I’m not a hard core comic book fan...but I’m about 50/50 on it.

I'm pretty sure I've never read an actual comic book before. I do enjoy the MCU, though.

I just think the show has done an incredible job going through the history of sitcoms -- that's why I loved the first episode so much; it completely captured the essence of a 1950s sitcom.

The underlying story of the show is pretty good, but it's basically standard MCU stuff. I wouldn't like it nearly as much if it didn't dive so heavily into that sitcom aspect.

What makes the MCU last so long, as I've said several times, despite cries of 'superhero fatigue' is that they're willing to utilize so many different genres: politcal intrigue; action adventure; war movie; heist movie; buddy cop movie; cosmic hippy trippy; Afrofuturism; TV sitcom tropes.

Upcoming titles include: coming of age; the anti-hero; alternate histories; martial arts; horror; comedy; and even a Holiday Special.

That may be why I didn't like Spiderman: Homecoming that much even though I regularly see it listed as one of the best MCU films (still haven't seen Far From Home since it's only available for streaming on Starz at the moment). It was fine, but it didn't really feel much different than earlier Spiderman films -- I think Raimi's Spiderman and Spiderman 2 were better.

The MCU could eventually run into that problem on wider scale when they start having to recycle genres (and having to move to lesser known heroes could be an issue as well, although they do have the Fantastic Four and the X-Men in their back pocket), but the fact that everything connects is a good way to keep people invested in all the films.

It's more likely it will falter whenever Kevin Feige leaves (he's only 47, but he may not want to do Marvel forever) because he will be tough to replace. They have to have someone in charge planning all the connections and making sure nothing contradicts anything else, among other things.

To add to this, they also surprise audiences instead of doing the predictable. Endgame could have been the big action movie to end all action movies, and they gave us a drama about the impact on society from the Thanos snap for a large chunk of the movie. Who would have thought the first third of the biggest comic book movie of all time would be a character drama, and we'd love it?

They're also very good at character development amongst all of the special effects and things blowing up. WandaVision isn't some random team up, it works because of the relationship between the characters.

This show is so much better than I was expecting.

Also, I guess I'm not surprised that some of the typical MCU audience didn't love the first couple of episodes but I thought they were brilliant. Episode 1 was just absolutely perfect.
Totally agree. I'm a huge sucker for the sitcom pastiche, and it only heightens the tension when that pastiche falters. As we move into the final two episodes, I expect we'll move into typical Marvel movie territory, but I'm really hoping some of the sitcom weirdness remains.

Whatever the case, they had me hooked from the opening theme song.

Not that I disagree with you...because I don’t...but I would venture that MCU has nonetheless reached its peak and will start to “come back to the pack” some. The rebuild will be more tough than the build. Just a hunch.

It will be interesting to see if feige sticks with marvel...or goes to another job?

The nice thing about The Munsters reference in the last episode is that it breaks the pattern of doing all of the sitcom stuff in chronological order. I get trying to cover all the decades, but doing anything post-2000 is inherently less interesting than the retro throwbacks IMO.

I would love it if they did Addams Family for either episode 8 or 9.

My guess is that the sitcom framing will be mostly gone for 8 and 9 and it will play out more regularly as everything comes to a conclusion, especially since the SWORD staff said last episode that they were no longer getting a broadcast.

I'd love to be wrong, though, since as I said the sitcom pastiche is probably my favorite thing about the show.

Has anyone seen this. Was reluctant to post it until now.

It shows what seems to be
Kathryn Hahn in her episode 7 Agatha costume in an old looking set. There are other witches there too, including a blonde who could very well be "Dottie" or whoever she truly is. I have long suspected that Dottie (also unidentified by Jimmy and Darcy) was around as long as Agatha. Just had to get confirmation that Agnes was Agatha first. Could be why Agnes doesn't seem to trust Dottie and why Dottie seemed to be able to see through Wanda. She's another who could have know what was going on all along.

Paul Bettany was hilarious in this and pairing him with Kat Dennings was magic
Yes, totally something we didn't know we needed. When the strong man was beating on the truck as they were driving away. And Vision yells sorry I can't hear you. Totally hilarious.
has the villain been hiding in plain sight or are there still surprises to come? I don't buy this was all just Agatha.
If I had to guess, and I really don't know a ton about Agatha, I don't see her really being THE villain. She was mainly an allie to the fantastic 4 and Wanda. So I could see her being manipulated by the real bad guy. And in the end she ends up helping Wanda when the true villain appears.
