Spring 2015 Planning

My wife and I are considering a trip to see F&G for 2015. I have been down over 20 times but never during this time of year. The nice part is we are not limited to any specific time as we have no children, So two questions for the group:

1) Would you suggest March, April, or May?

2) Does Disney usually release any good specials for this time?

Thanks

We have been to F&G many times, in all 3 of those months. The answer to your first question depends on personal preferences. Would you rather go when the weather is cooler or warmer? Do you like plantings that are brand new or ones that have matured a little? Do you mind crowds (assuming you want to visit other parks besides Epcot) or do you prefer a little less busy?

Here is what we have learned ~
March: Temperatures range from jacket weather (highs in the mid 60s, cooler in the evenings) to low to mid 70s. Since all the flowers have recently been planted, they tend to be on the smaller side. Still pretty, but no "spreading" to fill in some of the gaps. March is busy crowd-wise, due to spring breaks (each week in March will be a college or school spring break from somewhere!) Good chance for rain.

April: PERFECT for seeing all the flowers and plants in their peak glory. Temperatures are warmer (high 60s to high 70s) though one year it was cold (daytime jackets) and one year very hot (but low humidity, so that helped.) Also good chance for rain. April is also a busy spring break month and since Easter falls on April 5, 2015 you will want to avoid the week prior and the week after at all costs, unless you love CROWDS (and did I mention CROWDS?)

May: Weather has always been mild and sunny, warm but low humidity. Less rain. Far fewer crowds because spring break season is over; however, there are several local school groups on field trips (they are chaperoned and tend to be well-behaved.) The downside is that all the flowers/plantings begin to look tired and overgrown. Still lovely, but not optimal.

As for your second question, Disney always runs specials of some sort but because March/April is spring break season the discounts are not as steep and the rack rates for rooms are higher. So those months will always be more expensive than May.

To answer some of the questions you posed. We would prefer minimal crowds - in the past we always targeted September and between Thanksgiving and Christmas. From a weather standpoint, we would like to be able to swim ( We are from New Hampshire so it is all relative) but would refer to avoid the oppressive heat and humidity.

Then my recommendation would be late April/early May :)

We went twice for lasts few days of April/first week of May.
Pros: F&G obviously, gorgeous weather, got good resort deals, never had a problem with getting ADRs
Cons: looooots of school groups, bands, trips, etc

Whatever you decide, enjoy!

Another vote for May! Most likely to have good resort deals, swimming weather, and lower crowds despite any field trips that may be happening.

Based on this information , we are thinking about last week of April till the first week in May but we are flixible in case any good deals are released.

Sorry for the super delay, I've been traveling! That sounds like a good plan. The earlier in May, the better IMO. Further into the month is when the school groups start showing up, coupled with Star Wars Weekends. End of April, the spring break crowds should be thinned out, and you'll still get to enjoy the lovely Flower & Garden Festival!

We just got back from a trip 4/24-4/27 and the reason we chose that was to go to the F&G. Two things to look into, it was still pretty high crowd levels left over from Easter I guess. So I'd check Easter timing and stay away from that. And there was a national (or international) dance competition at Epcot during that week and it was NUTS. Very crowded with lots of teens. I don' know if that's an annual thing at Epcot but I'd avoid that time. Also, it was HOT those few days we were in the parks (in the 90s both days) which is maybe a fluke but I'm from Texas and we know hot and humid just as well and it was brutal!
The festival itself was lovely! I think I prefer it to Food and Wine. Great food and drinks and much less crowds at the kiosks.

Today I just pushed back my plans for our next trip until April 19-25, 2015. We went in 2012 during this time and we both loved it. The F&G is wonderful and makes EPCOT look so much more alive and vibrant with the beautiful colors and flower blooms. I personally prefer April over May due to the weather, but we do not visit the water parks or the resort pools for that matter.
