Which I agree with.

In this case I just feel like they may have gone past homage to direct adaptation.

The original Death Star battle was lifted straight from warplane footage. However, they didn't make the X-Wings look exactly like modern airplanes. I don't watch that and immediately think, oh, this is just a WWII battle. It feels like a different world altogether.
Funny, because this is exactly what some had complaints with regarding Star Wars in the first place, ie its just straight lifted from other source material with very little changes, ie a direct adaptation. I suggest you go look up the French comic Valérian and Laureline and you can see almost shot for shot direct adaptations with very little changes ripped right from the pages.

So I go back to what I said, you're drawing a very very very fine line here, seemingly just for the sake of discussion.

I don’t think you’re being honest with yourself on this one, but more power to you.
Andor is one of the best series I've seen in years - the writing and acting are extraordinary. I sat on the edge of my seat every time Mon Mothma or Luthen danced on the edge of a political or spy sword. There were times I held my breath waiting for them to be caught. WRITING. ACTING. Being Star Wars is irrelevant to its quality (not its place in the universe lol).

I guaran-damn-tee you that NOTHING would put Skeleton Crew in that stratosphere. EVER. It's a generic kids show that pulls from about 90 things I've seen before. Seriously, what are you drinking lol and don't give me any of it! :D

As I said more power to you. We just watched different shows and it’s fine.

Different strokes and all, but my reaction to most of Andor was rolling my eyes constantly waiting for something to happen. It was so boring. If they would have condensed the story to maybe a third or half of the runtime, maybe it would have been enjoyable to watch but it was just such a slog.

As it is I'll probably watch the second season just for completeness but I'm not really looking forward to it all that much.

It's also worth noting that Andor's ratings really weren't all that great. It has a bit inflated "minutes watched" compared to other SW series as it had the most episodes and total runtime. The number of viewers per episode weren't even that much higher than Acolyte and far less than most other SW series.

I agree with you. I originally compared it to 70s Incredible Hulk show. Andor/Bruce Banner would walk some place. Nothing would happen for most of the show. Then the Hulk/action sequence would happen. The story would conclude and Andor/Bruce Banner would walk someplace else. Every time Mon Mothma came on the screen, the story would stop. It's hard to care about Andor since we know his fate getting nuked with a girl he only met a couple of days before.

If you take away the imperial logos and stormtroopers, it could have been any sci-fi show. The show was a slow burn without a satisfying ending. It was all setup for another season. Hopefully season two has some more meat to it.

Since we’re bringing up Andor: Hi, I’m a casual Star Wars fan, circa 1980s. Liked the original 3 as a kid. Couldn’t watch the prequels- terrible.

Hated the 2/3 of the sequel trilogy I watched; literally saw the second one with another casual watcher (both women) and we walked out in the casino scene due to boredom.

The mandalorian episodes I saw were a yawn- westerns aren’t my thing.

Liked Rogue One. LOVE Andor. It’s intelligent. I can’t believe this came out of star wars. If a man on a date told me he hated it, I’d know he wasn’t for me.

The direction of Falcon and Winter Soldier makes me not want to see this. Harrison Ford is not a draw anymore.

I’m confused as to whom they’re appealing to, as someone who goes for plot plus hot guy.

Hot guy = check
Plot = ?

Finally finished this. It had moments but was mostly disappointing. They continue to fail at creating new cool characters . I didn’t care about one character in this whole show. Same with Acolyte. That’s a problem

That's not an uncommon feeling to have with the show. It was a very well put together show. Well acted, well shot, well put together visuals. The only thing I think they struggled with is the pacing. Personally I didn't mind, but I 100% understand why many others didn't. If they mixed in the action so there weren't such intervals between, it would have really helped for a lot of people.
