometimes your best bet is booking a day or two before you arrive because of last-minute cancellations. You may not get any discounted rooms though. I lucked out this week, I'm staying at French Quarter with the discounted room rate. I was shocked it was available since the Homebuilder's Convention is in town and they've booked up many of the Disney resorts.

That is so cool! My husband and I used to plan last minute trips like that to Niagara Falls (we're only 4 hours away) before the kids came. I miss the spontaneity of those trips. I say, go for it and have a great time! Lucky you!:p

Go for it!

Go get your Disney fix! It's good to get away and if the value resorts have a good rate then your in. The good thing is that those of us who are Disney nuts can go on a quick trip and have a great time flying by the seat of our pants. Have a great time. I an going for 4 days at the beginning of March and I am looking forwrd to it. Expdition Everest here I come! Love that ride.:sohappy:

This may or may not count, but here it goes:

In 2005, the wife thought it would be nice to do something other than Disney, so she wanted to go to Texas. So, we planned a trip to San Antonio, but since each day wasn't packed with a different theme park, we only planned a one weeker instead of a two weeker. Well, it was February, I think, and I was sitting there at my desk at work and thought "ya know what? I'd really like to do a long weekend in conjunction with the Memorial Day holiday, and get my WDW fix at EPCOT, and try that new Soarin' ride".

Like I said, that might not count, since it was a couple months in advance. But, since our previous vacations were planned a year or more in advance, I kind of considered it spur of the moment to just be sitting at work and decide that I wanted to plan a quick trip down there on Memorial Day weekend.
