Spur of the moment (literally)

Two weeks ago, I was in Georgia, visiting friends of mine from when I used to live down there. One friend (who I used to go to WDW with) and I were driving around, and we had to get on 95. We needed to go on 95 north, but as we got ready to get on, I said "north or south?" Both of us knew full well what "south" meant and where we would end up. It was VERY tempting to head into the southbound lane, and just "show up." Has anyone ever done a real spur of the moment trip like that?

Mine wasn't THAT spur of the moment, but 3 years ago we booked our trip 6 days ahead of time. I think it remains as my favorite trip to Disney to date. It makes it that much more exciting when it's last minute!

My spur of the moment was 30 days a head of time but for me (a type A who plans every second of her life) that was a spur of the moment.

When I was young in Disney, we were staying at Dixie Landings. All of a sudden we get a knock on the door at about 10 pm. We open the door and it was my Aunt, cousin, and a family friend! Apparently they were looking at their Disney pictures and they got "homesick". So they packed their bags and left within 2 hours and drove 28 hours (from maine) straight and surprized us!

Now THATS spontainious!

Last Sunday, we decided at 4:00 PM that we wanted a sandwich from the Earl. We were there by 5....of course, we were just visiting the aquarium in Tampa, and were on our way home to the Jax area......

A few years back, all of my mom's side of the family was down in Florida and my family were the only people staying home in New Jersey. My grandfather's birthday was in like 2-3 days at that time and my uncle had called my parents and convinced them to come down and surprise him for his birthday! After my mom told me the previous day that there was about a 1% chance that we were going to go. They took vacation time, just that we weren't going to Disney this time around, but that changed quickly :).

I was so excited, I didn't know what to do with myself so I just ran around the house like crazy after I packed.

I can't wait to go back. The last time I went was in May :(

MUST. GO. BACK!

lol :p

Spur of the moment for me was in 2005. My sister had a trip booked for a week at Pop with one of her friends. Her friend ended up backing out 2 weeks before the trip (why one would do such a thing, I have no clue???). So i had to go with my sister, I was so happy. I would call that spur of the moment for me.

about 8 or 9 yrs ago, i was cleaning out a closet in my parents house and stumbled across 5 hopper pass that each had 2 days on them. This is when pass where good until completely used. So me and my DW (gf at the time) called a travel agent on a thursday and made hotel and airline reservations to leave that saturday. It was her first time to the World. We have been back numerous times since and are taking ds and dd on 9-16.

not that spur of the moment but kinda. My boyfriend and i went to food and wine festival last year and really wanted to go again. We were out to dinner with my parents and we kind of just came to the conclusion to go to disney for the wood and wine festival in a 3 minute conversation. and that night we booked out hotel and plane reservations. thank god we did it that night bc the next day the airplane prices went up and then the next day the value resorts were sold out!

My wife and I pulled off a tag-long trip just this past February, and we decided it only about 6 weeks before the Mother and Sister in law left for WDW. The plan was we were to arrive on a Sunday, and my Father in Law would join up with us on Wednesday afternoon. We had DVC suites (1 bedroom, kitchen), but took along an inflatable mattress for when the Father in Law arrived.

The four of us were going to the PPP on the Monday evening, and all four of us had the best time for that day!! All four of us were laughing and having a good time like we were all 7 years old, and the youngest in our group was 18. We even coaxed our mother in law onto Goofy's Barnstormer, and she is scared of rollercoasters... so this was a big deal.

On the tuesday after relaxing (the girls had a spa day at Saratoga, and I hit the gym and relaxed by the pool) at Saratoga, we had a surprise arrive at the room, the Father in Law decided he didn't want to stay at home in the cold and work anymore, he decided to rearrange his plans and arrived a full day early. We had the best of times the rest of the trip, we still make jokes and recall this trip as one of the best ones to date!

A few years ago I read online (here) that Mission; Space was opening for Guests for "Test and Adjust" in the afternoons. I called friends that live in Orlando to see if their guest bedroom was available, then called my partner and asked if I could go, and then hit the road 4 hours later.

We did a spur trip back in college. We didn't have classes on Friday and we were all not feeling well due to the previous night's festivities. Someone mentioned that we could be at Disney in 12 hours if we drove all night...

Well, since we had no cash, and only a gas card, about eight of us jumped into a jeep and headed down I 95 from Wilson NC. We found some people we knew in the college program and got into the parks! This was great! We all called our parents on the way begging them to put money into our accounts so we could eat at the parks.

We had a blast. Drove all night, arrived at WDW around 9 on Friday morning. Hit all the parks, hung out with our friends Friday night... Drove back to NC on Saturday because we couldn't afford to eat at the parks a second day (remember we were in college and we drank around the world the day before).

Quality times... The smell from the back seat of the Jeep still lingers in my mind...

I shared a cab with two young women, and mentioned that I booked my flight and trip at 9PM the previous night... They had booked one o'clock that morning.

I like traveling at the last minute... You can check the weather. You can pick a good time to leave work, and don't have to worry about being sick (at least when you leave.)

We went to WDW 1/1-1/8/07. When I got back, my cousin called and said they were going on 1/25. I ended up going back with my kids and my sister. My DH just started a new job and couldn't go. It was a great month!!

It wasn't spur of the moment for me - but a coworker of mine 2 -3 weeks ago was talking to his daughters about going to the Mississippi Gulf Coast water park (2 hr drive ) that weekend when the other daughter said Typhoon Lagoon was the best water park anywhere . They called Disney on a Wednesday night and drove up the next day (10 hour drive)!!! He is THE MAN!!! :ROFLOL: :ROFLOL: :ROFLOL:

Yeah, when we had APs we would just get bored with life and drive to WDW for the day. I've driven the 2-1/2 hours to just hang in EPCOT for the afternoon, eat there, have some drinks and drive home.

:ROFLOL: :ROFLOL: Well, not specifically to drink and drive, lol.

The most spur of the moment I have gotten is booking my most recent trip 5 days before leaving. I would absoloutely LOVE to be able to pack up and go randomly, but living rather far away (near Toronto, Canada) and being a student/working part time it isn't so easy to be able to do that.

I took one today. Granted, I live less than 2 hours away but still ... haha.

I went to MGM (DHS). Was pleasantly surprised. Arrived around noon, and while it was busy, it wasn't packed at all. GMR boasted a 25 minute wait, TOT fluctuated from 40-20, Rock 'n Rollercoaster had a 30 minute wait. Star Tours had 20 minutes. It was NOON. I was pretty pleasantly surprised.

I got a great spot for the parade (took video of it, as it's going away next year). It was a pretty relaxing, fun day. I needed it, really.
